Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 791: Chapter 235 Behavior

Bai Quan’s thoughts were already incredibly clear.

He now fully understood that his previous notion that victory on the battlefield would garner support could only be applied on the battlefield.

Now that he was walking in the political arena, he had to change his mindset.

But even if he could send part of the fleet and the soldiers on it to perform virtually suicidal tasks for victory,

he couldn’t stoop to colluding with scum like Zuo Jing out of revenge, even now.

However, even without resorting to such despicable means, he could still achieve certain things.

Combining his thinking with Chen Ming’s approach, when facing external threats and accusations, he definitely needed to prioritize securing himself, which meant securing his own interests.

His interests were his basic foundation.

The Fourteenth Legion Branch, his confidants, and Chen Ming.

The Fourteenth Legion Branch was his most fundamental base; there’s no doubt about that.

However, what was important for this foundation is the framework, not any specific person within it, so Bai Quan did not need to worry about this framework being destroyed, nor did he need to worry about internal turmoil within the framework.

And his confidants were people who had followed the old superior all the way, or were those he himself cultivated during his journey from Major General to Vice Admiral; these were people he could trust implicitly, so there was no need for excessive concerns.

Only Chen Ming was different.

The relationship between Chen Ming and him had not reached a deep familiarity, and up until now, Chen Ming had not shown a clear stance.

Therefore, he had to pacify Chen Ming’s emotions as a priority.

Not only because of their relationship but also because Chen Ming was someone he needed to rely on to some extent.

Even just by sitting in the branch, Chen Ming had already helped him considerably, let alone the fact that Chen Ming was actually working.

Thus, he needed to provide Chen Ming with sufficient explanation, keeping him stable.

Stabilize the basic foundation, and it doesn’t matter how tumultuous the rest becomes.

Any disturbance that doesn’t affect the foundation can be easily extinguished.

Just like the counterattacks he previously attempted.

As long as the foundation on the other side isn’t affected, any measure is completely meaningless.

So from now on, he had to change the way he did things.

At this moment, the resentment in Bai Quan’s heart had completely dissipated; he had ample time to think calmly.

Bai Quan knew there were many targeting him.

Trying to identify each one and retaliate would be an immensely challenging task.

So he didn’t need to care who exactly was targeting him and Chen Ming, nor did he need to care about who did it.

All he had to do was the simplest thing: shift the blame for the recent incident elsewhere.

Find someone to pin the blame on.

If it landed on the real culprit, great, but even if it fell on someone else, it didn’t matter.

Because the upcoming urgency wouldn’t be his, the victim’s.

Moreover, having already captured the Zuo Jing operative, it was really just a matter of a single directive to extract information from them.

As a Vice Admiral, he didn’t even need to personally spell it out, nor did he need to issue formal orders as in the military; merely expressing an inclination would naturally lead someone beneath him to say everything needed.

And his confidants would certainly accomplish the tasks he wanted to see fulfilled.

Coincidentally, he had just had a clash with Lou Wei’s side, which hadn’t even started verifying Chen Ming’s spiritual energy.

So soon, there would be rumors spreading within the Fourteenth Legion.

Due to the high cost of the two Industrial Colonies, and Lou Wei’s fear that Chen Ming hadn’t actually cheated, he was willing to engage with Zuo Jing to deploy this cargo ship pilot to disrupt the dome, wasting Chen Ming’s time.

They even planned to use Mechanical Race samples to destroy the research institute, kill researchers, not only wasting time on repetitive research but also delaying the actual testing schedule.

The information extracted from the captured Zuo Jing operative corroborated these details.

Bai Quan had already envisioned the subsequent developments in his mind.

Since someone wanted to implicate him with Zuo Jing’s affairs, he would throw away this blame that no one dared to shoulder.

This was something he absolutely wouldn’t have done before.

Because previously, he would have first dealt with the nauseating Zuo Jing and then traced back through the pilot.

In the end, although he would certainly uncover something, he wouldn’t harm the main enemy in the slightest.

But now, the matter was not yet over, and the internal investigation hadn’t ceased.

Now was when the event’s heat was at its peak.

The betting agreement after the simulated battle had already spread throughout the Fourteenth Legion in just a few hours.

The combined heat of the two events would indeed be the most sensational and attention-grabbing issue of recent times.

No one dared to associate themselves with Zuo Jing under the scrutiny of the entire legion at this time.

And after a while, this news would also spread outside the Fourteenth Legion.

Bai Quan didn’t even need to actively disseminate the news because somebody was bound to do so.

The Fourteenth Legion was no longer as it was when it had just been reorganized; internal factional conflicts would definitely lead factions with conflicts against Lou Wei’s faction to spread this kind of news.
