I Am Your Natural Enemy

When he took the bus back to Virtue City, it was already afternoon. As he was nearing home, Wen Yan called Gauss.

”Finished work?”

”No, but today should be fine, I’ve already checked the rooms, I looked too, it seems there won’t be any patients passing away today.”

”It’s good if you’ve finished your work, come back then, I brought you a gift.”

”Oh, my Taiyi Savior Heavenly Master, surely it can’t be what I’m thinking?”

”Come back and see for yourself.”

After hanging up, Wen Yan was almost home. He walked in through the side gate of the community and followed the path back.

Then before reaching home, he saw Gauss flying back on a bamboo broomstick like a trail of fire and lightning.

Wen Yan was a bit startled.

”Uh, aren’t you being too conspicuous?”

”No worries, I’ve cast an invisibility spell on myself, normal people can’t see me. You don’t know how expensive taking a taxi has become, I’ve recently discovered my fares have gone up a whole yuan and five cents than before.”

”...”

Wen Yan didn’t know what to say for a moment. He opened his backpack and took out a ram skull with a pair of magnificent horns.

”Here you go, didn’t you want horns? This was the best I could find, and it looks quite nice.”

Gauss showed a surprised look, holding the ram skull and caressing the curves filled with both savage and artistic beauty of the horns.

”Oh my, did you really kill the Ram-horned Demon?

I’ve heard about him, he seems to be one of Valak’s generals, I’ve heard his horns have a unique charm, and it’s true.

But, Valak isn’t someone to be easily messed with, although he’s unlucky, he’s still quite powerful.”

”Actually, Valak told me about the Ram-horned Demon’s weakness.”

Gauss stroked the horns, grinning from ear to ear.

”So the Ram-horned Demon was a traitor, it’s great, such beautiful horns on his head were such a waste.

I don’t even know how to thank you, never thought you’d bring me the best gift.

Some Demon God’s horns aren’t even as good as these.”

Gauss looked at Wen Yan’s large backpack, there was a huge skull inside along with some smaller ones, which were left by the Evil Spirit Guardian.

”Do you have any other use for these skulls?”

”No, just trophies.”

”Then I’ll make something for you then.”

”What can you make?”

”Not sure yet, need to research first.”

”Alright, do as you see fit.”

Wen Yan left the skulls with Gauss too; Gauss wasn’t interested in those skulls but was interested in the pair of horns.

Wen Yan didn’t ask Gauss what he planned to do with them, letting him be.

Wen Yan got home, put things away, played with the dog, rubbed the cat/bird, pinched Little Zombie’s face, fed the Little Fire Seed, fed the horse, everything was as usual.

The only difference was that when Little Zombie saw his face, he scrunched up his little face, wanting to speak but hesitating.

After resting for a bit, in the evening after dinner, Wen Yan went out to walk the cat, carrying two boxes of fried chicken, he arrived at Wei Jing’s clinic.

Wei Jing was still seeing patients, Wen Yan put down the fried chicken, then casually took a disposable cup, and from the nearby thermal jug poured himself a cup of sour plum soup.

This time, the sour plum soup was even chilled, Wen Yan finished one cup and poured another, leaning on the chair contentedly and sipping slowly.

Wei Jing glanced at Wen Yan and couldn’t help but chuckle; Wen Yan really was shameless.

After sending the patient away, Wei Jing also unceremoniously washed his hands, sat down and started eating the fried chicken.

When Wen Yan raised his left hand, Wei Jing took a look at Wen Yan’s left middle finger.

”What’s that on your middle finger?”

Wen Yan looked at the nail on his middle finger.

”Oh, a gift from an elder.”

”I mean, what’s inside your finger?”

Wen Yan turned his palm over, looking at the fingertip of his middle finger, it seemed there was a bit of blood-colored glimmer under the skin.

He nearly forgot about this thing, back when he killed a rather strong sorcerer, as the sorcerer was dying, a bit of blood light resembling a living thing rushed into his body, intending to consume his blood and energy, but he suppressed it at his fingertip.

This thing posed no real threat; he nearly forgot about it.

”It’s a supernatural thing, seems to be alive.”

Wei Jing glanced at it and took out a lidded black stone mortar from the cabinet, then retrieved a very soft silver needle, pricking Wen Yan’s fingertip, and a bit of blood light flew out, landing in the mortar.

Wei Jing held the pestle, repeatedly pounding, then holding it to grind circles like he was crushing herbs.

”This should be a kind of Gu, also an ingredient needed more precisely by patients affected by it than what I found.”

After grinding for a while, Wei Jing opened the lid, the blood light inside disappeared, leaving only some dark red powder.

He looked at the mortar’s contents and nodded.

”Mm, quite a bit, just enough for all affected patients if used as medication.”

Wei Jing took out a small sealing bag, packed up the majority and handed it to Wen Yan, leaving only a barely visible trace clinging to the mortar.

”Take it, if you can analyze the ingredients, perhaps you can find something effective, most likely something related to blood diseases.”

”Alright.”

Wen Yan stored the small sealing bag safely; losing it meant it might never be found again.

Professional matters are best left to professionals; it’s great if it works, if not, that’s fine too.

After Wen Yan went home, he called the Grand Uncle Master, mentioned the matter, and asked them to contact people from Medicine King Mountain, as prior cooperation was pleasant, naturally, they’d look to them now.
