After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 523: Chapter 526 A Phone Call [2]

In Sichuan, he had witnessed firsthand the life-and-death love between the two of them, and just days before, they had announced their engagement so publicly, how could things have suddenly turned out like this?!

”Don’t ask anymore, I don’t want to talk about it.”

It involved her own mother and father; she couldn’t bring herself to speak of such things.

Even she herself couldn’t accept that her mother could do such a thing.

Although her father was seldom home, the couple had always shown affection for each other, every time Dad came home, he would spend almost all his time with Mom, helping her wash dishes, prepare vegetables, even washing her feet...

That man adored his wife like a princess, how could Mother possibly betray such a father?!

”I know it’s a matter between you two, and as a friend, I shouldn’t ask too much.” Seeing her pursing her lips, struggling to control her emotions, Jiao Yang tried to restrain the urge to hold her in his arms and comfort her, ”I just feel that you... you both deserved happiness.”

”I’m sorry, Jiao Yang, you really don’t want to say,” Luo Xiaoqian said with her face downcast.

”Well... okay then...” he raised his hand to his chest, ”Although our relationship is only a great friendship, I don’t mind lending my shoulder for you to lean on for a while.”

Luo Xiaoqian lifted her face and gave him a forced smile, ”Can I go upstairs for a while?”

”Of course!” Jiao Yang got up to make way, speaking in a teasing tone, ”My study has good soundproofing, if you need to vent, you can go there, second room on the left.”

Luo Xiaoqian didn’t respond, but turned and went upstairs, heading directly to the balcony on the second floor instead of the study.

After hesitating for a while upstairs, Jiao Yang, unable to set his mind at rest, went up quietly, only to see her sitting on the balcony with her back to him, her arms around her legs, her chin resting on her knees, her curved back so thin that her bones were visible, like a lonely statue.

Looking at that slender figure, his heart once again uncontrollably began to ache.

For the first time in his life, he felt such torment over a woman.

Taking a cigarette from his pocket and placing it between his lips, he slowly sat down on the floor, leaning against the wall with the cigarette in his mouth, but he didn’t light it.

A man and a woman, sitting in silence.

She stood on the balcony, while he stayed in the dark corridor, guarding his goddess like an angel.

And they sat just like that, the entire night through.

She didn’t sleep, and naturally, neither could he.

It wasn’t until the alarm clock in the bedroom went off that Jiao Yang stood up, went into the bedroom to switch off the alarm, came out to the hallway and saw that Luo Xiaoqian was still in the same position as before. He took a couple of steps towards her, then turned back to the living room, picked up the phone from the coffee table, and dialed a number.

...

...

Leng Family Mansion.

Leng Zimo frowned in his sleep, his head on the pillow, while Shen Yizhou sat beside him, also nodding off.

A bag of medication had just been replaced on the rack beside them and was slowly dripping.

On the bedside table, Leng Zimo’s mobile phone suddenly rang.

Shen Yizhou had just sat up straight when Leng Zimo grabbed the phone sharply.

”Any news?”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line.

”This is Jiao Yang.”

The glimmer of hope in Leng Zimo’s eyes dimmed instantly, ”What do you need?”

On the other end of the line, Jiao Yang lifted his face to glance in the direction of the staircase.

”Luo Xiaoqian is here with me.”

Then, he gave out his address.
