Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 310: Chapter 122: Broken Connection, Sudden Change

After the factory director listened to what Old Wu, who had rushed into his office, had to say.

He directly took out the terminal and dialed a communication code.

Once the call was connected, he didn’t greet the other party but instead said, ”Put me through to the Chairman.”

There was a pause on the other end before the voice of Xu Lin, Chairman of Sinda Corporation, came through: ”Xiao Lu.”

”I want to know what the company’s position is now?”

The Chairman understood exactly what the director was asking and why Chen Ming was raising such a question.

He didn’t hold back and said, ”The company now needs to disengage from the situation with Chen Ming.”

”Why?”

”Because there’s no longer any benefit in Chen Ming.”

Both the director and Old Wu beside him frowned deeply.

Before the director could voice further doubts, the Chairman continued, ”Initially, there was indeed value in Chen Ming worth our investment, and that value continued to grow.”

”However, ever since Chen Ming was moved to a new location, we’ve lost the ability to rescue him independently.”

”Yet the Fourteenth Legion can.”

”So as long as we want to save Chen Ming, we can’t bypass the Fourteenth Legion; they won’t give up on Chen Ming.”

”Even if he’s rescued, we won’t be able to obtain Chen Ming’s intrinsic value.”

”Therefore.”

The Chairman slightly extended his tone, giving the director time to think.

”In the board meeting, we decided to exchange Chen Ming for more stable gains.”

”Sky Steel, and some other preferential advantages.”

”Not long ago, we managed to secure the priority bid from the Star Realm Government’s patrol fleet through our connection with Chen Ming.”

”Now, the Fourteenth Legion can help us obtain the annual priority bidding rights with the Star Realm Military.”

”Together, these provide significant benefits to the company.”

”While also fully extracting any remaining value from Chen Ming.”

”With no value, we have no reason to continue investing resources in Chen Ming.”

At this moment, the Chairman suddenly changed his stance and said, ”Of course, I don’t think that way.”

”I believe continuing to invest some resources in Chen Ming and maintaining a good relationship with him isn’t a bad thing.”

”But what I say doesn’t count; my single dissenting vote is useless. The company’s stance depends on the outcome of the full board vote.”

”In summary.”

”The company’s stance is to minimize contact to prevent Chen Ming’s capability from affecting the company’s future profits.”

The director understood how the company’s upper echelon operated, and there was nothing he could argue against the Chairman’s statements; it was already a fait accompli.

However, there was still something he needed to clarify: ”What’s the current situation with the military? Xiao Ming just asked, saying they couldn’t reach the Fourteenth Legion.”

”Regarding this.”

The Chairman recalled and said, ”The Fourteenth Legion has entered a state of closed management a few days ago, suspending regular communication and the flow of personnel and resources to the outside.”

”Even we have no means to proactively contact them now.”

”The fleets sent previously can only be stationed there, waiting for the Fourteenth Legion’s notice to begin action.”

”The Fourteenth Legion is the overall commander; we can’t compare to their military training and can only take orders from them.”

The director asked with some confusion, ”What should we do when the time comes?”

The Chairman immediately replied, ”Just one thing, help the Fourteenth Legion draw attention; the rest is none of our concern.”

”When will they act?”

”That depends on the Fourteenth Legion.”

”Inform me before they take action.”

”Notify Chen Ming, right?”

”Hmm.”

”Depends on the situation; if fighting breaks out suddenly, the message might not be relayed in time.”

The director remained silent, tacitly agreeing with the Chairman’s words.

The director fell into silence, while the Chairman suddenly dropped the formal tone and spoke to the director like an ordinary person, ”Xiao Lu, when are you coming back home, your mom misses you quite a bit.”

”I’ve said many times, that’s not—”

The director suddenly sighed and began chatting about daily matters with the Chairman.

Meanwhile, Old Wu quietly left the office.

Chen Ming didn’t wait long before receiving a response from Old Wu.

Old Wu first recounted the conversation between the director and the chairman to Chen Ming.

Then, based on his own understanding, he added, ”I think the closed management is actually normal.”

”After all, rescuing you involves going deep into Dusk’s home turf, and any problem at any stage could result in massive losses.”

”Furthermore, you know there are more than just a few forces at the United Conference who have designs on you.”

”Especially Zuo Jing and the former Star Zone army.”

There was nothing amiss in what Old Wu said; it did account for the reasons.

Nonetheless, while it’s conceivable for the Fourteenth Legion to close communications with the company or other forces, it’s odd to keep a closed management and break contact with Chen Ming, their rescue target.

What is the Fourteenth Legion up to? What is Bai Quan doing? Is he going back on his word?

Three more questions instantly popped into Chen Ming’s head.

Yet as always, without sufficient information, answers would never come.

Chen Ming couldn’t blame Old Wu or the director; they’d done all they could.

But the lack of information increasingly endangered his situation.

Thus, Chen Ming had to start considering his escape plan.

However, he wasn’t inclined to just leave yet.

Because in order to leave directly now, he would need to go through Alpha Level Dusk, whom he controls.
