The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 484: Chapter 484: Worrying About Whether She Got into University at This Time_1

After exchanging a few polite words, he led Nathalie Quinlan toward the inside of the police station, explaining the situation he had gathered on his way over as they walked.

What he said was almost identical to what Jeff Quinlan’s contact, Mr. Vinson, had mentioned before—Freddy Cagwin’s situation was quite thorny. To clear Freddy’s name, they would need to recall everyone who was at Sky Bar that night and conduct an investigation. However, this involved scions of prominent families from McKinney, and most importantly, some individuals from Beijing.

Nathalie Quinlan’s trip to Beijing was solely for the examination, and she had only stayed there for a brief week, so she was not particularly familiar with the power dynamics of Beijing.

Thus, when she heard the name Jecksen Wilmar, it didn’t leave much of an impression; she just thought it was a coincidence that he shared a last name with Lowie Wilmar.

With Simon Cadwell there, it was much more convenient for her to meet people.

After Simon Cadwell made a phone call, she was allowed in.

Before seeing him in person, Nathalie Quinlan wasn’t very worried about Freddy Cagwin’s situation. On the way, she received a text message from Aunt Cagwin and guessed that Aunt Cagwin had already visited the police station. She assumed that, at worst, Freddy had been detained for a couple of days, looking a bit rough and not well-rested.

But upon seeing him in the flesh, Nathalie Quinlan’s pupils suddenly narrowed sharply, her face color darkened abruptly, and she walked over, ”Who did this?”

Her voice sounded very heavy. Though it wasn’t loud, it resembled an enraged wolf, her gaze for the first time so fierce and hostile.

Freddy Cagwin’s face was bruised and swollen, his left eye so puffed up that only a slit remained, and his mouth corners were split, clearly having been beaten up.

Seeing Nathalie arrive, he opened his mouth, both astonished and disheveled, and subconsciously turned his head away, attempting to hide his face from Nathalie.

”No, nobody. Nathalie, why are you here? Aren’t you taking exams in Beijing?”

Nathalie’s face, rarely showing displeasure, spoke calmly, ”Justin Wafford mentioned that you hadn’t been to school for two days in a row. I couldn’t get through to you on the phone call, so I came back.”

At this, Freddy turned his head back to her, his emotions a bit agitated, his gaze locked onto her firmly, ”Then what... what about your exam?”

Everyone in their class thought that Nathalie couldn’t make it, but he didn’t believe so.

He believed that Nathalie could get into Tsinghua University.

Nathalie didn’t know whether to laugh or to scold him for still worrying about whether she got into Tsinghua University at a time like this.

But, seeing his forehead vein popping and his hands tightly grasping the handcuffs, something surged in Nathalie’s heart, and she pressed her lips together, saying, ”I got in, the Chinese Medicine program.”

”Phew...” Freddy, clutching the handcuffs, let out a sigh of relief, overwhelmed with emotion, he collapsed into the chair, his face color turning pallid and green, ”It’s good that you got in, good that you did.”

If Nathalie had missed her exam because she came back for his sake, he would never forgive himself for the rest of his life!

Hearing that Nathalie had successfully got into Tsinghua University, his heart felt both bitter and sour, with an indescribable flavor. Enduring the pain from his bruised and swollen face, he managed to squeeze out a smile and said, ”Congratulations, Nathalie, on getting into the program you wanted.”

The second half of the sentiment he held back, weighing on him like a stone.

Looking at the beautiful girl before him, Freddy felt like there was an unbridgeable gap between them, one he could never cross. He had once fantasized about getting into a university and rising above his current station, but now...

His spirits sank as he remembered what had happened just a few hours earlier.

Nathalie, not swayed by his attempt at a congenial congratulation, saw that he wanted to shift the topic. With her hands in her pockets and a decidedly stern look in her eyes, she asked just one question, ”Who beat you up like this?”

”Just drop it,” Freddy did not want her to get involved and refused to say more, turning his head away and refusing even to look at her.
