The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The First Vest Falls_1

He saw Nathalie had already put the medicine away and wasn’t harping on that topic, so he warned her anxiously, ”Try to take as little of this medicine as possible. Take one only if you really can’t sleep at night, but try not to use it if it’s not necessary.”

”Alright.”

Nathalie wasn’t taking this medicine for the first time; she knew the score and promptly agreed.

Securing her belongings, she picked up her single shoulder bag and tossed the medicine in, ready to leave.

Lowie Wilmar, seeing her about to go, stopped her and asked, ”Where are you heading?”

”Back home,” Nathalie replied casually as she gathered her things.

Lowie Wilmar immediately frowned, ”What home do you have? Didn’t the Quinlan family kick you out?”

He remembered the phone call he had put through to Nathalie and immediately stared at her, ”Are you talking about going back to live with your biological parents?”

Nathalie disliked being too close to men, and involuntarily took a step back, admitting in a nonchalant manner, ”Mm.”

Lowie Wilmar naturally noticed her slight step back, a sign of her discomfort, and his eyes darkened with a helpless and sullen feeling, but he tried to ignore it, adopting a philosophy of ’out of sight, out of mind’: ”You just hung up on a few of my phone calls and you’re having dinner with relatives from your biological parents’ side? You met them, what kind of people are they?”

Recalling the past, Nathalie spoke slowly, ”I can’t say for sure without more interaction. I only saw my biological father, and it seems my biological mother has already passed away. I’m not sure of the specifics yet, but I will find out. As for the rest... my grandfather has been very good to me.”

”Grandfather...” Lowie Wilmar knew that she hadn’t acknowledged her biological parents, but she had accepted this grandfather.

Lowie Wilmar felt disheartened, and asked seriously, ”Do you really plan to stay and look into your origins?”

Nathalie didn’t understand why he kept asking the same question, but she was patient with him and nodded, ”Mm. Leaves fall back to their roots; I at least need to know who I am, and where I come from.”

Her reason was irrefutable!

Even if Lowie Wilmar wanted to take her away, he swallowed his pride, furrowed his brows and asked, ”So what’s next, will you go back to Hillwood County with your biological father?”

Nathalie: ”They are from McKinney.”

Lowie Wilmar looked puzzled and said, ”People from McKinney? I thought your biological father was from Hillwood County?”

Nathalie couldn’t clarify it either, ”I’m not sure of the details. Jeff Quinlan told me they were from Hillwood County, but it seems they are not.”

”What’s your biological father’s surname?”

Nathalie tried to recall but couldn’t, rubbed the bridge of her nose, disliking this interrogative type of conversation, ”... His surname is Jiang.”

”Jiang?”

In McKinney, there was a prominent family with the surname Jiang that had deep roots in the area; their older generation even had connections with the Yancey family in Beijing.

Lowie Wilmar looked deeply towards Nathalie’s direction, putting away his speculations.

Nathalie’s biological father was likely not related to that family.

By this time, Nathalie had finished packing up her things and threw a bottle of pills from her backpack to him.

Lowie Wilmar caught it suddenly.

Nathalie, taking her time putting on her single shoulder bag, said softly, ”This month’s medicine.”

Three years ago, on the Black Market in C Country, a Small Pill began circulating that was said to regulate the body’s foundation, with an Effect alleged to rival the longevity peaches from the classic ’Journey to the West’, supposedly capable of prolonging life and refreshing the spirit.

As soon as this medicine appeared on the Black Market, every major Power wanted it for themselves. Only three pills were Auctioned each month, and each auction caused no small commotion.

”Three pills again?” Lowie Wilmar cautiously inspected the Small Pills in the vial, which looked indistinguishable from jelly beans.

But a Single Pill could fetch a sky-high price on the Black Market!
