The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Mrs. Fisher Looks Down on Ghania Quinlan_1

”She’s nothing but poor and plain, her biological parents are just bumpkins from the hills. In the end, if there is compensation to be paid, won’t it still fall on your family to clean up her mess?”

Ghania Quinlan pursed her lips and looked at Zayn Fisher’s face.

Jane Bailey continued, ”Besides, you already made a phone call and asked Zayn to come over, and he’s called acquaintances at City Hospital. Without her, who knows, that child might have been saved long ago!”

Yes, Ghania recalled how she had been scolded by that nosy old man a moment ago, and it made her heart uncomfortable.

Zayn Fisher had also lost face, and Jane Bailey’s words had restored some of his dignity. He looked coldly at Nathalie Quinlan from afar, and then turned back to speak gently to Ghania, ”Let’s go, my mom and your uncle and aunt are here too, waiting outside.”

Ghania had already noticed the hurried arrival of Jeff Quinlan and others; the two esteemed guests from the Tucker Family had already left, leaving only Jeff Quinlan, Emilia Sullivan, and Zayn’s mother, the three of them.

Seeing Mrs. Fisher, Ghania quickly put on a facade of being sweet and well-behaved, calling out cheerfully to the approaching figure, ”Aunt Lidya.”

After addressing Mrs. Fisher, she then greeted her own parents, ”Dad, Mom.”

Jane Bailey and another girl who came with her usually followed her around like lackeys. They came from average homes, and upon facing a prominent figure like Jeff Quinlan who occasionally made it into McKinney’s financial news, they lost their previous bravado of talking behind Nathalie Quinlan’s back and shrank back timidly, their faces full of flattering smiles.

Jeff Quinlan did not look at the two girls. He strode over, first checked on Ghania, then looked towards Zayn Fisher, smiling and patting Zayn’s arm, ”I heard Ghania wasn’t feeling well, lucky to have you by her side.”

To his girlfriend’s father, Zayn Fisher was polite, ”Uncle, Ghania is my girlfriend. Taking care of her is a duty of mine.”

”You’re a good kid. I’m at ease with Ghania in your care!”

”You’re too polite, Uncle.”

”Good, good, we are all family here, I won’t stand on ceremony with you.” Jeff Quinlan was like a father-in-law more pleased with his son-in-law the more he looked at him.

Mrs. Fisher, however, wore a neutral expression, only glancing at her son with what seemed like a reproachful look, but she did not speak out.

After all, the Fisher Family was one of McKinney’s four great families. Even if not considered among the top-tier wealthy clans, in McKinney, their heritage was different from that of newly risen nobility like the Quinlan Family!

The ideal daughter-in-law she envisioned definitely had to be someone from an equal social standing, ideally from a renowned family.

Ghania Quinlan might not have met the social status criteria, but compared to Nathalie Quinlan, whom Zayn had dated before – a fake rich girl and a true bumpkin – Ghania seemed more acceptable in her eyes, if not quite suitable!

Anyway, Zayn was not yet of age to marry. She had no objection to him dating a girl he liked, but when it came to marriage, she would have plenty of time to talk it over with her son.

Jeff Quinlan chatted with Zayn for another few moments. Seeing that Ghania was tired, Emilia Sullivan said to her husband, ”Alright, let’s discuss this at home. Ghania has class tomorrow!”

Jeff Quinlan laughed heartily, patted his head, and said sheepishly, ”Look at me, I got all distracted by Zayn. Let’s go, we better head back.”

No sooner had he finished speaking, he caught a glimpse of Nathalie Quinlan in a corner, and his brow furrowed sharply!

He said to the group, ”You all go ahead, I’ll be out in a moment.”

Mrs. Fisher had not noticed Nathalie and was already impatient with the smell of hospital disinfectant. Without concerning herself with why Jeff suddenly decided not to leave, she warmly said to Emilia, ”Mrs. Quinlan, shall we?”

Emilia, hoping for her daughter to marry into a wealthy family, wouldn’t dream of not giving ’face’. She happily linked arms with her and led the group out.
