The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 536: Chapter 536: How about a compensation of one million?_1

She was willing to come out for a simple reason, Nathalie Quinlan had been kind to her before, and by all accounts, she considered him an elder of sorts.

She was willing to give Myles Sullivan some ”face”.

But as for Jecksen Wilmar’s issue...

Nathalie raised her eyebrows, and said succinctly, ”Uncle Sullivan, you got it wrong. He doesn’t need to apologize to me; he doesn’t owe me anything. The one he should apologize to is someone else.”

”...”

Before coming over, Myles Sullivan had called Raymond Wilmar for clarification on what exactly Mr. Amadeus from the Yancey Family had shown her the night before.

Now, hearing Nathalie’s words, he felt an immense headache coming on.

He certainly knew who Nathalie was referring to.

Freddy Cagwin!

A boy with no background, whose family was poor and had rural parents that came to the city of McKinney to make a living—an existence as inconsequential as an ant. In the past, he might not have even noticed someone like that, yet now, he was forced to confront the matter head-on.

Myles Sullivan’s expression tightened as he mused before speaking, ”Nathalie, I understand what you’re saying. You mean to say that Jecksen should apologize to Freddy Cagwin. I’ve asked him about it. He did indeed send people to threaten Freddy, hoping to get him to sign something, but he didn’t know they would physically attack anyone, and he certainly didn’t expect things to escalate to this extent...”

Nathalie didn’t make a sound, her expression seemingly indifferent as she lounged on the sofa, her gaze holding a mocking amusement as she waited for him to continue.

With the status Myles Sullivan had today, he rarely needed to adopt such a humble tone with anyone, but now he had to repeatedly lower his stance, saying softly, ”Nathalie, you’ve already retaliated on Freddy’s behalf, and now he’s lying in a hospital bed, realizing his fault. As for this matter, can we not blow it out of proportion, and perhaps... settle it amicably?”

Nathalie waited for him to finish before placing her hand on the table, idly touching the edge of the glass cup, her gaze scattered as she posed a question to him, ”Uncle Sullivan, if, just for the sake of argument, Freddy were your son, would you still say the same to me, suggesting we just let it go?”

This inquiry stopped Myles Sullivan in his tracks.

Because the answer was self-evident!

He could not simply let it go!

Seeing his reaction, Nathalie continued nonchalantly, ”Jecksen is lying in a hospital bed, but Freddy has been beaten as well, and because of this affair, he might not be able to attend college. You should be familiar with his family’s situation. They are not well off; his father has Been a long-term hospital resident, and his mother makes ends meet by running a street stall outside, with the entire family relying on him attending college to change their lives...”

Myles Sullivan didn’t care about these things and was very impatient upon hearing them. Similar to Ivy Wilmar, he never took Freddy seriously and immediately retorted, ”This matter... is an oversight on my part. Let’s do this, Nathalie, I’ll compensate his family with a sum of money, one million. What do you think?”

One million?

To ordinary people, it is indeed a substantial sum of money, and for a family like Freddy’s, it could take them perhaps ten years to earn that amount.

But she had plenty of money. If Aunt Cagwin was willing to accept such money, Nathalie would have long since made sure Aunt Cagwin no longer needed to run a stall. Aunt Cagwin had never been willing to accept her money, which is why Nathalie could only find other ways to help, such as securing a private hospital room for Uncle Cagwin, indirectly reducing the monthly hospital and medical expenses they needed to pay, to as little as a third, or even less. Of course, she had done all this without the Cagwin family’s knowledge.

Hence, upon hearing Myles Sullivan’s tone of offering charity and thinking to settle the situation with money, Nathalie couldn’t help but want to laugh, yet her gaze was ice-cold.
