Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 317: Chapter 123 A Bad Choice_3

This is also the reason why Zhang Feng is here now, loyally continuing to accompany the Crown Prince in his studies.

Zhang Feng knows that although he and Tang Shi’s superiors do not have the means to directly intervene within the Fourteenth Legion, infiltrating a small detachment split from the Fourteenth Legion is not difficult.

Especially since this detachment has not yet established itself and even needs to form a United Fleet with other forces, the difficulty of intervening becomes even lower.

So much so that Zhang Feng now even suspects that the accident encountered by Bai Quan was premeditated.

Otherwise, under normal circumstances, this unit of the Fourteenth Legion could not possibly conceal this news so efficiently while thoroughly suppressing all opposing voices.

However, just knowing about this matter poses a significant threat to his personal safety.

Thus, Zhang Feng only speculates and keeps these speculations tightly sealed in his heart, not mentioning them to anyone.

At the same time, he continues to assist this Major General, whose actual ability is utterly inadequate, barely holding onto his qualifications, relying on years of accumulated experience and the forces behind him.

Zhang Feng quickly organized the emergency situation on the battlefront, seeing that the battle was no longer as urgent as just before.

He finally had time to discuss other matters with Tang Shi.

Things that his superiors had just explained to him.

In the command room, there was a separated space between the commander and the others present.

So Zhang Feng was not worried that what he was about to say would be exposed and directly spoke to Tang Shi: ”Commander Tang, I need to discuss our future plan arrangements with you.”

”Arrangements? Aren’t we going to rescue Chen Ming?”

”No, our goal is not to rescue Chen Ming, because his survival does us no good and even less for our superiors.”

”His presence is the reason we lost our rightful share of Sky Steel.”

”Is that so?”

Zhang Feng nodded and continued, ”So the mission to rescue Chen Ming is just for show; we definitely can’t really save him.”

”And now, time has almost run out, and it’s too late to rescue Chen Ming.”

”Why do you say that?”

Zhang Feng explained patiently, ”Because our original plan was to launch a surprise attack on the planet ahead, sending ground troops to rescue Chen Ming based on his coordinates before Dusk could react.”

”But now, the battlefront has entered the phase of a direct confrontation, and it’s impossible for us to break through in a short amount of time, nor can ground landing forces bypass such a battlefront to land directly.”

”This gives Dusk the time to take action on Chen Ming, whether to transfer him or something else; in any case, Dusk will no longer give us a chance to save him.”

”So far, the mission to rescue Chen Ming has already failed.”

”Our purpose now is solely to attract Dusk’s attention, continue delaying time to look for opportunities, prepare for a warp jump, and mount a surprise attack on Kleitka.”

”That’s the key, that’s the accomplishment.”

Zhang Feng hesitated for a moment before speaking the final words: ”Your accomplishment.”

Tang Shi, with some hesitation on his face, said, ”But I see the coordinate signal sent by Chen Ming on the colony; he shouldn’t have been transferred yet.”

”And I’m not sure I can command well. To be honest, I really don’t want to...”

Zhang Feng suddenly interrupted him by patting his shoulder, his expression serious, and solemnly said, ”You are assuming a critical duty under dire circumstances, and many people expect you to achieve this accomplishment.”

”Moreover, I will assist you, just go ahead and do it.”

”...Alright.”

Tang Shi reluctantly responded, while Zhang Feng took over the command of the fleet.

He began to command the entire United Fleet over the commander’s communication channel, in the role of a nominal deputy.

At that moment, the captains of several main ships on the battlefield were all within the communication channel.

They tacitly accepted the fact that Zhang Feng had replaced Tang Shi’s command.

Or rather, it was precisely because of Tang Shi’s presence that they defaulted to this situation.

The captains of a few ships held not low positions, and they all knew that the entire process of the incident seemed quite inexplicable.

But since Bai Quan was arranged so clearly, apart from immediately notifying the Legion in private and waiting for the Legion to respond, they dared not take any further actions.

As for the captain of the Exemplar Level battleship dispatched by Speed Particle Technology, he did not have such concerns.

After all, if he perished here, the Fourteenth Legion would have to provide an explanation to the Speed Particle Technology Company.

And the Fourteenth Legion would inevitably look for trouble with Tang Shi, who entered the Fourteenth Legion through normal channels, yet gradually advanced through external special means.

But for him, given the circumstances, abandoning ship would mean all previous investments would go to waste.

Activating the sunk cost of the main ship is no small affair.

And although the Major General who took over Bai Quan’s task was considered useless, his deputy was different.

Despite being relatively unknown, the deputy’s command capability managed to gain the reluctant acceptance of all faction representatives in the United Conference within a short time, offering hope for task completion.

Otherwise, no loss of larger investments compares to the loss of a main ship, and they would have fled long ago.

Of course, this task refers to the mission concerning Kleitka, not the task pertaining to Chen Ming.

From the beginning of the United Conference, the interests within the task had already been distributed among different factions.
