I Am Your Natural Enemy

To tell you the truth, the person we’re looking for this time may be connected to the Nanyang Union’s affairs.

Moreover, these brazen fellows have even spread their net to my superior’s personal cellphone.

Ha...”

”Government, this has nothing to do with me!” Hearing this, the prisoner’s scalp tingled. Of course, he’s seen the news; the only thing available inside is the news. He definitely knows that something big happened in Nanyang.

Upon hearing this, he quickly denied any involvement.

”I swear, I only seek money, not lives.”

”Don’t be nervous, I’m just asking. If you know anything and want to say something, go ahead. If not, I’ll ask someone else. You’re just lucky to be the first one asked.”

The prisoner, hearing this, immediately began to think about how to sell out his peers.

He knows himself; he doesn’t get involved in harming lives. Even when scamming, he never meets the victims face-to-face, following a modern approach.

If there’s any peer involved in harming lives, it certainly has nothing to do with him, and this would be a perfect way to earn merit.

Especially if it’s connected to such a globally significant event, and possibly a murder case, providing any key information could guarantee significant merit, possibly even reducing his sentence by thirty or forty percent.

If it’s just about reporting peers involved in scamming, the best outcome might be a lighter sentence, but it’d also mean making enemies out of people, so that when he gets out in a few years, no one would be willing to help him.

The prisoner’s thoughts raced as he began recalling things he knew or had heard about before.

”I have heard some things, but I just heard them, can’t guarantee they’re true...”

”It’s okay, take your time and say whatever comes to mind.”

”Can I have a smoke?”

The interrogation expert, smiling, pulled out a cigarette. Seeing this gesture, the prisoner became even more certain that a peer of his had committed a major crime, possibly helping him reduce his sentence.

Half an hour later, the interrogation expert left with a record, heading to another location with a detention center.

”Don’t be nervous, we’re just having a chat, there’s something else I want to ask you.

You’re lucky, you’re the first one I’m looking for here...”

Before long, he left with the transcript, quite satisfied.

He knows these guys’ mindsets too well; if the matter is big enough, the one being sacrificed for merit is mostly doomed, making them even more proactive.

On the other side, the person who called Wen Yan had also been taken back for interrogation.

Actually, interrogation wasn’t really needed; once the identity was known, a lot could be dug out. Then, caught red-handed, the guy hadn’t even disposed of the bought SIM cards yet, making matters even simpler.

The interrogation expert from the Scorching Sun Department always kept a smile during his sessions. The task was so enjoyable; not too difficult, but significant. Better than being idle, when idle, how could he trade these for bonuses and stack up merit?

Two hours later, Feng Yao made a call to Wen Yan.

”It really is related to Nanyang. These people scam, fooling those who are never satisfied, and then sell them out as laborers.

Based on current intelligence, it can be inferred that these people’s targets are those who think they’ll die abroad anyway.

In recent years, a few thousand who longed for the outside world have died out there.

It was speculated that among the remains excavated in Nanyang, there might be people from Divine Land.

Unexpectedly, there really were.

Especially in earlier years, likely the most, but in recent years, many intermediaries have been raking it in.

They developed new routes to directly cross to the rainforest on the other side of the ocean, skipping Nanyang completely.

Plus, with our crackdown on scams in recent years, this route is now rarely used.”

Wen Yan suddenly understood, so the Lost Souls seen earlier weren’t absent; there really were souls from Divine Land, but they had lost their self-awareness, none from the past two years.

”What else was discovered?”

”The person who called you was just inheriting a senior’s network and resources.

Unfortunately, she was tricked; what she thought were new resources were actually data over a year old.

She spent a lot of money to buy this data.

After hearing that the calls reached some senior official’s personal number in a relevant department, she’s realized she was tricked.

She’s now sold out the person who sold her the data, who was just about to pass through customs and got caught on the spot.

Can you guess what happened to this person after being caught?”

”Oh, learned to be mysterious now, huh? What happened?”

”Once the case got entangled, related cases were all transferred to the Scorching Sun Department, it was our field agent who arrested him.

The agent looked pretty fierce, not wearing a police uniform, and the guy thought it was for something else.

He immediately started pleading and, in a slip, blurted out things he shouldn’t have.

Remember the Ghost Wealth God from before?”

”How’s this related to Ghost Wealth God?” Wen Yan was a bit confused; how did it turn to Ghost Wealth God? Weren’t most of them dealt with?

”Why’s that strange? It’s all deception and hoodwinking; common connections are normal.

Do you remember the previous information?

The small shrines of those Ghost Wealth Gods in the Netherworld are all still there, as is the grand hall.

It wasn’t affected at all by your trip to Nanyang.

In fact, this thing wasn’t originally created by the guys from Nanyang.

They simply don’t have the capability or foundation; this stuff originally existed in Divine Land.
