High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2030: Chapter 251: Countdown

”Take it easy, gentlemen, it’s just a hunting competition.”

The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team consoled today’s laborer, encouragingly saying, ”The school just wants to help us gain a deeper understanding of the world outside the Ivory Tower...”

”Learning magic knowledge we haven’t encountered is helpful, sharing our understanding of rules is also helpful.” The Blood Werewolf lazily raised a hand and flicked away a Ghoul’s eyeball that rolled to his foot: ”As for these things... they’re purely ideas thought up by those bigwigs in the student council, they don’t help us at all!”

”Well, you can’t say there’s no help at all... at least it has some effect in exercising practical ability.” Zhang Ji Xin shook his head, raised a small cup of pale blue liquid and asked, ”Another round?”

What he held was the Magic Potion that Xiao Xiao had just concocted.

”No, thank you.” Dylan had regained some of the Moonlight Nobles’ manners: ”The Doctor’s potion is very potent, my whole jaw is numb now...”

”And you can still talk?” Xiao Xiao glanced at him.

”It’s not me talking, it’s my conscience.” Mister Blood Werewolf answered without changing expression, seamlessly shifting the topic to Zheng Qing: ”...What do you want to do?”

The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team was holding his Remington Shotgun with ’imprints’, aiming here and there in the distance, looking like he was about to fire in the next second.

”I want to see if those tombstones are really that sturdy.” Zheng Qing squinted an eye and answered honestly.

”Ordinary bullets are likely ineffective,” the red-faced male wizard who had punched the tombstones earlier had some authority on this matter, he rubbed his chin and uncertainly said, ”...as for special bullets... I seem to recall the Hunting Committee prohibited your use?”

A crisp gunshot answered him.

A streak of slightly red light flashed from the gun muzzle and fell onto a distant tall tombstone, making a dull crash as if a giant rock had struck the big bronze bell at Hanshan Temple, a wave of dust erupted from the ground, and magic ripples that were visible to the naked eye lingered in the air.

Phew!

The young cost student exhaled deeply before responding: ”No violation, I used ordinary evil-repelling bullets... doesn’t seem to have any effect.”

The tombstone remained unmoved under the Warlock’s bullet attack.

Zheng Qing put down his gun, just about to sit down for a rest, when Xiao Xiao beside him suddenly straightened up holding the Crystal Ball: ”Wow... can’t say it’s ineffective... stirring a hornet’s nest probably looks like this.”

The crystal ball in his arms shone with a dazzling red light, Zheng Qing knew each bit of that red light represented a Ghoul, and right now, those red lights were already connected into a whole.

Looking up, the tombstone he had just hit seemed to have swollen slightly, and the sallow cave beneath, stained pitch black by the foul blood of the Ghouls, looked like opened black throats or black veins full of foul air.

At this moment, groups of Ghouls surged out like tide from those opened black throats, their jabbering hoarse screams overlapped into one, echoing throughout the hunting ground.

No need for Zheng Qing to give orders, the entire hunting team, as if their tails were on fire, suddenly sprang into action, going from absolute stillness to extreme movement in an instant.

This time, Blue Bird and Zhang Ji Xin did not choose to leave the formation alone to hunt down Ghouls, but followed Zheng Qing’s gesture, standing honestly in their positions, deploying a standard Four-Phases Battle Formation.

Dylan remained protected at the center of the formation, controlling his corpse group, and faced forward first.

Five hundred against two thousand forty-eight.

Even without accounting for the nearly fifty extra ’overheads,’ there was a hopeless disparity between both sides. This disparity showed vividly within three minutes of the corpse group and the Ghouls making contact.

Grouped Ghouls no longer needed any tactics or skills, simply swarming forward, randomly scratching and biting, easily tearing apart the corpse group blocking their path.

”’Join the hunting team,’ my elders said to me,”

Mister Blood Werewolf waved his arms numbly, his eyes not fixed on his corpse group but gazing at the sky, his gaze seeming somewhat hollow: ”’Easily gain fame and fortune!’”

He mimicked the tone of his predecessors persuading him, then turned sharply, angrily saying: ”...but they never mentioned hunters having to deal with these smelly, sticky monsters like janitors... can you believe it? A vampire like me is now actually beginning to sweat!”

”That’s your werewolf part sweating.” The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team, after emptying the bullet clip, managed to awkwardly turn back and console his hardest-working companion.

”Endlessly! Endlessly!”

Mister Blood Werewolf’s tone grew more irritable from the consolation: ”I’ve lost more than half of my kin... we must retreat, or change tactics!”

”I’m out of talisman papers!” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, supplementing, ”But there are still some Array Plates left, we can set up a Protect Legal Formation...”

”My magic is almost exhausted too!” Zhang Ji Xin tugged at his boxing gloves and exhaled a white ribbon.

Blue Bird didn’t speak, but he had already pulled out a small whetstone and was meticulously sharpening the edge of his longsword.

Zheng Qing bit his teeth, a trace of ruthlessness appearing on his face.

”Abandon those corpses!”

He gestured for Dylan to switch places, simultaneously stuffing a law book into his arms, wielding two charm guns viciously: ”Just a bunch of stinkbugs! No matter how many come, they’re nothing but creaky beans in a mill! ... Let’s see if they are tougher, or our magic sharper! ... Doctor, set up the formation! Everyone else, switch to pentagram formation! Narrow the contact surface... we’ll wear them down bit by bit!”

This tactical change was extremely timely.

The twelfth wave attack had a total of two thousand forty-eight Ghouls— theoretically this was the number, but the young wizards were already too busy to verify closely—before truly engaging closely, no less than a quarter were consumed by Dylan’s corpse group.

The remaining more than fifteen hundred Ghouls blanketing the hunting ground were still densely packed.

Only with the Protect Legal Formation outside the Absolution Hunting Team and the Battle Formation inside, especially after the Absolution Hunting Team narrowed the formation, could only a small portion of the Ghouls surging from all sides confront the wizards directly.

Xiao Xiao and Zheng Qing alternately released Chaos Spell and Soft Leg Curse—these two commonly used spell had very high elasticity, allowing them to prepare in a very short time—creating a broad magic quagmire in front of the formation;

Zhang Ji Xin, like a rock, punched back those Ghouls who passed through the spell quagmire;

Blue Bird and Dylan thus shuttled between the rock and the quagmire, their forms were ghost-like, resembling spears and stingers, harvesting Ghoul lives one after another.
