High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2027: Chapter 248: Nearly 1 to 1

The battle between the dead ghouls and the living ones wasn’t as intense and exhilarating as imagined.

Zheng Qing watched those gaunt creatures with bare bodies, trudging through the grey dust of the hunting ground, like a group of old men fighting in slow motion, their movements sluggish and awkward.

They were making their own peculiar jibber-jabber sounds unique to Dreamland Ghouls, shoving and cursing each other, their rubber-like flesh showing great resilience under the claws and fangs of their peers, a stench mixed with the smell of corpses spreading over the entire hunting ground. For a moment, Zheng Qing felt that the real weapon of the ghouls was not their claws, but the aura they emitted.

”I’m a Dark Yellow Horse!”

”I’m a Horse Huan Hui Tui!”

”I’m a Horse Tu Yi!”

Zheng Qing, Xiao Xiao, and Zhang Ji Xin protected Mister Blood Werewolf controlling the zombie horde with the Little Three Talents Formation, while raising their Law books, reciting the enhanced version of ’Soft Leg Curse’ in a rhythmic and orderly manner, releasing it onto the newly arriving prey.

The pale yellow spell light interlocked layer upon layer, falling down heavily, many ghouls failed to evade and directly collapsed into the yellow dust, causing significant trouble for their companions.

”The wolf on its hind legs, struggles with its tail!”

The successive ’Chaos Spell’ further aggravated their difficulties, a large number of ghouls zigzagged around like headless flies, occasionally some unlucky ones tripped over their own feet, toppling over spectacularly.

The successive spell attacks quickly disrupted the ghouls’ simple tactical organization, in contrast, possessing a unified ’brain’, the wizard-controlled zombie horde easily divided the chaotic ghoul groups into dozens of parts, stripping away their greatest advantage.

”I think we might have made a small mistake.” Xiao Xiao suddenly spoke, stopping the ongoing Chaos Spell and putting away the Law book.

”What?”

The young student warily watched the battlefield and replied while silently calculating the time in his mind. According to previous calculations, the tenth batch of ghouls should consist of five hundred and twelve heads, Zheng Qing didn’t deliberately count—he actually didn’t have time to count them slowly—while the ghoul bodies controlled by Dylan totaled five hundred and eleven pieces.

Almost one to one.

The extra one, upon entering, was swiftly crushed into its heart by the Blue Bird hunting around the hunting ground, falling into the yellow dust. If it weren’t for Dylan’s limited control, he might have been able to hold out alone until the end of today’s hunting competition with the growing number of subordinates.

”The trouble caused by the Soft Leg Curse might be smaller than we anticipated.”

Opening his mouth was Zhang Ji Xin, who always showed a surprising sharpness on the hunting ground, contrasting with his usually sloppy demeanor: ”...If you pay a little attention, you’ll notice the ghouls crawl much more nimbly than they walk.”

”I overlooked that point.”

Xiao Xiao followed with an analysis: ”Dreamland ghouls live year-round in underground tunnels; they spend much more time in tomb passages in their lifetime than walking on two legs.”

No further explanation was needed from his companions; Zheng Qing was slightly more observant and saw a few ghouls that had collapsed into the yellow dust twisting their bodies, crawling quickly with agility far beyond their previous speed in the chaotic hunting ground.

Not only the wizards noticed this.

Soon, more and more ghouls deliberately fell to the ground, attacking the lower parts of the zombie horde, Dylan’s ’army’ visibly incurring damage.

”Wind Spell, Triple Stage!”

Zheng Qing didn’t hesitate, immediately giving orders while raising his Law book: ”The wind does not rise! The end of the wind and storm!”

”The wind does not drift! The end of the wind and smog!” Xiao Xiao unfolded his newly compiled bamboo slip Law book, easily keeping up with his captain’s rhythm.

The red-faced male wizard was slightly delayed by a few seconds, but because there was a ready-made spell formula, this delay was hardly noticeable: ”Who is returning to the west? The end of the wind and haze!”

Gusts of wind emerged from the void, intertwined and frolic, swiftly gathering into a huge storm, fiercely sweeping across the hunting ground, stirring up thick yellow dust from the ground, lifting the turbid particles. In a very short time, the originally open-viewed hunting ground became a chaotic whirlwind, making anything past three to five meters indiscernible.

”Owning the four directions, clearly visible!”

Zheng Qing first supplemented with a Surveillance Curse, naked eyeballs appeared out of nowhere within the Little Three Talents Formation, filtering through the yellow dust, projecting every detail across the hunting ground.

Immediately following, he issued the third command in a short time: ”Languid Curse, Triple Stage!...Ready...Walk Hesitant, central wavering!”

”Walk Hesitant, central like drunk!”

”Walk Hesitant, central like choking!”

Xiao Xiao and Zhang Ji Xin simultaneously released the additional parts of this spell, faintly red spell light penetrated into the dust lifted by the wind, permeating like water, and within the Surveillance Curse, one could very clearly see that the ghouls, already losing their sense of direction in the strong wind, showed a dazed expression when invaded by the new spell light. Some shrank into a ball on the spot, some let out pretentious roars, and some even raised their claws intending to crawl forward only to roll over as if drunk.

With the help of the wizards, the zombie horde gradually regained the upper hand.

”It’s enough.”

The Mister Blood Werewolf, who had long been silent, opened his eyes, his voice slightly weary: ”Everyone withdraw your spells... There might be a few stragglers, leave them to the swordsman.”

Zheng Qing nodded slightly, retrieving a Green Bird Symbol from the grey cloth bag, muttering a few words, and tossing it backwards.

A streak of green light flashed and disappeared into the yellow world. Moments later, a familiar whistle sounded from the depths of the yellow dust, indicating the Blue Bird had received the transmission.

”How long has it been?”

The young student finally relaxed, feeling somewhat dizzy from the short-term extensive use of magic power, so he simply plopped onto the ground.

Others also took the opportunity to regulate their magic power.

”An hour, forty-seven minutes, and thirty-six seconds.”

Doctor Xiao swiftly blending the magic potion with pre-prepared ingredients, gave a precise number: ”The initial rounds had intervals of one to five minutes, but as time progressed and the hunting tide’s size increased, the intervals gradually lengthened... On average, the interval between each hunting tide is about ten minutes... Before it ends, there should be three to four more rounds.”

Although the wooden puppets repeatedly emphasized before the competition that the longer they persisted, the higher the odds of winning, it didn’t mean the hunting competition’s duration would extend indefinitely. Considering attending classes the next day and the young wizards’ mental endurance, the selection competition from the tenth to the fifteenth day, each night would start at nine PM and conclude at midnight, lasting three hours.

The participating hunting team only needed to persist for as long as possible during these three hours.

But judging by the current situation, this is very challenging.
