The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 476: Chapter 476: Gifted a Siheyuan (Quadrangle)_1

”Must be thinking of someone.”

Alfred Garland was playing a mobile game on the side, engrossed in the very popular PUBG game, which Edric Yancey also enjoyed playing. Sometimes, he would join Edric in the game. Today, with Edric absent, he played alone to pass the time. In a critical moment of the game, he answered Caryn Zachmann without lifting his head.

Seeing him engrossed in the game, Caryn’s delicate eyebrows knitted slightly, and her eyes, like pools of autumn water, paid more attention to the words he had unintentionally uttered.

”Thinking of whom?”

”Of course, it’s...” Alfred almost blurted out ’of course it’s Ms. Quinlan’, but as the words were about to escape his lips, he turned back to sanity and saw the expectant look in Caryn’s eyes. Realizing his slip, he quickly corrected himself, saying, ”Eh... I don’t know anything about Amadeus’s affairs, I was just saying. Miss Caryn, you shouldn’t take my words to heart.”

If he hadn’t deflected like that, Caryn might not have thought about a woman, but hearing his intentional change of subject to appease her, her heart couldn’t help sinking...

She had always been someone who could keep her composure, otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to secure her footing in this circle with Audrick’s connections. She pursed her lips and said nothing.

Alfred, afraid she would guess, initiated a topic, asking her, ”Miss Caryn, didn’t you have something that couldn’t bring you here today? How come you managed to find the time to come after all?”

The first phone call from Sadam Vinson’s group didn’t mention that Amadeus Yancey was coming, only the second call did.

Caryn Zachmann had initially said she had family matters and couldn’t make it, but here she was again, prompting Alfred to casually bring up the topic.

Bringing up this matter, Caryn was quite annoyed. Resting her hand on the counter, a mocking expression appeared on her striking face as she said coldly, ”Because someone stood me up.”

”Er, who?” Alfred just asked casually, mainly to prevent her from pressing him about Amadeus’s concerns.

Little did he know that Caryn actually answered him. Holding a cup with her manicured hand, she spoke with haughty impatience, ”A cousin. You probably haven’t seen her, came to Beijing for an exam, and then stood up the family at the last minute.”

Previously at the Waterfront Pavilion, only Amadeus and Audrick were present, and Alfred was not there, so Caryn figured that Alfred probably hadn’t met Nathalie Quinlan.

Little did she know, as soon as she mentioned the keywords cousin, coming for an exam, and standing people up, Alfred’s mind almost instantly recognized whom she was talking about.

She was definitely talking about Ms. Quinlan!

Alfred’s eyes flickered slightly, his curiosity prompting him to ask, ”Then... Mr. Zachmann wasn’t upset?”

Caryn had always thought that he didn’t know Nathalie, so she felt it didn’t matter what she said to him, and spoke casually, ”My grandfather has nearly spoiled her rotten. Besides, whenever she brings some trinket or another to appease him, Mr. Zachmann is deliriously happy.”

”Last time she brought an unlabeled product, something like pills, for Mr. Zachmann to eat, and he was very pleased with it. This time, after she stood him up, she sent over another bottle of those unlabeled health supplements and reminded Mr. Zachmann to remember to take them. My grandfather was so delighted.”

She spoke with disdain, completely unaware that Alfred was internally on the verge of exclaiming.

Shit!!! A whole bottle!!

He wanted to know how many pills were inside.

He remembered previously seeing a transparent glass bottle in Nathalie’s backpack, quite filled, and he had estimated then that there were at least 20 pills.

The young lady mentioned at lunch that the price of Small Pills had spiked in the black market, and 500W could no longer buy them. The one she acquired through connections was approaching an eight-figure price, that is to say... by simply sending a delivery, Ms. Quinlan had given Mr. Zachmann ’an entire quadrangle house in Beijing’.
