Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 771: Chapter 230: Missing Evidence

Although Chen Ming said he was researching the Synchronous Accelerator Core, in reality, he had only interacted with it once.

This artifact from another civilization was undoubtedly a device with Spiritual Energy, and Chen Ming discovered that the Synchronous Accelerator Core also seemed to involve some microscopic components.

The simulator wasn’t particularly effective at simulating Spiritual Energy and microscopic elements, so Chen Ming wouldn’t waste time on it.

However, Chen Ming did manage to get hold of the Synchronous Accelerator Core and conducted some simple experiments, even recording data.

Overall, there didn’t seem to be any issues.

So, Chen Ming continued to question Lou Wei, who had no idea how to deal with the situation, ”I ask you, how exactly is this matter going to be solved?”

”This...”

Lou Wei truly hadn’t expected Chen Ming to spend time researching topics in the simulation that he had barely heard of.

As a mentor to Di Jia and a fleet commander, Lou Wei was more familiar with simulations in the context of combat.

He wasn’t a professional researcher and couldn’t comprehend Chen Ming’s research reports. All he knew was that Chen Ming was always in the lab with Cheng Xinghai.

Moreover, since it was only a simulation, in his mind, even if Chen Ming was conducting research, it wouldn’t be on anything important.

Who knew Chen Ming would be so earnest about this in the simulation?

As a result, he had no idea how to respond to Chen Ming’s questioning.

Seeing this, Chen Ming realized even more that Lou Wei had little understanding of research.

He immediately leaned forward on the conference table, towards Lou Wei, looking as if he were about to devour him, and said, ”I’m not just researching the Synchronous Accelerator Core in the simulation. I have other research going on. How do you plan to compensate for those?”

”Let me put it this way, I have a research institute, and I was in charge of everything in the institute, pushing all the research tasks forward. My research is exactly what the institute is working on.”

”By doing what you’re doing now, you’re practically pulling the plug on my research institute, even pulling out the backup power, causing all the institute’s data to be lost. How will you compensate for that?”

Next to Hong Guanghong’s mentor at the conference table, a captain leaned slightly towards Hong Guanghong’s mentor and whispered, ”Chen Ming already has a research institute here with us? Indeed, Vice Admiral Bai knows you have to sacrifice to gain.”

”But how do we determine the severity of damage to the research institute’s work?”

Hong Guanghong’s mentor also whispered, ”Chen Ming just mentioned that his is a small-scale research institute, so the main thing to consider is the importance of the ongoing tasks.”

”In principle, it can’t be judged just by his word, but since Lou Wei directly pulled the power, losing all the data, and if Chen Ming had ample reason to be conducting these studies in the simulation, then it’s hard to say.”

”Got it. It looks like Lou Wei is in for some trouble.”

While people in the meeting room were discussing privately, Lou Wei still couldn’t find the words after a long pause.

Chen Ming simply showed some signs of impatience, knocking loudly on the table while urging Lou Wei, ”Speak, hurry up.”

Lou Wei’s face flushed a bit, and the high simulation precision of the simulator made his body’s changes clearly visible in the simulation.

Everyone saw his embarrassment.

Chen Ming was about to put more pressure on Lou Wei when a notification suddenly appeared in the corner of his vision.

Cheng Xinghai sent him a request for a private chat.

Chen Ming immediately chose to accept.

And Cheng Xinghai’s voice then echoed in his ears, ”Hey hey, can you hear me?”

Chen Ming didn’t speak, shifting his gaze from Lou Wei to a corner of the meeting room.

Like him, Cheng Xinghai was exited to the meeting room when the simulation was forcibly stopped, and she now sat on a vacant chair by the wall of the meeting room.

Though Cheng Xinghai’s mouth didn’t move, her voice still reached his ears.

Chen Ming instantly understood the situation and mentally noted, ”I can hear you.”

”Not bad, it’s your first time using this function, and you didn’t say your inner thoughts out loud.”

After speaking, Cheng Xinghai gazed at Chen Ming for a moment, seemingly contemplating something.

It wasn’t until Chen Ming was about to ask why she contacted him privately that Cheng Xinghai finally said, ”I have something to tell you.”

”What is it?”

”While you were arguing just now, I asked a friend of Uncle Bai’s, who works in the department responsible for simulator maintenance.”

”He said that while the simulator is running, it has scheduled backup files.”

”Even though such a large-scale simulation, requiring deep consciousness immersion, results in only one backup file due to the large data computation required, and it’s incomplete due to the forced stop rather than normal shutdown, with some repair, it should be salvageable.”

”I know you’ve been working on those things for a long time, and losing them would certainly be difficult for you; this should be good news, right?”

Chen Ming was quite surprised to hear this unexpected good news from Cheng Xinghai.

Although the data, only found in deep simulation, might not be fully salvageable even with repair.

At least he could save a significant portion of his research data.
