Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 779: Chapter 232 DP-2

A few minutes later.

In the cafeteria of the simulation equipment dome.

Chen Ming was having breakfast, pondering over what had just happened, while casually chatting with Bai Quan, who was tapping something on the terminal beside him.

The simulation battle was over. Once he dealt with the matters left over from the simulation, it would be about time to get to his actual work.

There were still a lot of things related to the research institute and the Mechanical Race that needed to be gradually taken care of.

However, just as he was distracted, thinking about whether Lou Wei would do something disgusting on the industrial colony.

Bai Quan suddenly stopped his hand that was moving over the terminal, looked up at Chen Ming, and asked, ”What’s on your mind?”

”What do you mean?”

”I mean the data you obtained in the simulation and stuff.”

Chen Ming gave Bai Quan a curious glance, not bothering to hide anything, and said, ”They’re all pretty good, they’re things I really need right now, but unfortunately I only remembered part of it, the rest I didn’t get the chance.”

”Actually, there’s still a chance; in a month, you can start another simulation that requires deep consciousness immersion.”

”Oh?”

Bai Quan’s intent was a bit clear, it seemed he knew exactly what Chen Ming needed the most right now.

So naturally, Chen Ming wouldn’t refuse Bai Quan’s kindness.

However, there was one thing Chen Ming needed to clarify: ”So the only limitation for deep consciousness immersion is just the one-month time limit?”

Previously, Cheng Xinghai only mentioned this point and didn’t elaborate more on other details about deep consciousness immersion, so Chen Ming felt it was better to ask now.

But Bai Quan didn’t have much more to say, after thinking over Chen Ming’s question he said, ”Basically, it’s just this restriction. If there are other restrictions... it would be best not to use any drugs or equipment that may accelerate thought speed before entering deep consciousness immersion.”

”Um...”

Chen Ming immediately thought of the various devices he acquired from Dusk, which Dusk also acquired from another civilization, that amplify Spiritual Power and Spiritual Energy. These seem to fall under the restrictions Bai Quan mentioned.

Moreover, Chen Ming has the passive thought speed acceleration from the Hive Mind Network.

Other equipment can be stopped before participating in simulation battles, but the Hive Mind Network cannot be disconnected.

Chen Ming quickly asked, ”What consequences could arise from using these things?”

”It’s said that it increases the likelihood of addiction, making it easier to get addicted to thought acceleration, somewhat similar to nicotine or internet addiction.”

”But the consequences are more severe because long-term deep consciousness immersion can result in the brain not being able to rest for a long time, leading to major problems, so if you can’t control this feeling, then the one-month restriction won’t solve the problem, and in serious cases, a forced detox may be needed.”

”But those involved with this merely suspect an increased probability of addiction, it’s not 100% confirmed, but generally it’s better to avoid using if possible.”

”Oh, I see.”

That’s a relief; Chen Ming believes his willpower is quite strong.

As long as it’s not akin to various stimulants causing irreversible physiological effects, Chen Ming can overcome psychological issues on his own.

If it’s just similar to nicotine or internet addiction, then it’s not a big deal.

Besides, he had already finished one simulation without any issues, so there shouldn’t be a problem.

If worse comes to worse, he can be a little more cautious during the next simulation. If any unexpected situation arises, he’ll just disconnect from the dummy body.

And if the next simulation also doesn’t present any particular condition, then it’s pretty much confirmed that even with the additional thought speed support, there won’t be any problems.

Chen Ming felt slightly relieved, suddenly realizing Bai Quan seemed to have mentioned something special earlier: ”You mentioned knowing a lot about equipment for accelerating thought speed, but drugs for accelerating thought speed?”

”Drugs are much more common than equipment.”

Bai Quan said while directly taking out a small bottle of medicine from his pocket and placing it on the table.

”Like this, it’s what I was talking about, a drug that accelerates thought speed.”

”There once was a Psychic pharmacologist who proposed the concept of thought acceleration drugs based on the Empire’s acquired thought-accelerating equipment from that civilization.”

”Following this idea, he began his research starting from military stimulants closest to his intended effects, and this research led to developing research-use stimulants for various researchers, which later extended to stimulants used in some clerical jobs.”

Chen Ming picked up the small transparent bottle and looked at the white pills inside, curious to ask, ”And its side effects?”

”You eat more daily.”

Chen Ming glanced at Bai Quan’s breakfast, indeed it was much more than what he had.

But right now, what he was comparing was his dummy body. His actual body’s food consumption per meal was much more than what Bai Quan was eating now.

Indeed, this was an inevitable situation caused by thought acceleration leading to increased Energy consumption by the body.

Chen Ming nodded slightly, but saw Bai Quan stopping his conversation.

”That’s it? Nothing else?”

”Yeah, that’s it. The one I use should count as the latest developed stimulant for clerical use.”

”Compared to military drugs, research-use, and this clerical-use stimulant are inherently gentler.”

”Plus, since these drugs act on the nerves and brain, they can’t possibly be very potent, so naturally the side effects are smaller.”
