High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2016: Chapter 237: I’m Still Kind of Impressive

Zheng Qing had to admit that even if the members of the Seven Sins weren’t the ’elect’ of those great devils, they naturally possessed some traits similar to the devils.

For example, the first bat spirit, with eyes seemingly on top of its head, had a dismissive and arrogant attitude towards the black cat, which was quite impressive; and the second cat lady who, without a sound, set a trap, plunging the black cat into a whirlpool of jealousy while she gleefully enjoyed an interspecies soap opera.

And then there’s the wild wolf tonight, provoking the black cat with just a few words, indeed the kind of thing ’Wrath’ would do.

”Do you want to fight?”

The black cat tugged at its ear, lowered its tail, and looked at the wizard code-named ’Samael’ with a dangerous glare, a threatening sound coming from its throat.

Along with the growl of the Lord of the Cat Fruit Tree, the hundreds of yellow-green eyes of the quiet large tree behind it ’opened’ once again, and the night breeze playfully swept by, swaying the thick branches in the dark, harmonizing with the rising and falling cat cries, and the eerie atmosphere thickened suddenly.

”I must remind you,” the Sin Bearer flashed away from the Cat Fruit Tree to another plane tree, squatting on a branch growing horizontally, looking at Samael: ”... it’s not a wise move to oppose this cat in its own domain.”

”Understandable.”

The wizard in the wolf-head mask squinted, watching the eyes on the Cat Fruit Tree, cautiously stepping back two steps, and sneered a few times: ”Winning is only winning a few cats; losing, you’re not even as good as a cat... anyone with a brain wouldn’t choose this method.”

This sounded somewhat reasonable, but in the ears of the black cat, it felt somewhat unpleasant.

”Less nonsense!”

It rudely interrupted Samael’s sneer, gruffly said: ”What’s the assessment you prepared today? Finish quickly, I still have to go back to the tree and bask in the moonlight!”

Samael did not immediately answer but took a few more steps back.

Now, he was more than ten meters away from the black cat.

Then he raised his hand, adjusted the mask on his face, and spoke in the same suppressed voice he used initially: ”Combat is the highest form and ultimate means of expressing rage... so today’s assessment is simple, fight me, win, and you pass the assessment; lose, and let that ’big duck egg’ find a new successor.”

The black cat tilted its head and sized him up a few times.

”Didn’t you say the identities of everyone in the Seven Sins are unknown to each other?” It turned to look at the Sin Bearer, a few notes of triumph in its tone: ”I bet this wild wolf is from Starry Sky Academy!”

”Bet on what?”

The Sin Bearer lightly jumped down from the tree, joyfully responding: ”From credits to jade coins, from vampire blood to ghost essence, from zombies to mummies, from voodoo dolls to Gumanthong... no limits, you can bet anything!”

The black cat stared blankly at that ’big duck egg’, listening to those increasingly terrifying terms, feeling that it might have made the wrong decision.

But in life, how can you not dip into the dark corners a bit?

”You think because I chose ’combat’, I must be from Starry Sky Academy?” Samael examined the black cat, his suppressed voice adding a touch of mockery: ”I’d like to remind you, every academy’s students are never limited to only one trait...”

The black cat suddenly realized.

Just like Astronomy Class 08-1, Matthew Karen and Jiang Yu, wizards from noble families also fit in Alpha Academy; Xiao Xiao, devoted to records, could enter Atlas; and classmate Nicholas, a super boss who transferred through three academies consecutively.

Thinking of this, it couldn’t help but chuckle dryly, avoiding the Sin Bearer’s eager face: ”I’m not betting... gambling violates school rules... what about the battle? Where do we go? Are there any restrictions?”

It turned to look at Samael.

The wizard in the wolf-head mask chuckled, patted the law book hanging at his waist: ”Time is now, place is right here, no restrictions on combat methods, but apart from the law book, using any other special magic items is prohibited, like a large number of Fulu, or a powerful charm gun, etc... Hmm, your situation is special, you can let Lord Kannai decide additional conditions.”

His ’special situation’ referred to the black cat not having hands, unable to use the law book.

Samael and the black cat both turned to the Sin Bearer, as the little gambling lost its excitement; the Sin Bearer seemed a bit disinterested, waving his hand in boredom: ”There’s only one law book left, what more can be banned?... Since a cat wants to be the Sin Bearer of the Seven Sins, it naturally needs to have the corresponding awareness.”

”I don’t care if you use the law book or not.”

The black cat coarsely interjected, then looked around up and down, left and right nervously, and then showed a bit of unease, hesitantly said: ”The only problem is... right here? I mean, it’s not far from Lin Zhong Lake, if we fight here, won’t we disturb the night patrol or the School Guardian Array? I’m not bragging... I’m actually sort of impressive... if I end up killing you, or ruining the flowers and plants around, the school would get me in trouble! My whole family of cats is here, the black cat runs, but the white cat can’t run...”

The Sin Bearer clutched his belly and laughed maniacally.

”From my point of view alone, this cat is absolutely qualified.” He couldn’t help but wipe tears from laughter, then realized that the white mask left no eyeholes, and regretfully lowered his hand: ”... only you, Samael, could say such annoying words.”

The wizard in the wolf-head mask exuded a gloomy aura, remaining silent.

After a while, he answered hoarsely, rigidly: ”Don’t worry about damaging the surroundings, I’ve already set up a safety barrier beforehand... as for how impressive you are... I’ll just stand here, unmoving, and take your three attacks... then let our judge determine who wins and who loses!”

He glanced at the wizard in the white mask, the Sin Bearer stopped laughing, adjusted his collar, trying to assume a fair demeanor.

The black cat was indifferent, instead somewhat delighted: ”Any three attacks?”

”Any three.” Samael replied proudly.

”You won’t move?”

”Not a move!”

”Not moving at all is a turtle.” The black cat quipped impulsively, then came to its senses, with a full face of apology, supplemented: ”I didn’t mean it like that, I meant... it’s what you said... I haven’t met such a dumb opponent in a long while... if I kill him, will the school give me trouble?”

The last sentence was directed at the Sin Bearer in inquiry.

The wizard in the white mask looked at the entirely sincere black cat, his aura gradually sinking a bit, after a while, he answered softly: ”Try not to kill... or else it’ll be a hassle for everyone.”

The black cat agreed, letting out a disappointed sigh.
