I Am Your Natural Enemy

Ji Youli left with a plastic card and tools from his small bag. As he reached the doorway, ready to help the neighbor girl close the door, he stopped abruptly, staring at the door frame.

The door frame of the security door wasn’t the simplest smooth structure; further past the keyhole, there was a vertical concave structure running up and down, and the corresponding edge of the door had a convex structure.

With the addition of shock absorption strips, not only could it reduce the noise and collision when closing the door, but it could also enhance the tightness, greatly improving the sealing and soundproofing.

It was made of 304 stainless steel, with a color coating applied, and judging by the size, it seemed custom-made, likely costing eight to ten thousand.

These details flashed through his mind quickly.

He glanced down at the plastic card in his hand, seeing no noticeable bends, and this type of card certainly couldn’t pry open such a door.

Was he not paying attention earlier?

How did he open this door in such a simple, rough manner?

Ji Youli was somewhat bewildered. Listening to the sounds inside the house, he decided to close the neighbor’s door first.

Then he stood at his own door, trying the plastic card again, but as expected, it couldn’t be inserted into the side gap of the door at all.

He used his key to open his own door, checked the structure, and found it identical to the neighbor’s.

Back home, eating dinner, Ji Youli was absent-minded, constantly pondering how he opened the door earlier.

After dinner, he lost interest in playing on his phone. After showering, he couldn’t fall asleep, tossing and turning, eventually getting up again to test the door several more times, only to have the thin plastic card break, still failing to insert it into the gap.

Ji Youli sighed, increasingly unable to figure it out.

The next morning, he rose early, sitting by the door waiting, and when he heard noises from the opposite apartment, he immediately opened the door.

He feared he might have seen wrongly last night and wanted to check again today.

Opening the door, he immediately noticed the concave structure at the edge of the door frame.

The girl from across was quite enthusiastic, insisting on treating him to breakfast upon meeting, since he had declined money yesterday, and she felt awkward bothering him at night to pay.

During breakfast, Ji Youli remained somewhat absent-minded. At work, he overheard his colleagues discussing something supernatural.

”My relative fled back overnight from Nanyang, terrified, saying even if gold rained from the sky, he wouldn’t go back.”

”Is what’s being said online true?”

”It’s likely true, remember last month’s incident?”

”What incident?”

”Our department’s Ah Zhu, her daughter seemed possessed, suddenly speaking a northern dialect out of nowhere.

But one night she suddenly recovered, saying she saw the whole city on fire, flames everywhere, as if bathed in sunlight, feeling warm.

We nearly called the fire department.”

”How do you know?”

”I was present, how could I not know?

She heard from somewhere that I knew a master.

For the sake of colleagues, I helped find her a master.

As soon as they arrived, her daughter suddenly recovered, the master then left in haste without taking money.

I said it couldn’t be fake, as I’ve seen her daughter, still learning Mandarin, how could she suddenly speak a northern dialect, there must be issues.

Now, what’s said online about Nanyang, I think it’s likely true.

Rumor has it that the unearthed remains in Nanyang are more horrifying than mass graves.”

Listening to his colleagues bragging and discussing these matters, Ji Youli had a word flash in his mind.

Spiritual Qi Resurgence?

He had seen similar accounts recently but regarded them as mere stories, never taking them seriously.

Yet last night, the way he opened the door remained inexplicable, unusually abnormal.

Commencing work, as always, he crafted doors at the factory, adhering to custom client specifications—cutting, bending, welding, and more.

Meanwhile, the Yu State Scorching Sun Department’s Field Agents appeared at a gold store.

They retrieved the store’s surveillance footage, scrutinizing it with furrowed brows.

The gold store was burglarized at night, without any alarm being triggered, the reason this case reached the Scorching Sun Department’s hands was due to the clear surveillance capturing the thief using a key to unlock everything.

From the main entrance lock, to the counter locks, even the safe’s lock.

Watching the video entirely, it was exceedingly certain that the thief never changed keys, gripping it consistently from beginning to end.

All actions seemed like normal unlocking, even the store’s alarm system was deactivated by this key.

The thief gathered up all precious metal jewelry from the counter, then opened the restroom door and vanished within.

The pivotal reason for transferring the case to the Scorching Sun Department was this.

The suspect vanished inside the restroom, which had no surveillance and lacked any exit routes; there were no windows, no signs of breakage, nor tunnels.

The Scorching Sun Department’s Field Agents scrutinized the surveillance video, the suspect wearing a motorcycle helmet, obscuring his face.

”Take the hard drive, hand it to the tech department.”

What era do we live in, thinking covering the face means no detection, with such high-resolution videos and precise surrounding references.
