The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 483: Chapter 483: He’s Quite Good at Climbing Social Ladders_1

”Ah, yes.” Nathalie Quinlan had actually not slept much on the airplane during the three-hour flight; she had been playing on her phone, but without a signal, she played puzzle games to pass the time and now felt somewhat exhausted.

She half-closed her eyes, not fully understanding what the driver was continuously muttering upfront, only responding politely from time to time while leaning back in her seat to rest.

Just then, her phone beside her lit up. She picked up the phone and was surprised to see a text message from Aunt Cagwin who hadn’t replied to her for most of the day.

Nathalie Quinlan rolled down the car window, letting in the breeze that helped to clear her head. She propped her elbow up, supporting the phone in one hand as she tapped to open it.

Aunt Cagwin had sent her a rather long message, which basically said ’Freddy Cagwin is fine, they have found him already. He went out to play with some dubious friends and didn’t realize his phone was dead until it turned off. She told her not to worry, and definitely not to rush back to McKinney. She should just enjoy herself.’

At the end, there was also a note about Freddy Cagwin being disobedient this time, so they decided to let him reflect at home for a while, which meant he probably wouldn’t be going to school for some time.

Nathalie Quinlan’s moist fingertips lightly tapped on the phone, her face betraying no particular expression, quite calm.

If it weren’t for the call she had just received from Silvania Ingram, telling her that Freddy Cagwin was found at the police station, she would have believed at least most of this text message, if not completely. If she had seen it earlier, she might not have hurried back from Beijing...

Unfortunately, she already knew that Aunt Cagwin’s message was purely to pacify her, to keep her out of trouble...

...

The airport was near Almeda Street, and half an hour later, Nathalie Quinlan arrived at the Almeda Street police station.

As soon as she got out of the car,

someone in front of her called out to her in surprise, ”Ms. Quinlan, are you the person Mr. Ingram mentioned?”

Nathalie Quinlan scanned the QR code to pay the fare, closed the car door behind her, and turned around only to see a familiar face. She raised her eyebrows, a bit surprised, her voice was slightly hoarse as she greeted the person, ”Mr. Cadwell.”

Simon Cadwell had experienced her connections before, not just with Pinecone Group and those in Beijing, but also with that person from the Yancey Family. He could hardly stand being called ’Mr. Cadwell’ by her, and when Nathalie Quinlan addressed him, he immediately waved his hands humbly, smiling, ”Don’t, just call me Simon Cadwell.”

He was a vice director, and while his position may not have seemed high, he had real power in his hands. In McKinney, he was a person whom everyone gave some respect. Those around him were stunned by how deferential and humble he was towards a high school girl, each of them looking at Nathalie Quinlan with astonishment, as if they wished they could see flowers bloom from her gaze.

The confusion in their eyes was extreme.

This was a high school girl, after all. Besides being pretty, there didn’t seem to be anything special. Why did Mr. Cadwell act this way toward her?

What background did this girl come from?

However, Nathalie Quinlan was not affected by his courteous demeanor, casually saying, ”I’d still prefer to call you Mr. Cadwell, you’re older than me, and it wouldn’t be proper according to seniority for me to call you by your first name.”

Simon Cadwell jumped at the chance, immediately responding with eagerness, his typically serious face breaking into a smile, ”Haha, Miss. If you insist on seniority, I happen to be about the same age as your uncle, so you can call me Uncle Cadwell.”

”...” Nathalie Quinlan raised her eyebrows, noncommittal.

Simon Cadwell was also aware of the immeasurable power she had behind her. He wanted to latch onto a higher authority, not genuinely insisting on Nathalie Quinlan recognizing him as an uncle.
