Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 135: Chapter 135: I’m Quite Fond of You

Everything that could be said had been spoken; now, what direction would things take?

After all, she was the Third Princess of the Luoze Empire; she probably couldn’t swallow this affront easily.

Yang Yu wasn’t afraid of Latis making a move against him, as with her current strength, she still wasn’t capable of killing him instantly.

If Latis did strike, the one at fault would be her, and all he needed to do was not fight back, just... just shout back, and wait for the Library’s peacekeeping Mages to arrive, which would make things much easier.

The All Things Library was absolutely neutral, and Yang Yu trusted that, with his eloquent tongue and various witnesses at the scene, the Law Enforcers would undoubtedly discern right from wrong and make a fair and just decision.

Her chest heaving dramatically, Latis took deep breaths in and out, her facial expression gradually softening, and she slowly uttered three words,

”I’m sorry.”

Having heard Latis’s voice as faint as a mosquito’s, Yang Yu doubted his own ears,

”What did you say?”

Placing a hand over her chest, Latis took another deep breath, and with all seriousness, apologized to Yang Yu:

”I’m sorry! I apologize for taking out my anger on you just now. There was nothing wrong with your actions, and the words you used to admonish me were also appropriate. I apologize for my earlier rudeness to you.”

After saying these words, Latis pulled back her red dress slightly and formally bowed to Yang Yu, then, as though nothing had happened, faced Yang Yu with a calm expression.

The script had deviated from what he had imagined; Yang Yu had thought that Latis would be at a loss for words, either raging impotently or retreating in utter frustration, and subsequently targeting him relentlessly.

But instead, Latis had candidly admitted her mistake.

”Wait a second. Lady Latis, are you really not angry at all, don’t you want to do something to me?”

”Honestly, I’m super angry right now, I even wish I could hang you up and beat you, then roast you over charcoal.”

”You really have a way of saying incredibly terrifying things with the most placid face.”

”Takes one to know one. Standing up to the Royal Family without fear, saying what you did, you might just be the first.”

A smile slowly formed on her face, and Latis had not a trace of displeasure about her, even seeming utterly relaxed after letting it all go.

”So, you really don’t plan on doing anything? Like secretly investigating my identity and then sending a few assassins to discreetly finish me off?”

”Do I look like a woman with such a dark heart? Getting rid of you would give me temporary satisfaction. But after that? The risks I would have to bear for it, I don’t need to say, you can probably imagine, right?”

”It’s nothing more than tarnishing the honor and reputation of the Royal Family if exposed.”

”Exactly, those who defile our honor, we never let them off. The acts that stain our honor, we also never commit. To get angry and start killing in the restaurant after being pointed out for wrongdoing would undoubtedly be the most foolish choice.”

”So, after apologizing, you plan to just let me go?”

Yang Yu found it hard to believe, probing wildly on the brink of death,

”There are plenty of people watching here, if word of this gets out, you might end up losing face.”

Having said that, Yang Yu suddenly seemed to see the next words Latis was about to utter—those words that were mere opinions of vulgar people; an image of humbly accepting advice that would gradually permeate the masses.

”Those are just the views of vulgar people; an image of humbly accepting advice that could slowly sink into the public.”

Latis spoke indifferently, raising her fan in one swift motion and pointing it at Yang Yu, displaying her smile to full effect,

”I won’t say much else. I really like you! Come and be my subordinate!”

Originally, he had thought this scenario was the prelude to a bloody storm, but to his utter surprise, it turned out to be a case of the overbearing boss falling for me.

Yang Yu was speechless, having never anticipated such an outcome.

He had merely intended to give Latis a proper scolding, but unexpectedly, it had given her the kind of delusion often found in overbearing boss novels: ”Everyone else shows me nothing but respect, but only he dares to treat me this way. He’s different from those seductive cheap goods.”

”If you become my subordinate, you and your companions can have a stable life, plus there will be a good path for advancement. I believe with your capabilities, you would soon become the left and right arms of the Empire. Then, not only would you be free from worrying about food and clothing, but you would also be revered by thousands...”

Latis went on and on about the benefits of becoming her subordinate as if following her would lead to becoming a CEO and marrying into wealth and prosperity in mere minutes.

It was at this moment that Tico, who had been standing at the door, sprang into action and stepped into the dining room.

During the intense conflict between Yang Yu and Latis, she was at a loss, watching Latis at a disadvantage, wanting to stop Yang Yu, yet she found some sense in Yang Yu’s words, and if she spoke up for Latis, she didn’t know how it would affect her relationship with Yang Yu. Thus, she ultimately chose neutrality, letting events unfold as they would.

But now, seeing Latis blatantly trying to poach her fan, she could no longer hold back.

”Latis, you already have so many fans who like you, there’s no need to poach mine. It wasn’t easy for me to have one fan!”

Latis, with a smile, unfurled her fan, ”This isn’t poaching. I’m merely introducing him to a decent job. I’ve heard you say they’re adventurers, always doing dangerous work, and could die any day. You don’t want to end up like that, right?”

”Even though that is true, I have a feeling that if he follows you, some bad things will happen! What if you make him go to the battlefield...”

”What’s the big deal with that? If he’s willing, I’ll give him the opportunity. A true man should achieve great deeds. If he’s not willing, I won’t force him. Such a talented individual can shine anywhere else.”

The dining room instantly became noisy, and Yang Yu sighed helplessly. It was the first time girls were arguing over him, and while he was pleased, the nature of their dispute left him joyless.

Indeed, all women are cads; games are more fun.

Just as Yang Yu was about to find some excuse to decline, the long-absent electronic sound of the System rang in his ear.

[According to your knowledge, the Luo Ze Empire is currently at war with Wansheng Country, and internally there are two factions divided on whether to end this war. One faction, the Main War Faction, believes that Wansheng Country should be completely eradicated to make them pay a price; the other faction, the Republican Faction, believes that mutual understanding between the two nations is essential, and excessive demands would only lead to mutual destruction.

By a fortunate twist of fate, you have gained the favor of Latis and Chilom. Latis is a leading figure of the Main War Faction within the country, while Chilom is a steadfast member of the Republican Faction.

Now the Main War Faction’s Latis is extending an olive branch to you. What do you choose to do?

1. Accept Latis’s offer and support the Main War Faction.

2. Decline Latis’s offer and support Chilom.

3. What to choose? Go home for farming, ”No bamboo flute to disturb the ear, no official documents to weary the body.”

Time limit for selection: five minutes.]
