I Am Your Natural Enemy

And this is just one day, and the number of cases with this kind of trait has already exceeded the total for the entire year so far.

You should understand what that means, right?”

Wen Yan had just been thinking that theft cases were the most common kind of case; even if they involved wondrous items or Professionals, they’d still be the most ordinary kind.

But after listening, He understood the main point wasn’t the thefts.

He also understood what Feng Yao was trying to say.

It’s probably that Men Jushou He killed yesterday—after its body completely vanished, the energy it released all at once was a bit too much.

That energy that spilled out may have been tainted with some related traits, maybe letting certain people gain some abilities, or turning certain things into wondrous items.

Of course it’s also possible that the giant beast was unwilling to just dissipate like that, and made one last bit of impact in the end.

Wen Yan still remembered that the prompt had said Men Jushou had devoured a Strange Octopus from the real world, and thus obtained a ”grows stronger when facing stronger enemies” entry.

Now that things are erupting like a geyser, maybe there will be people or items that can inherit Men Jushou’s Ability.

As long as the most crucial Power is still around, then what Men Jushou wanted to do will not be entirely hopeless.

After all, it’s all kinds of rice raising all kinds of people; who the hell knows how things will develop down the line.

Before something like the Gatling appeared, who would have thought its inventor was actually a doctor.

Wen Yan looked at the files, listened to Feng Yao, and agreed to take this on.

”Alright then, I’m almost at Southern Sea County. I’ll nab him on the way—do I bring him back to Nanwu County, or hand him straight to the Southern Sea County branch?”

”Of course you bring him back. You caught him, so he counts as Nanwu County’s. This guy is the only one in all related cases who can cross space.”

”Okay, I’ll bring him in.”

After hanging up, Wen Yan checked the related files; the ones the Scorching Sun Department had actually detected already numbered over a hundred, and most of them had to do with theft.

Then, the ones who haven’t done anything illegal, or haven’t been found, must be the vast majority, right?

If this really is related to Men Jushou, then the emergence of this pattern must involve selective preference.

That’s something that deserves to be treated seriously.

When the Dahlia was nearing Cape of the Sea and still some distance out, Wen Yan disembarked in advance, letting the Water Ghosts keep piloting the ship and stand guard; if anything happened, they could just call him directly.

Wen Yan dropped into the water, and beneath the surface Gray Cloth dragged him forward at high speed.

Just as he was about to reach the shore, His peripheral vision suddenly caught a flash of golden light, but when He looked again, there was nothing there.

He swam in that direction, and after going about one li, His peripheral vision again caught a flicker of golden light.

This time He saw it clearly: it was in the sand and stones on the seabed.

He swam over and dug at the spot He’d seen; He didn’t have to dig very deep before He unearthed a burlap sack. Opening it for a look, He found inside a large number of gold necklaces, Gold Rings, golden bracelets and the like.

Wen Yan went quiet for a moment and glanced at the still–active Bane of Gold He hadn’t taken off.

This counts as Affinity too?

All these gold accessories were extremely new; He roughly guessed where they’d come from.

Aside from that suspect who works as a Potential Supervisor, it’s hard to imagine anyone local being so loaded and so wasteful—stashing this many pricey metal accessories not at home, but buried under a coral reef on the seabed.

Having the same person also just happen to have gotten hold of this much stolen loot recently, and buried it here, is likewise the kind of small–probability event you can basically ignore.

Wen Yan hefted the bag of jewelry and found a place to come ashore. He checked His own location and the suspect’s current position; sure enough, it was right nearby.

That guy’s workplace was not far from here.

Wen Yan called the Southern Sea County Scorching Sun Department and asked them to arrange transport vehicles.

Wen Yan grabbed the sack of loot in His hand and headed toward the target.

When He arrived, Wen Yan didn’t see the target at the marked location; apparently the man was in the water. Wen Yan bought a coconut and sat by the beach to wait, and twenty minutes later He saw the target bringing tourists back in a boat.

Seeing the man head into a building not far off, Wen Yan picked up the sack and slung on His own backpack, then followed.

He tailed the man into the restroom, and when the guy instinctively glanced over and saw the bag Wen Yan was carrying, he immediately pulled out a key and jabbed it toward the door beside him.

But the next instant his hand froze in midair; Gray Cloth wrapped around his arm and, at the same time, bound his legs. With a gentle trip, it sent him crashing straight to the floor.

Wen Yan stepped forward and took the key from his hand. It was an ordinary cruciform key, matched to a very low–security A–grade lock, with a numbered tag hanging off the end.

Wen Yan thought for a moment; it was probably the tag for some personal locker. Considering this guy was a Potential Supervisor, this key was likely his Ability.

”Door–Opening Key.”

”On the premise that the holder has the corresponding profession, this key can open any door lock the holder has personally touched, and can simultaneously open two doors located in different places, both currently closed, and cause the two doors to merge into one.

Once the door is opened, anyone can pass through it and complete a spatial crossing.”

”When normal people don’t have a key, who the hell goes around feeling up door locks?”

Wen Yan turned to look at the restroom door lock. It was one of those round twist–handle locks, with the keyhole right in the center of the round knob.
