The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 539: Chapter 539: Trying to Intimidate Nathalie, Thinking She’s Young_1

After she finished speaking, her phone rang. Glancing at it, she saw a message from Alfred Garland, asking if she had finished dinner and where she was.

He then sent her a location near McKinney’s No. 1 Middle School, indicating he was nearby.

Nathalie Quinlan could tell that Amadeus Yancey was probably with him. She pursed her lips and picked up her phone, casually sending a lighthearted message in reply.

[NQ: Something came up. Wait for me five minutes.]

After sending the message, she tucked her phone into her bag and then picked up the single-shoulder bag from the sofa, looking indifferently at Myles Sullivan.

”Uncle Sullivan, you should think about it yourself.”

Myles Sullivan sat on the sofa, worn out from a night of running around; the faint blue stubble on his jaw made him look quite haggard.

Seeing that Nathalie wanted to leave, he leaned back, letting his hand hanging loose at his side from where it lay on the table, his eyes dark and faintly menacing.

”Nathalie, you might not fully understand the situation in Beijing.”

”Beijing has always been split among three parties: the Tanzil Family, the Yancey Family, and the Wilmar Family. Even the Sullivan Family has to give way to these three. Among them, the Yancey Family is the leader, followed by the Wilmar Family, and the Tanzil Family is even weaker in comparison. Starting from their old patriarch, the Wilmar Family built their empire and continued to develop to the present, having connections in various industries. The complexity of what they’re involved in is beyond what you can imagine. With Jecksen Wilmar as part of this generation, he is one of only two male heirs, which means he is very likely to inherit the Wilmar Family.”

Nathalie was not interested in these matters; the power dynamics of the Illegal Zone were more her usual focus. She wasn’t very involved with Beijing’s affairs.

Her dark eyes narrowed as she stood casually, her posture relaxed but exuding a bit of a gangster vibe. She looked at the man speaking to her, barely patient, and asked, ”So what?”

Myles Sullivan must have a reason for telling her all of this; it wasn’t likely he was just talking without purpose.

Surprised by her calm demeanor, Myles pressed his lips together, finding it difficult to approach this composed Nathalie.

”Nathalie, what I’m trying to say is that things aren’t as simple as you think. You believe you’re fighting for a friend’s right and wrong, but you might be stirring up a hornet’s nest. The Zachmann Family has your back, so you’ll be fine, but do you think the Wilmar Family will let Freddy Cagwin off the hook?”

His tone remained gentle as he spoke, but the content of his words was far from soothing.

”His father is still hospitalized, and his mother has to set up a stall on the street every day. Their family’s situation is already prone to accidents. For instance, one day his mother might get hit by a car because she didn’t notice it while crossing the street. Or maybe his father will be given the wrong medicine by a flustered nurse... These are all possible scenarios.”

He didn’t want to go this far with Nathalie and certainly wasn’t serious about doing these things. He mentioned them only to intimidate her, given her young age, hoping to retrieve the document about Jecksen Wilmar from her.

His voice was gentle and unhurried, like an elder advising a rebellious youngster, coaxing, ”I know you have some information regarding Jecksen Wilmar. But having heard about the Wilmar Family’s background just now, do you think, with that kind of power behind them, even if you hold some leverage over Jecksen, you could really pursue a legal route?”

”Would anyone in McKinney dare to take your case and go through the legal system with you?”

As he spoke, he became more relaxed, reclining comfortably, his tiger’s eyes unblinkingly fixed on the girl standing there, her eyes half-closed, clearly provoked by his words.
