I Am Your Natural Enemy

Ji Shanyue’s attitude was very enthusiastic and also very sincere, and Wen Yan, after putting himself in his shoes for a moment, thought that if he were Ji Shanyue, when he didn’t know a lot of the inside story, even if he wanted to actually do something and show some attitude, there’s no way he’d lower himself so much in front of a junior.

Especially when he said he wasn’t from the Scorching Sun Department, Ji Shanyue was instead even more pleased.

Even if he wanted to build connections with Fuyu Mountain, was there really any need to go this far?

If he’d invited Qin Kun, that would be no problem; Qin Kun’s great reputation precedes him—he really has gone abroad and made a name for himself out there.

When Ji Shanyue praised people, what he emphasized was talent.

Praising someone’s good talent, to put it bluntly, means: you’re just talented, but your current strength is still not up to par.

When Wen Yan heard people talk about Senior Brother Qin, they all said Senior Brother Qin was strong, that Senior Brother Qin was definitely top three among Martial Artists of the same generation.

He had never heard anyone, when flattering Senior Brother Qin, latch on to his talent as the main talking point.

His thoughts turned quickly, and Wen Yan showed a slight smile and said,

”Minister Ji, you’re too polite. With such enthusiasm, I personally have no objections.

But Minister Ji should know, I’ve yet to officially come out of the sect; I don’t count as a Mountain Disciple who has gone down the mountain.

If I casually teach others and mislead someone’s Disciple, tarnishing my sect’s reputation, I’m afraid I can forget about leaving the mountain for the next ten years.

I have a senior brother, already in his thirties or forties, who was brought back to the sect for special training, and he still hasn’t been allowed out yet.

With that lesson in front of me, I have to go back and ask the elders of my sect face-to-face for their opinion first.

As a junior, I don’t dare make decisions on my own.”

When Ji Shanyue heard this, he was slightly disappointed, but there was nothing he could say.

He did understand some of the Divine Land’s rules; since ancient times, it has been Heaven, Earth, Sovereign, Parents, and Teacher.

Especially the Three Mountains and Five Ridges, they place extreme importance on their Mountain Sect’s reputation.

There’s a phrase called ”cleaning house”; when some criminal emerges from within a sect, the Scorching Sun Department has to notify that person’s sect first.

In most cases, the sect will clean house themselves.

By the same token, ”misleading a Disciple” is also a very serious charge; in this kind of situation, even if you don’t get expelled, at the very least you’ll get a vicious beating.

Ji Shanyue secretly felt regretful, but on the surface he still said he would await good news, and then listed out a whole pile of benefits.

Wen Yan’s response was still the same: that he was deeply moved, but he had to go back and ask the elders of his sect first.

Seeing that the time for the conference had arrived, Ji Shanyue could only temporarily give up.

Once they reached the venue, someone led Wen Yan to his seat.

Wen Yan glanced at where the seat was and felt a bit surprised inside: the first row, even if it was a non-central position in the first row.

Judging from past experience where the Divine Land sent juniors just to make an appearance, at most they’d be seated in the second row, and that was already for strong juniors like Qin Kun.

The first row was basically all leaders officially representing various regions, such as the actual Minister of the Oceanic Administration Department in the capital of the Nanyang Union.

Most importantly, those who could sit in the first row were basically people who could make decisions on behalf of the powers they represented.

Wen Yan looked to the side and saw Yan Zhikong sitting next to him; he also looked somewhat surprised. Neither of them were people who could make decisions.

It seemed that after the organizers and the people behind them had been replaced, their thinking and policy orientations had begun to change.

Wen Yan put on the simultaneous interpretation headset and blended into the scene.

The various speeches and reports were no different from conferences in the Divine Land; the real key points would certainly be exchanged privately before or after the meeting, and everyone was somewhat absent-minded anyway.

The only interesting part, in Wen Yan’s view, was that some of the presenters would cite typical cases, which were quite informative and also quite entertaining.

Like the speaker now, who was sharing a case that discussed resurrection.

They had previously encountered a Professional who could resurrect dead creatures, but the restrictions were extremely heavy, and there were only two confirmed successful cases.

One was a macaw this Professional had raised for forty years, and the other came from a mummy in his collection.

The macaw couldn’t be communicated with to obtain information, but that mummy could be confirmed to have regained consciousness and claimed to be an astronomer under a pharaoh.

It was just impossible to determine whether this consciousness came from the mummy itself, because after this mummy’s awakening, it could speak fluent English.

What was even more troublesome was that the mummy ran off, and that Professional who was said to be able to resurrect creatures also died.

So only cases like this could be openly talked about here.

Because basically no one believed them.

This case also wasn’t the main point the speaker wanted to make.

Wen Yan simply took it as a story, while quietly pondering the possibilities of these things.

Given the current situation, any kind of bizarre Professional could show up, and any kind of bizarre Professional Ability was possible.

Resurrecting creatures that were already dead was not necessarily impossible; it was just that the price might be extremely high.

Moreover, Wen Yan already knew of concrete examples.

Over in Europa, the Holy Knight profession naturally held a higher status than other professions, precisely because Holy Knights were believed to possibly have a resurrection ability.

No matter how slim the chance, at least there was a real hope.

Wen Yan treated this as an opportunity to broaden his horizons, listening to these people’s speeches, and as he listened, there was an uncle from the easternmost part of the Nanyang Union who brought up a matter.

He said they had been tracking and studying the increasingly numerous Exotic Beasts in the sea, searching for the root cause of these Exotic Beasts’ appearance.

They had found some spaces that might not exist in the present world.

Of course, this kind of thing had already been verified long ago.
