The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 466: Chapter 466: Did you make a phone call to Nathalie?_1

Aunt Cagwin’s motion of pouring chicken soup paused, ”Not yet.”

Not wanting her long-sick husband to worry too much, she feigned ease and said, ”He’s probably out playing somewhere again, he’ll come home when he’s had enough fun on his own.”

As she spoke, she focused on pouring the chicken soup into a bowl and brought it over, ”Don’t worry about him, taking care of your own health is most important! He’s a grown man, and a boy at that, could he really be kidnapped? Come on, have some soup.”

Uncle Cagwin gazed at her deeply, took the bowl from her hands, didn’t drink, and instead placed the bowl full of chicken soup back on the table.

”Ever since Nathalie found him and brought him back, he hasn’t skipped class for no reason. I think this time he’s determined to go to university, there’s no reason he would go back to hanging out with that crowd and mingling in society.”

His face, marked with deep lines, appeared sorrowful, yet his brows and eyes were relaxed, showing that he had a relatively optimistic mindset. Otherwise, a middle-aged man like him would never be able to endure something as devastating as paralysis.

”Have you looked for him in the places he usually goes to?”

Aunt Cagwin felt a pang of distress, turned her face away, originally not wanting to worry her husband with this matter, but she couldn’t bear it on her own. Her voice was very low, ”I’ve looked, he’s nowhere to be found. I made a phone call to the school, Mr. Sullivan also said he didn’t go to class. I...”

Even her husband saw that Freddy had figured things out, holding back a strong desire to get into a good university and stand out. How could she not see it? But with her child suddenly missing, his phone switched off, and no sign of him at school, she’d rather believe Freddy had gone off to mix with the young people in society than dare to think deeper.

She was afraid that if she thought too much and hadn’t found the person, she’d collapse first.

She was the only healthy person in the household who could search for the child. If she collapsed, what would happen to Freddy?

Aunt Cagwin’s eyes involuntarily reddened. Her husband had been ill for many years, and she rarely had red eyes, but now she was so distressed she couldn’t help it. She also feared her husband would see, so she quickly raised her hand to wipe her eyes and forced a bitter smile, ”Look at me, a grown person still getting eyes irritated by the wind. The wind outside is strong, let me close the window for you.”

With that, for fear Uncle Cagwin would notice her distraught face, she walked quickly to the window and while closing it took the chance to compose herself.

She thought she had covered it up seamlessly, but how could a husband of many years, lying in a sickbed, fail to see her anxiety and restlessness?

Her heart suddenly sank...

By the time Aunt Cagwin had closed the window and come back, he pursed his lips, his gaze cloudy yet bright as he watched her, ”Have you called Nathalie?”

He knew his wife well, hardworking, kind, and down-to-earth, but not very strong psychologically, prone to panic when confronted with situations.

They had troubled Nathalie quite often these past few years.

Aunt Cagwin stayed silent, her hand unconsciously gripping the spoon, stirring the chicken soup in the bowl, clearly showing her concern for Freddy’s safety, even lacking the mood to speak.

He sighed, ”Nathalie is young, just in her senior year of high school, at a critical moment for university entrance exams. We can’t always trouble her. If you tell her about Freddy’s situation, aside from worrying with us, what else could she do?”

”I know, I just...” Aunt Cagwin began hurriedly, then her voice trailed off into silence again.

She just couldn’t find a mainstay, didn’t know who to turn to, and had unconsciously made the phone call to Nathalie, aware that Nathalie was not in McKinney, she regretted her impulsive action.

Uncle Cagwin sighed, the wrinkles on his brow even deeper, his cracked lips pursed, his face revealing a frustrated expression. He beat his leg forcefully, ”In the end, it’s all my fault, I’m to blame, useless, making you suffer!”
