After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 537: Chapter 541 Father and Son [1]

Leng Zimo looked at his father’s face and lifted his hand to grasp the kraft paper envelope, but across from him, Leng Lin’s palm didn’t let go.

Across the table, watching his son’s face, Leng Lin spoke in a low voice.

”I’m showing you this not because I want to prove anything to you. My love for your mother has never changed; that kind of emotion doesn’t need proof,” Leng Lin sighed softly, ”I’m bringing this out just because I don’t want Xiao Qian to suffer anymore. This child shouldn’t have to endure any more hardship.”

He slowly withdrew his fingers, and the weight of the heavy kraft paper envelope fell entirely into Leng Zimo’s hands.

Giving his father, who had sat back down, a scrutinizing look, Leng Zimo exchanged a glance with Luo Xiaoqian before he opened the kraft paper envelope and took out the contents.

Curiously leaning in from his side, Luo Xiaoqian also wanted to see what Leng Lin was showing them.

Red credentials, a metal name tag...

Noticing the items in Leng Zimo’s hands, she puzzledly took the name tag to look at it.

Flipping it to the front, her eyes landed on the three characters ”Luo Chuchen,” and surprise immediately filled her eyes.

”Is this my dad’s stuff?”

At her side, Leng Zimo had already flipped open the credential.

Seeing the position of her father shown on it, Luo Xiaoqian exclaimed in shock again, ”How is this possible... wasn’t my dad just an ordinary person?”

Luo Xiaoqian took the credentials from Leng Zimo’s hands and looked carefully at the photo while Leng Zimo’s gaze once again fell on Leng Lin.

”Why?”

He was clearly a high-ranking official, yet to the outside world, he was only known as an ordinary person; there had to be a reason.

”I can’t tell you the reason; it is a state secret,” Leng Lin stood up, his gaze gently falling on Luo Xiaoqian’s face, ”Your father was the most loyal person under my command. These years have caused you and your mother much suffering; I apologize.”

Luo Xiaoqian tightly gripped the credentials and her father’s name tag in her hand, ”I don’t understand what you’re saying...”

Leng Lin walked over from behind the desk, lifted his palm, and supported her arm, ”In fact, your father didn’t die ten years ago. He was just executing a secret mission. However, five years ago, just two days before Zimo’s mother passed away, due to some special circumstances, he sacrificed his precious life for the country and the people. That time, when your mother came to the Capital, it was to handle your father’s affairs. Your mother was a great woman. You should be proud of her; she never betrayed your father.”

Luo Xiaoqian stood frozen in place.

She had never imagined that the father she thought had died, had actually not died but was out there on a mission for years by himself.

This truth was beyond her imagination.

No wonder, after that time her mother returned, she was always so quiet and became depressed, eventually fallng ill and never getting better.

It turns out, that time was the true final farewell with her father.

”Where is dad now?” Luo Xiaoqian asked with tears in her eyes.

Ten years ago, the official report of her father’s death cited an accident and no body was found. Now, having learned the truth, she naturally wanted to know where her father’s remains were.

”The grave I took you to last time, that is Chuchen’s burial site. I’m very sorry, but we cannot yet inscribe his name on his tombstone!”

Leng Lin withdrew his arm, stepped back, and then bent down to bow to her, ”Luo Xiaoqian, I’m sorry!”
