Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: New Discoveries

In RPGs, when frailty is mentioned, most players would hardly ever associate weak characters with being powerful.

Weak characters either possess extremely strong attributes or have a very fluctuating subplot, or if nothing else, they have some unique skill.

However, they are also burdened by their weak attribute, or are extremely fragile, or have certain limitations on the number of action rounds.

They seem powerful at first glance, but actually, they keep jumping back and forth around the passing line.

The causes of frailty in these characters vary, some from innate physical weakness, others from curses, and yet others from unknown diseases.

If the frail state of these characters is ignored, in the best case, they will follow the protagonist to the end and die young; in the not-so-great case, they will die young in the middle of the game; and in the worst case, they appear for a few turns and then die young.

To transform these strugglers on the verge of passing into powerful characters, the only solution is to relieve their frail state.

The methods to relieve the frail state differ among characters.

Some require seeking out extremely difficult-to-find herbal medicine; some involve consulting legendary doctors; and some just need a hot spring soak with the male protagonist...

A bit more unusual. They aren’t actually weak, just not awakened.

Yang Yu still remembered playing a game...

In the game was a lovably frail young girl, the kind that’s soft, delicate, and easy to push over. She accompanied the protagonist all the way to the final boss.

After the protagonist struggled tremendously and defeated the boss, the girl started coughing violently.

Just when Yang Yu thought this was a tragic ending where the protagonist beats the boss at the exchange of a teammate’s life, the frail girl suddenly burst into wild laughter, ”You finally defeated him; now I can finally rid myself of this broken body due to the seal, showing my true form.” Then with a ”snap”, that likable frail girl transformed into a humanoid Gundam, becoming the ultimate boss.

The ”snap” was also the sound of Yang Yu’s dreams shattering.

That incredible twist almost made Yang Yu want to send blades to the game developers.

At that time, Yang Yu’s main team included that frail girl, who had a high level. When she turned into the ultimate boss, she almost instantly defeated Yang Yu’s nurtured main team, which is why he still remembered the girl turning into a humanoid Gundam.

The elimination of Bai Jin’s frail condition at least spared Yang Yu the worry of similar incidents happening again.

Since antibiotics could cure Bai Jin, it meant that Bai Jin’s frailty was neither caused by her own body constitution nor by a curse but was due to some disease.

Yang Yu wasn’t surprised that antibiotics could cure Bai Jin’s condition.

Before antibiotics were invented, in a battle, most soldiers would die from wound infections, and humanity was helpless against many diseases.

After the invention of antibiotics, these issues were addressed one by one.

The technological level of this world is hard to describe in a word, and in medicine, most still rely on potions prepared from herbal medicine, the limitations of which are apparent.

Thus, if afflicted by certain bacterial or viral diseases, one could either silently pray for the body to produce antibodies or just wait to die.

Yang Yu wasn’t a doctor and didn’t know what disease Bai Jin had exactly, but after weighing the options, he chose to use antibiotics.

Having hope is definitely better than just waiting to die.

As it turned out, Yang Yu’s idea was right; the antibiotics completely killed the pathogens.

[System Notice: A little change has occurred in your relationship with Bai Jin. Now, you can see more information about her in the team interface.”]

Suddenly, such a message popped up on the system. Yang Yu casually flipped to the team interface, clicked on Bai Jin’s avatar and saw much more detailed information—birthday, age, height, weight, measurements...

The one thing that impressed Yang Yu was the free attribute points section; Bai Jin could now allocate points just like He Meng.

There were 190 free attribute points available. Opening the details of the free attribute points, it showed their origins.

Just like with He Meng, gaining five points per level-up, from level one to thirty-seven, accounted for one hundred eighty points, and ten points came from strategizing the underground city.

Looking at He Meng’s interface, He Meng also had an additional ten points.

Yang Yu muttered to himself, ”Just as I thought, the rewards for exploring the underground city are distributed per head.”

This underground city venture provided Yang Yu with plenty of crucial information and also pointed out a steady method to keep getting stronger.

If there was any question left, it was what exactly changed between Bai Jin and him and how he could make Iyas undergo a change like Bai Jin too.

After some thought, Yang Yu came to a conclusion. Excluding the possibility of romance, the most likely relationship was trust.

As for how to develop a trust relationship with Iyas, he estimated that rescuing her brother could turn their relationship into one of trust.

...

Bai Jin’s illness had healed, but she was still very weak.

Yang Yu decided to stay in this small town for a few more days to conveniently make up for the little Experience Value he lacked using Iyas.

During this period, there were no significant disturbances, and Yang Yu successfully advanced to Level 40.

After several days of recuperation, Bai Jin’s Intelligence skyrocketed to over six hundred, and Yang Yu conveniently used the Enlightenment Orb he had obtained from conquering the underground city.

That tool was also new to Yang Yu, and upon use, it could randomly grant a character 0~100 points in Intelligence. Yang Yu was pleased to roll a 4.

Now, Bai Jin’s attributes were as follows:

[Bai Jin Level: LV37 Experience Value: 2155/12000

Yang Yu allocated the one hundred ninety free attribute points under Bai Jin’s command to Speed and Endurance.

The impact of Endurance on HP, MP, and Physical Strength varied from person to person; in the case of a Magician, it generally added more to MP than to HP. More than one thousand MP and two hundred fifty Physical Strength were already sufficient for Bai Jin to cast several large spells.

As for Iyas’s current attributes, Yang Yu truly wished she would quickly shift to being a healer; otherwise, her high Intelligence and talent would be wasted.
