After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 515: Chapter 518 The Whereabouts of That Person [4]

Watching him run down the bridge towards the river, Old Zhao merely let out a long sigh.

The siren buzzed.

Several police cars quickly drove in.

Leng Lin and Xu Shichang, among others, got out of the cars one after another. Old Zhao immediately ran over to brief them on the situation, and Xu Shichang gave the order on the spot to search for Luo Xiaoqian’s whereabouts along both sides of the river, centered on this location. The accompanying officers with police dogs immediately dashed toward the steps down from the bridge.

Old Zhao glanced at Leng Lin, who stood not too far away, and gently tugged on Xu Shichang’s arm, pulling him aside.

”Director Xu, Leng Zimo injured Brother Chuan’s leg, what should we do about it...”

Xu Shichang’s eyebrows slightly furrowed, and after a moment of thought, he asked, ”What did you tell them?”

”I only said that Brother Chuan tried to snatch my gun and that I shot him,” Old Zhao replied.

”Mm!” Xu Shichang nodded, ”Write the report like that later on, and this must be kept confidential.”

”Yes, understood,” Old Zhao nodded firmly.

”What’s going on?” Not far away, Leng Lin turned his face.

”Ah, nothing!” Xu Shichang stepped forward, ”Don’t worry, isn’t Miss Xu from Qingdao? She was born by the sea and can surely swim. My guess is, she must have drifted downstream along the river. We’ll find her very soon.”

”I hope so,” Leng Lin sighed, ”If anything happens to this child, I’ll never be at peace for the rest of my life.”

...

...

Lakeside villa.

”It wasn’t me, it really wasn’t me, Zimo, you have to believe me, I didn’t do it... ah...”

Xu Pei woke up abruptly from her nightmare, her head and face covered in cold sweat.

Just now, she had a nightmare.

In the dream, Leng Zimo held a blood-stained check in his hand, confronting her with the signature on it.

Glancing at the sunlight coming in through the window, she swiftly got out of her nightgown, changed into her clothes, and without even washing her face, she rushed to the garage downstairs.

As she opened the car door, she suddenly remembered something.

After closing the car door again, she carefully walked around to the front of the car. The front end showed no signs of impact, only some bloodstains that had already been washed away by the rain. She then rushed to the back and immediately saw a large area of scraped paint on the back of the car.

No, she couldn’t drive this car anymore.

After closing the car door, she turned and ran back to the living room, bolted out of the living room’s door, walked straight out of the villa, and made it to the main road before she hailed a taxi.

”Where are you heading?” The taxi driver asked politely.

Without a word, Xu Pei pulled out sunglasses from her bag and put them on, ”Houhai.”

”You’re going into the city? I... don’t usually drive into the city,” the taxi driver said, sounding a bit troubled. After all, the city was more than an hour’s drive from the villas here.

Xu Pei didn’t respond, just opened her purse and pulled out more than a dozen hundred-yuan notes, handing them to him.

”Take me to Houhai, and all this is yours.”

The taxi driver happily accepted the money, his face breaking into a smile. ”Alright, strap in. We’ll take the highway, and we’ll be there in an hour!”

The car headed towards the city, and the poor-quality radio intermittently played some songs.

Xu Pei was agitated inside, ”Turn off the music!”

”Sure, no problem!” The driver reached over, intending to turn off the broadcast.

Just then, the voice of a radio host suddenly came on, ”We interrupt this program with a message from the city police department. Early this morning, a car accident occurred near Houhai...”

”Wait!” Xu Pei exclaimed urgently, and the driver looked at her, retracting the hand he had extended.

”Now, the city police are seeking witnesses related to the incident. Anyone with information can provide clues and receive a reward from our city’s Public Security Bureau...”
