I Am Your Natural Enemy

The neighborhood is as quiet as ever, with streetlights neither too bright nor too dim, just the right atmosphere.

Wen Yan arrived at Pei Tugou’s home entrance; at this hour, no one is resting yet. The old lady is still on the rooftop listening to opera. During this season in Nanwu County, it’s the most comfortable time without needing air conditioning, and it’s not cold yet.

When Wen Yan entered, he glanced inside and saw the silly son lying on the bed, waving his little hands, looking chubbier than a few days ago.

Wen Yan doesn’t really understand how to raise children, but he truly understands raising pigs, having tried it before. For a pig to gain a pound or two a day is normal. In very comfortable conditions, even five or six pounds is possible.

Even for a piglet, gaining half a pound a day is no problem.

He silently calculated the ratio and growth duration as he entered the room to greet people, then came to the bedside, picked up the wide-eyed silly son, and estimated the weight.

Then he spoke earnestly.

”I knew it, you don’t know when you’ve had enough. I’ve told you to eat slowly, don’t rush. Why don’t you listen? Eating too much will harm your body, and then there will be nothing to eat later.”

The silly son waved his little hands, smacked his lips, and stared at Wen Yan with wide eyes, giggling foolishly.

Wen Yan looked at the prompt, sighed.

The first fixed ability he acquired, and also the first with progress, this progress compared to later abilities is like treading water.

But this time, just by summoning a part of the silly son’s True Body and feeding him a super meal, the progress jumped 10% directly.

Previously, it’d inch along with 1% occasionally, but reaching 19%, now it suddenly shot to 29%.

The previous two progress increases were due to feeding, but each time it was less, so Wen Yan hadn’t considered it much.

The third big increase was again due to feeding.

But there seems to be only progress increase, no special changes, unlike Scorching Sun, where every 10% brings a new special effect.

Because of this, Wen Yan wasn’t especially motivated to find ways to push progress. Just letting it be naturally was fine.

He didn’t expect the silly son to grow up to be particularly powerful or successful, as long as he’s a normal person with average intelligence, that’s enough.

Having seen too many abnormal things, Wen Yan felt that this expectation was actually not low.

The silly son reached out, wanting to grab Wen Yan’s finger, smacking his mouth, a hint of blue light glimmering in his eyes, seemingly in a particularly good mood, becoming especially affectionate.

”This little rascal is really practical, pretends not to recognize me when not fed, but after being fed, remembers I’m his dad.”

Wen Yan teased the silly son, his mood relaxed.

Soon, the silly son drowsily fell asleep, and Wen Yan put him down on the bed, then headed to the rooftop to greet the old lady.

The old lady was as always, carrying a boldness that many young people lack; after just one look at Wen Yan, she said.

”In the past, many people participating in wars would constantly think about their families, when there’s something on your mind, that breath persists.

After the war ends, returning home, seeing their young children, the heart would become much calmer.

Killing is not a great experience, even if it’s enemies, the pressure is enormous.

Even the most determined warrior I’ve seen would, after an encounter battle, vomit profusely with a pale face.

The difference is, in battle, there was never hesitation or retreat, knowing he’s doing the right thing, and when back, he wouldn’t have nightmares for killing enemies.”

”You misunderstood, I haven’t killed anyone.” Wen Yan stated with confidence, indeed, he didn’t personally send anyone away this time.

The old lady looked Wen Yan up and down, said nothing, but upon seeing Wen Yan, she could tell he had definitely just gone through a prolonged battle; his mental state she’d recognize at a glance.

”Rest well, don’t cook or order takeout for a few days, come eat with us, more people, more lively.”

The old lady spoke with such firmness that Wen Yan couldn’t refuse.

Wen Yan could only nod and agree.

Back at home, Wen Yan found himself not tired anymore.

He picked up the phone, calling one after another, reporting his safety, while also briefly explaining the situation and asking about the current state.

After speaking enough, the General Director said.

”Don’t forget why you went to the Nanyang Union; you still need to attend the meeting.

This incident caused quite a stir, it’s best not to be the lead figure.

Especially with those Lost Souls disappearing again, many people are very uneasy.

There might be slight information leaks, can’t be sure.

Externally, you’re definitely on the Dahlia.

You’re only related to those Lost Souls leaving the Southern Sea on the Dahlia.

Understand?”

”Yes, understand.” Wen Yan nodded; other times coming forward didn’t matter, but this time he truly didn’t want to.

Despite being involved in many cases, Scorching Sun Department keeps his information quite tight.

Normal intelligence, no matter how they check his records, he’s only an employee at Virtue City Funeral House, with an exam.

For stronger intelligence, after rounds, they’d only find out he’s a disciple from Fuyu Mountain, and a very typical Martial Artist, with good talent, fitting the stereotype about Fuyu Mountain disciples.

Unless something major leaks, outsiders, possibly knowing, would only stop there.
