The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 465: Chapter 465: Hasn’t Freddy Cagwin gone back yet?_1

”No need, I’ll just make a call to cancel.”

Amadeus Yancey wasn’t lacking this bit of money, besides, he was one of the several shareholders of Imperial Hotel; the hotel was just a project he and his friends had invested in for fun when he was twenty.

What he cared about more was Nathalie Quinlan.

The face that spelled trouble was sharply contoured, and the shadow of Nathalie Quinlan was reflected in his black and deep eyes, which, despite their lazy appearance, gave off an illusion of extreme gentleness.

”Are you sure you don’t want Alfred Garland to accompany you?”

Justin Wafford, who had been quietly blending into the background, felt like he knew the truth upon hearing that seductive final note!

Previously in class, there had been bets on whether Mr. Yancey was Nathalie’s boyfriend, Jhovany Sullivan betting he was, Freddy Cagwin betting he wasn’t; Justin was unsure and hadn’t placed a bet.

Once he got back, he was determined to bet all his possessions on Mr. Yancey being Nathalie’s boyfriend.

Definitely!

Otherwise, he really couldn’t understand why a man who drove a Hongqi would be so doting and tolerant of a high school senior girl. It couldn’t just be because Nathalie was good-looking, could it?!

He didn’t realize that he had unintentionally grasped the truth.

Nathalie hadn’t noticed his burning gaze of gossip beside her; she was already used to this mode of interaction with Amadeus Yancey. After thinking it over, she still had the same attitude, ”Really, it’s not necessary.”

”Alright,” Amadeus Yancey didn’t make it difficult for her, pursed his lips, and said, ”Then later, let Alfred Garland take you to the airport.”

This time, Nathalie didn’t refuse and murmured an ’okay’ with a heavy heart.

McKinney Municipal Hospital.

In October, the autumnal hues were rich, and the leaves of the ginkgo trees planted in the hospital had all turned yellow. A breeze blew, and a large number of ginkgo leaves fluttered down, like dancing butterflies layering the ground with a golden carpet of autumn.

The 6th floor of the South Garden inpatient ward housed regular hospital rooms.

Each room accommodated 3-4 patients, yet one room stood out as a peculiar existence that everyone tacitly acknowledged.

Inside room 6003.

Aunt Cagwin entered in a daze; having not slept well the entire night because Freddy hadn’t come home. Her already sallow complexion looked worse, pronounced by the heavy, dark circles under her eyelids. She saw her husband lying on the hospital bed looking listless and, suppressing her anxiety and panic, steadied herself and walked over, twisting open the lunchbox she had brought.

Forcing a smile at the man lying on the bed, she said, ”Old Chen, time for dinner. I’ve stewed some chicken soup for you—have a few more sips later. There’s also chicken meat; I made sure it’s tender. You should eat a bit more.”

The man on the sickbed appeared to be just over fifty, but his hair was mostly grey at the temples. He was very thin, his gaunt face showing prominent cheekbones, and his eyes were filled with weariness and bloodshot from chronic illness.

It was only early autumn in October, yet he was covered with a thick cotton quilt. The white blanket draped over his chest seemed to symbolize the heavy burden of life, weighing the man down.

”Look at you, your eyes are full of bloodshot again. Didn’t you sleep?” Aunt Cagwin first placed the lunchbox on the bedside table next to the sickbed, then she helped him sit up, using pillows to support his back so he could lean against the headboard.

She had clearly done this motion often; despite being a woman, she was adept at propping up a grown man to sit, all the while chattering. ”The doctor told you to rest more—hey! If you don’t follow the doctor’s advice, Nathalie will worry about you again.”

Uncle Cagwin, supported by her to sit up and leaning against the bed, could not hide his fatigue as he asked her, ”Has Freddy not come back yet?”
