Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 105: Chapter 105: I Have Some Strange Ideas

[Hidden Task: [The Ancient Brave Lox]

Lox was the true hero who saved this world, leaving countless myths in his wake. Yet, his latter years were shrouded in mystery; it was as if he had vanished from the face of the earth.

By a twist of fate, you’ve come to the underground city created by Hero Lox and have obtained the key he left behind. Whether this is good fortune or disaster remains unclear.

Task Requirements: Find the underground city left by Hero Lox and attempt to conquer it.

Task Rewards: When all of Lox’s underground cities are conquered, only then can you obtain the reward.

Depending on the number of underground cities you conquer, you might receive the following rewards:

Experience ????, Gold Coin ????, lottery opportunities 0~99 times (all Epic or above), random Skills 0~10 (if conquest is over 50%, guaranteed Skill [Instant Kill - Breaking Sky Restart]), free attribute points +0~10000, Skill Points +0~1000).

Hidden Requirement: [The Lifetime of Lox] — Continuously collect fragments of information within the underground city to understand the life of this legendary hero.

Additional Reward: A choice significant enough to alter all worlds.

Task Progress: You have conquered Lox’s underground city (0/???).]

When Yang Yu touched the key, a new task with a gold frame studded with various gemstones, unlike anything he had seen before, popped up on his panel. The rewards left him agape; without a doubt, this was a super Legendary task.

Of course, such lavish rewards came with extremely high difficulty.

First and foremost was the issue of task settlement.

This task had a different completion condition than usual; it could only be settled after conquering all of Lox’s underground cities.

How many underground cities Lox actually had was a mystery. But one thing was certain: as long as even one maze remained unconquered, this task could not be settled.

Next came the difficulty of conquering the underground city itself.

Yang Yu glanced at another task on his list.

[Underground City Conquest Task: [Hall of Wisdom]

Task Requirements: Conquer the underground city and defeat the Guardian of the last floor.

Task Compensation: Experience 15000, Gold Coin 20000,[Enlightenment Orb], free attribute points +10, Skill Points +5]

Although this looked like a single task, it was actually equivalent to two.

If this underground city truly belonged to the legendary hero, then it was highly likely that the others also operated with one manager Guardian and one combat Guardian.

If what that cat said was true, to conquer the maze, you didn’t only need tremendous power to push forward level by level, but also keen judgment and intelligence to decipher the labyrinth’s patterns, meet its manager, and fulfill the manager’s challenges.

The level of the Bull-headed Monster on the third floor was already over Level 50. Progressing level by level, by the Eighth Floor, the monster’s levels were likely close to Hundred-level.

Wait, that’s not how it should be calculated.

Each person’s talent is different; a Hundred-level Civilian and a Hundred-level Elite Warrior are simply not on the same playing field. There are geniuses with talents as strong as Tico, and then there are super Civilians like myself, who gain only a few attribute points with each level up.

I can’t assume that just because I’m high level, I can arm-wrestle the monsters in the underground city.

Tsk tsk —

The more I think about it, the more daunting it seems.

Forget it, stop thinking.

Why worry about it? Now that I have the task, there’s nothing to lose by keeping it. Why should I care when it gets done? Who knows, it might mysteriously get completed one day.

Smiling, Yang Yu stored the key in the System, and suddenly some strange thoughts surfaced in his mind. Right now, the best underground city to conquer lay right before his eyes.

”Preparing Teleportation Magic, it needs some time. If you’d like to pick up the Equipment nearby, I can give you a moment.”

Handing over the key to Yang Yu, Scarjade began to weave new Magic. Now that someone had answered the question, Scarjade no longer needed the bait of the Bull-headed Monster on the third level’s central layer. The Equipment could be freely given away.

Or rather, giving it away would reduce Scarjade’s burden, as maintaining those weapons was a thankless task.

However, Yang Yu shook his head, ”We can leave the Equipment, we can even give the key back, but in exchange, I have a request.”

Scarjade narrowed his eyes.

Most adventurers who conquered underground cities did so in hopes of instant riches with Equipment or clues to unlock greater treasures. Now Yang Yu had both, yet he was willing to give them all up.

”What request? Let’s hear it.”

Yang Yu smiled faintly, ”I’m willing to give up all of this for the chance to battle the Boss of this underground city.”

”Interesting, very interesting,” Scarjade flicked his tail, kicking up dust in the Darkness. ”But, as I said before, if you want to challenge another Guardian of this underground city, you’ll need to start from the third level, methodically working your way up.”

”Frankly, that’s too much hassle. Besides, I’m self-aware enough to know it’d likely take us two days just to defeat a Bull-headed Monster, not to mention reaching the Ninth Floor — who knows how long that would take? I don’t have that kind of free time.”

Besides, my Level will soon reach its limit, and grinding any further would be a waste.

”Do you think you can defeat that Guardian?”

Scarjade stared at Yang Yu as if eyeing prey, yet Yang Yu stood undaunted by Scarjade’s piercing gaze.

”Didn’t you say it earlier? The Guardian of the underground city grows stronger with stronger opponents... Conversely, it weakens against weaker foes. We are weak, but not as weak as we appear. We’re the most likely to defeat it.”

”Clever logic. But...”

Scarjade was about to refuse Yang Yu when he was interrupted by Yang Yu’s retort.

”I already know who the creator of this underground city is. If I’m correct, can you please open this back door for me?”

What!

Scarjade almost doubted his ears.

They had only stepped into the third and fourth levels, where relevant hints were on the Eighth and Ninth Floors. How could he be so certain?

Could he be bluffing? Yet from what he had shown so far, he didn’t seem to be.

”Heh. Kid, you’re still shooting the breeze without a script. I’m telling you, you’re playing with fire. You know the consequences if you’re wrong, don’t you?”

”Might as well be food for your teeth. I’m already betting my life here. Just tell me, do you agree to the deal or not? Or are you afraid we will really conquer this maze?”

”How could I be? The underground city exists solely to be conquered.”

Scarjade’s gaze intensified,

”I admire courageous people! I commend your courage! Since you’re so brave, I’ll give you a bonus question. If you can answer it correctly, I’ll grant you a pass that goes directly to the Ninth Floor!

Answer me! Who exactly created this underground city?”

Full of confidence, Yang Yu faced Scarjade with a smile and gave the answer.
