I Am Your Natural Enemy

He took out his phone again, glanced at the case file, and noted that the restroom door of the robbed gold store had the same kind of lock.

No wonder the guy managed to disappear from a restroom.

Generally, door locks have separate keyholes and doorknobs; without a key, no one would normally fiddle with the keyhole.

This guy probably thought he could only teleport from a restroom.

Wen Yan looked once more at the person lying on the ground; the guy was still ranting.

”What are you doing! Let me go, I’m going to sue you!”

Wen Yan waved his hand, and the gray cloth blocked the man’s mouth.

Wen Yan stared intently at the man on the ground for a while, and the hint seemed to appear reluctantly.

”Thief.”

”Commonly referred to as a pickpocket or robber, besides locksmiths and similar professions, it is one of the professions that can master unlocking skills and utilize door keys.”

And that’s it; just a brief introduction, without any follow-up hints, let alone the ”none” for Temporary Ability.

Wen Yan sighed, feeling somewhat disappointed.

”Where did you get this key?”

The other party remained silent.

”Say what you want, or keep quiet.”

Wen Yan pulled out his phone and called the Scorching Sun Department, telling them to come and take the person away.

Within a minute, several field agents entered and removed the person.

After informing the agents that the guy might know how to unlock things, Wen Yan left directly; he couldn’t be bothered wasting time with such a person. Better to let professionals handle the interrogation and just get the result.

He checked the time; during broad daylight, Feng Wei and his team might even be asleep. Wen Yan didn’t bother calling them, opting to take the high-speed train back to Nanwu County.

When he reached Nanwu County and arrived at the Yu State Scorching Sun Department, Feng Yao had already obtained the confession.

Wen Yan casually tossed the bag of precious metal jewelry he had picked up from the sea onto the table and looked over the confession, clicking his tongue.

”The Regret Chair really works wonders.”

The confession stated that this guy, upon unlocking his storage cabinet yesterday, discovered that when the cabinet door was opened, the other side led to his home’s restroom.

He was startled initially, but after trying several times, found that the key could also open others’ cabinets, and even that cross-shaped key could fit into flat keyholes and unlock locks.

He tried several times; on one occasion, opening the door revealed a restroom in a Yu State mall opposite.

He couldn’t resist the greed in his heart any longer.

Thinking he had come upon a great opportunity, and his finances were tight, he donned a motorcycle helmet and swept through a gold store he had visited before.

He thought nobody would suspect him with this key, after all, he was in Southern Sea County, providing a solid alibi.

Unexpectedly, he was captured the very next day.

The guy had previous records of theft in Nanwu County but only received security punishment, not too severe.

Later, he was introduced to work as a Potential Supervisor in Southern Sea County, which was basically akin to a tour guide or accompanying tourists, completely different from a diving instructor.

His company was a sham, just winging it as long as no problems arose.

Wen Yan roughly went through the confession, then turned to Feng Yao.

”Are the other cases settled?”

”Some are; some are still ongoing.

Even if not completed, we can basically confirm that their obtained abilities or wondrous items occurred after your call with me.”

”Yeah, just after you threw up.”

Feng Yao’s face darkened as he continued.

”Currently, the most powerful thing seems to be the key you acquired.

As for others, whether wondrous items or personal abilities, they are quite mediocre.

Regarding this unlocking skill, frankly, some top-notch locksmiths without theatrics or stalling demonstrate abilities superior to these guys’, and much stronger.

Their abilities are quite limited; some locks they can’t open.

Sometimes they can open a lock, other times they can’t.

Locks with very high security levels are beyond their ability to open.

Those relying purely on wondrous items are actually worse.

But a common point is that they weren’t entirely unfamiliar before.

Some small-time thieves might lack skills but have studied.

Some non-thieves also have prior experience.

For instance, one guy couldn’t open a door once and, deterred by expensive locksmith fees, learned from a video to unlock from the peephole.

Like the guy you caught, already a minor thief with some abilities; he claims that after yesterday, he seemed to gain a miraculous sixth sense even without wondrous items.

He counts as a Professional; holding a wondrous item, the only one among so many people.”

”This counts as a Professional?”

”Anything strange counts; it’s not only those exceptionally strong that qualify. Even that little thief in Virtue City, with such poor skills, is considered a Professional.”

”Alright, anything else for me?”

Wen Yan casually handed the unlocking key to Feng Yao; this key, though sounding powerful, required a related Professional as a prerequisite to use.

He tried it himself; it proved useless in his hands.

He already had shelves; they were much more useful than this key.

”Nothing much left, just the remaining work for the Scorching Sun Department.

There might be more people affected, but no new crimes have surfaced.

We’ve focused on the small-time thieves, locksmiths.”

Wen Yan waved his hand and turned to leave.
