After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 538: Chapter 542 Father and Son [2]

Head bowed, she looked at the blood-red ID in her hands, and Luo Xiaoqian’s eyes blurred.

In a daze, what she saw was her father’s smile, as bright as the morning sun.

”They all say Xiao Qian’s dad was just an ordinary soldier.”

”Who said that? Tell them, Daddy is a very, very impressive person!”

”A lieutenant?”

”Bigger than a lieutenant!”

”So, a captain?”

”Even bigger than a captain!”

”Then is Daddy a general?”

”Xiao Qian, don’t rush. One day Daddy will definitely become a general!”

...

”Xiao Qian, take good care of Mommy. When Daddy comes back from this mission, the three of us can always be together. Listen to Mommy, okay?”

”What mission is Daddy going on?”

”That, well, that’s a secret. When Xiao Qian grows up, Daddy will tell you, okay?”

...

As a child, she didn’t understand the difference between a soldier and a general. She only knew that her father was in Beijing. Later, when she grew up and remembered those things, she was always curious why a dad who was just an ordinary person would be so busy.

Now, she finally understood that her father had never been ordinary.

As a child, Daddy was the general in her eyes. Only when she grew up did she learn that it was just a lie to appease her, and not until now did she realize that her father had never lied.

”Actually, your father was already more than just this position. After his death, we posthumously promoted him to the rank of major general,” Leng Lin said softly from the side.

”I know!” Luo Xiaoqian’s voice was choked with emotion, ”He was a general. He always has been...”

By her side, Leng Zimo stepped forward, pulling her into his embrace, not saying a word, just gently patting her back.

He knew that at this moment, she needed to cry once, and all he needed to do was give her a shoulder.

Both men were silent, and in the study, only Luo Xiaoqian’s low sobs gently sounded.

After a while, Luo Xiaoqian regained control of her emotions and lifted her face from Leng Zimo’s embrace, looking towards Leng Lin.

”Thank you for telling me all this, and for taking care of my father for so many years,” she said.

The last time she visited her father’s grave, she didn’t see a single weed, only a neatly kept gravesite, but the tombstone bore no name.

It wasn’t hard for her to guess, the person looking after her father’s grave must be Leng Lin.

She knew her father’s character well. In his heart, his duty was to protect the safety of the nation and its people. To fulfill such a mission was an honor for him, so she bore no grudge against Leng Lin.

”It’s my duty,” Leng Lin replied with a gentle look at her, ”I am sorry that I couldn’t provide special care for you and your mother. I truly am sorry for what happened to her.”

Luo Xiaoqian shook her head lightly.

”What I told you both today must remain confidential,” Leng Lin took back Luo Chuchen’s ID from her hand, ”because, as of now, it’s not all over yet.”

”I understand,” Luo Xiaoqian nodded in agreement.

She had already seen the words ”confidential” on the ID. As a high-level official, it was rare indeed for him to share such vital pieces of information with her.

”Let’s go, I will take you to wash your face!”

Leng Zimo comforted her as they walked out of the study, leading her to the adjacent bedroom that was once his. He fetched a damp towel from the bathroom and carefully wiped her face.
