I Am Your Natural Enemy

”Oh, eating now?”

”Oh wow, you’re just in time, come on, come on.” Old Zhao was quick with his hands, swiftly grabbing a pair of unused chopsticks, while his other hand took an empty bowl, and he placed a few pieces of meat into it.

The five brothers all widened their eyes, the eldest opened his mouth and then closed it again, the second brother was about to say something when the eldest covered his mouth, the third brother stared at Old Zhao, and just as he opened his mouth, the second brother choked him by the neck.

The fourth brother just looked up when the third, realizing what was happening, swiftly scissored his legs around his neck.

And the fifth brother, upon seeing Wen Yan, grinned foolishly, and the fourth brother gave him a slap.

”Got any sense? Wen Yan’s here, and we can’t even eat white-cut chicken?”

”We have to give it, and it must be the best chicken tail and breast tail!”

The fifth brother, inexplicably slapped, was a little aggrieved.

”I didn’t say anything.”

”You were about to say something!”

”Totally, totally!”

”You’re so awful!”

”I always felt something was off with you, and now you even dare to not share the white-cut chicken! Terrifying!”

The remaining four brothers collectively scolded the fifth brother.

Wen Yan had just come upstairs and in the blink of an eye, saw the five brothers transformed into bizarre shapes, tangled together, one pulling another.

Wen Yan was unable to hold in his laughter, hastily waving at Old Zhao.

”No worries, I’ve already eaten, you guys go ahead, we’ll eat together another time, I’ve got something to do.”

Wen Yan quickly opened the door and left.

Seeing that Wen Yan wasn’t eating and had left, Old Zhao held the bowl in his hand, his tongue swiftly darted out to lick the few pieces of chicken in the bowl.

”Oh, you Old Zhao!”

”Didn’t expect that!”

”You, with those thick eyebrows and big eyes, Old Zhao!”

”You actually learned to be cunning!”

”You actually wanted to hog the best parts to yourself!”

The five brothers in unison, no longer arguing among themselves, stood up and yelled at Old Zhao in anger.

Old Zhao looked innocent.

”What’s the problem? Wen Yan isn’t eating, should I put the food back into the plate?”

”...” The five brothers went silent instantly. Indeed, one of their food rules was that anything taken out of the plate should never go back onto the plate.

Old Zhao grinned, and seeing the five brothers speechless, he immediately held the bowl, sat on one side, happily took a deep breath and you could see the piece of chicken swiftly shrinking in the bowl.

This white-cut chicken, the best part isn’t the drumstick.

The first best part is the chicken tail, the piece just beneath the chicken butt, fat and lean evenly distributed, with tender and delicate meat, if you like fresh flavors, this is the piece to eat.

The second best part is the tail of the chicken breast, where it is thin-skinned with meat, and there is cartilage, when eating, you must eat it with the skin, if you like texture and chewiness, then this is the best piece.

Of course, it’s not that other parts aren’t tasty, for barbecue, the best part would be the chicken butt, after proper cleaning, this is the most succulent part, a chicken only has one piece of this.

Just this one piece, no bones and no toughness, easy to chew and exceptionally tender, in the past, it was reserved for the elderly with poor teeth.

Whenever Old Zhao and the others ate white-cut chicken, trying to fight for those two best pieces was no easy task.

Today, the plate with two chickens, all wrapped up by Old Zhao alone.

When Old Zhao was almost done eating, the five brothers finally caught on, they had been led astray by Old Zhao.

”Old Zhao, you shameless bastard!”

”Hogging the food! May lightning strike you!”

”Can’t put it back in the plate, could at least share it and eat it!”

”Originally, today each person could have gotten a piece!”

”Hiss...”

Old Zhao set down the empty bowl, sniggered, patted his belly, looking more smug, and stretched out a hand.

”Five! Remember, I haven’t had the tastiest piece in five white-cut chickens in a row!”

”Beat the scoundrel!”

On the other side, Wen Yan opened the gate of his backyard, glancing back, the Zhao family’s house was filled with noises of clatter and clamor, lively indeed, he smiled, feeling that his own home also had a vibrant energy, just as lively.

He returned to the backyard, only to see Little Zombie suddenly appearing, blinking right into his arms, hugging his neck, hanging onto him.

Little Zombie lifted its head, saw Wen Yan’s face, instantly shocked, blinking and jumping out.

”What’s wrong?”

”Wah-wah-wah...” Little Zombie appeared utterly shocked.

Sparrow Cat flapped its wings and flew out, upon hearing Little Zombie’s words, its pupils instantly enlarged to their maximum.

”What?”

”What did the little one say?”

”She said why does your face have so many lip marks, each one different.” Sparrow Cat was stunned and didn’t dare approach Wen Yan: ”Did you fall into a den of female ghosts?”

”Ah?” Wen Yan was even more shocked than Little Zombie, he touched his face, went inside the house and looked in the mirror, he couldn’t see anything!

Is there something he can’t see?

But besides Little Zombie, no one else in the house saw the lip marks that Little Zombie mentioned.

Wen Yan felt relieved, given the rich variety of species in his house, if only Little Zombie could see it, then it’s no issue.

He couldn’t see it, and others couldn’t see it, then it’s as if it doesn’t exist.

Anyway, he believed that those lost souls surely wouldn’t harm him.

Wen Yan returned home, feeling completely relaxed, but elsewhere, no one could afford such ease.

The Nanyang case had just begun, with the numerous corpses buried at those locations only now starting to be excavated.

The budget was approved extraordinarily fast, with such work usually having a bunch of people skimming money, pressing the wage for the excavator drivers to three hundred a day, those guys dared to quote three thousand.

But this time, nobody dared to pocket this money; the hastily approved wage of three thousand a day was fully distributed.
