After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 539: Chapter 543 Father and Son [3]

”Zimo!” Luo Xiaoqian raised her hand to grab his wrist, taking the wet towel from him, ”I can do this myself, you... why don’t you go spend some time with your dad?”

Although Father Leng hadn’t spelled it out, both of them didn’t find it hard to picture the scene from those years ago, the hug between Leng Lin and Luo Xiaoqian’s mother that was definitely free of any romantic feelings.

Leng Zimo stood up, but he stayed rooted to the spot without moving.

Putting aside those misunderstandings, when his mother was ill and needed care the most, what was he doing? He was just working, working, working every day!

Even during his mother’s last days, he hadn’t stayed by her side, and these things were indeed his fault.

Even if the misunderstandings had been cleared up, he still felt a burning sense of injustice for his mother in his heart.

”Zimo!” Outside the door, Leng Lin’s voice was heard, ”Can I have a few words with you?”

”Of course, he’ll be right there.”

Luo Xiaoqian stood up, grabbed Leng Zimo’s arm, and shook it.

Leng Zimo raised an eyebrow, still unmoving.

She just smiled and shook his arm again, cooing softly, ”Zimo, hubby, my good hubby...”

Leng Zimo glanced at her helplessly, ”Wait for me, I’ll be right back.”

”Okay!” Luo Xiaoqian immediately smiled, pushing him all the way to the door and then pulling it open for him.

Leng Zimo gave her a sideways glance as he stepped into the study across the hallway, where the door was ajar.

Inside the study, Leng Lin had already cleared the desk and stood with his back to him by the table. Hearing him come in, Leng Lin slowly turned around.

Father and son faced each other across the table.

”Even if this was all a misunderstanding, I still haven’t forgiven you,” Leng Zimo said.

Leng Lin pursed his lips and took a deep breath, ”I’m sorry.”

Leng Zimo’s eyebrows twitched slightly.

The father in his memory was absolutely dominant, never admitting his faults, even when he clearly was in the wrong. And now, for his father to apologize to him, Leng Zimo was taken aback.

”Back then, it was indeed my fault. I was too selfish, too focused on my work. If I had cared more for your mother, maybe she could have stayed with you a few more years. I don’t expect you to forgive me,” Leng Lin paused slightly, ”I truly wasn’t a competent father or a capable husband. Your unwillingness to forgive me is justified!”

Turning away, he looked back out the window, ”I’ve said my piece; you can go now. Shichang just called, take Xiao Qian with you to see him, maybe you can provide some clue.”

Leng Zimo stood in the room, looking at his father’s back.

After all these years, this was the first time he had looked at him so carefully.

In his memory, his father had always stood tall with his back straight, strong and assertive. But this time, seeing his father’s silhouette, Leng Zimo felt keenly the weight of his age. His hair, once fully black just a few years ago, was now grizzled. Although his posture remained straight, his figure was enveloped in endless loneliness.

Leng Zimo stepped forward instinctively, moving a few steps closer to his father, his hand naturally lifting toward his father’s shoulder.

Hearing his approaching footsteps, Leng Lin abruptly turned around.

”Zimo?!”

Looking at his face, Leng Zimo curled his fingers, plucking a stray hair from his shoulder.

”Don’t misunderstand, I just wanted to remove it, that’s all!”

Clutching the hair, Leng Zimo turned and walked out of the study, heading straight to the room where Luo Xiaoqian was. He reached out to take her hand.

”Let’s go, we’re heading to the police station.”
