I Am Your Natural Enemy

After sorting out the new data and information, he looked at the empty cup beside him, contemplating whether to have another cup of coffee to perk up.

Seeing no new discoveries in the cases for now, he went to the cafeteria to grab something to eat first.

Half an hour later, Feng Yao returned after having breakfast and continued reviewing and organizing the newly received materials.

Once everything was sorted out, he glanced at the bar chart on the screen next to him, and one of the graphs immediately caught his attention.

He furrowed his brow and picked up the phone.

”Have all the cases been summarized? Are there any newly emerged ones that haven’t been reported?”

Listening to the voice on the phone, after a moment, Feng Yao hung up.

He waited quietly until noon; the number of cases reported afterward dwindled.

Moreover, the cases reported afterward had all occurred before 1 AM yesterday night.

He noticed something amiss in the morning; there was a bar chart of the time of crime and the number of cases, counted hourly. For the past two days, there were cases every hour. By night, especially between midnight and three or four in the morning, it was a peak period.

However, after 1 AM last night, there were no cases at all.

It’s not that there were no burglary cases, but there were no burglary cases meeting the related criteria.

From 1 AM until now, 12 noon, there were no new cases.

All the cases reported had occurred before 1 AM yesterday morning.

He immediately called the General Director and briefed him on the situation.

”What do you think is the situation?” the General Director asked.

”I think the impact has been felt, and the biggest wave has already ended.

Judging by these current cases, those who were first affected had the most significant emotional fluctuations, and their impulses were the strongest.

So, there were the most people in the first two days. Even if some people acquired related abilities, if they didn’t impulsively commit crimes in the first two days, it is unlikely that they would commit crimes afterward.

But I don’t believe everyone can restrain themselves.

Judging by the data from the previous 48 hours and the 200 to 300 people we’ve already caught, analyzing the data.

I believe the most likely scenario is that after 1 AM yesterday, no new individuals acquired any abilities.

Moreover, when those people acquired abilities or wondrous items, they must have been influenced to become impulsive and reckless, eager to try.

Again, data do not lie. The data suddenly dropped to zero for 11 consecutive hours, there must be a reason.

I simply don’t believe that the remaining people suddenly all became law-abiding.

The proportion of bizarre cases among those we’ve caught this time is too high, because the proportion of impulsive actions is also far higher than normal data.

There must be a reason for this.”

”Do you think something happened around 1 AM yesterday?”

”Yes, I think that energy and power no longer need to be broadcast so widely. It has already found suitable targets and started to be guided.”

”Do you also believe in the theory that matter disappears and is transformed into energy?”

”I’ve tested it; I looked at the image captured by the satellite, and I found my sensation has significantly diminished compared to the first, second, and third times.”

Hearing this, the General Director couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

Feng Yao, this guy, actually confirmed it using this method?

The General Director looked at the materials sent by Feng Yao, and among them, there was a clear graph in one of the summaries.

There were even vomiting videos taken every 12 hours, along with detailed written records of feelings, the terrifying time for the brain, impact time, subjective intensity, and so on.

Even without looking at the text, just by watching the video, the General Director could see that there was no particularly significant difference in the first three times.

However, the fourth time, the impact on Feng Yao was visibly reduced.

Using such a bizarre method as an auxiliary verification, the General Director had nothing more to say.

Coupled with the things Feng Yao had prepared, it can be said to be very reasonable and evidential.

”Do you have any suspected targets?”

”There are none on the current list.”

”I’ll allocate you a part of the computing power; this matter must be taken seriously.”

Hearing this, Feng Yao felt very satisfied, for he knew how tight the computing power was for the Scorching Sun Department now.

The new computing power center was being built based on the highest estimate of 200% demand growth, in order to ensure that when the new computing power center is operational, the previous one would still be sufficient.

But plans can’t keep up with changes; now it’s not enough. Otherwise, the General Director wouldn’t need to urge every so often.

To still be allocated computing power and corresponding resources, this matter’s priority can be considered very high.

It also proves that his work and ability have been recognized. Next, he will be the lead on the corresponding event.

Feng Yao has actually been under quite a bit of pressure recently. He is still young and was promoted by Cai Qidong to become the Chief Secretary, keeping him extremely busy.

After Cai Qidong had an incident, it was suspicious that no new minister was parachuted in, nor was a new minister promoted locally; the position of minister of Nanwu County has remained vacant.

However, according to previous habits, the relevant affairs were all handled by Feng Yao under Cai Qidong’s direction. The person who understands the most is Feng Yao, and the one who can ensure the most stable policy execution without major upheavals is also Feng Yao.

Plus, after Feng Yao attended several meetings at headquarters, things are now directly reported to the General Director.

When encountering significant events now, apart from not having the decisiveness of ultimate decision-making power, in other parts, he can basically be said to be acting as the minister.
