High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2008: Chapter 229: Friday Night

”...’The Absolution Hunting Team is an outstanding team,’ praised the new Lei Zhe of the renowned student organization ”Sacred Will” at First University to our reporter, ’They were champions of the last freshman championship, and they gained much in last year’s Winter Hunting organized by the school... Of course, more importantly, to my knowledge, the Absolution Hunting Team participated in the war that erupted at the end of last semester in Black Prison, which is a unique experience among all student hunting teams... I guess Absolution might have forged a bond with Councilor Su during that war...”

Xin Fat Man held the campus newspaper and loudly read the brand new front-page article with his name to his companions, his face glowing, seemingly like Zhang Ji Xin’s brother.

”Did he interview your brother too?” Zheng Qing leaned over to the red-faced male wizard’s ear and asked quietly, ”I thought he just had a chat with a few of us.”

Zhang Ji Xin smirked and commented, ”If he had the chance, he would stuff every somewhat famous wizard he knew into this report... like Sister Korma, and the Wandering Wizard.”

The young funded student expressed admiration.

In this matter, the Fat Wizard was truly diligent.

Speaking of diligence, the warlock raised his head and looked around, seeing a blurry sight. It was Friday night at nine, early in the solar calendar, yet late in the lunar calendar, so the moon in the night sky was in a not-quite-round state, like a glowing potato.

Tonight, the Absolution Hunting Team and their guiding teacher were supposed to meet formally for the first time, yet these young wizards had been waiting on the edge of the hunting ground for nearly half an hour, but the prominent Councilor was nowhere to be seen.

In stark contrast to Xin Fat Man’s diligence.

Except for Zheng Qing, it seemed that no one at the scene showed even a bit of annoyance at Su Shijun’s tardiness; instead, everyone exhibited great tolerance and patience.

Including the usually rowdy Li Meng.

”Councilor Su must be held up by something more important, don’t bother people randomly!” When Zheng Qing tried to ask if everyone wanted to hurry him, the Little Witch was the first to jump in with a strong objection, ”Or do you want to secretly collect some more paper cranes from Councilor Su and hide them in your drawer?”

These words were quite accusatory.

Feeling the suspicious and cautious glances from around him, the captain of the Absolution Hunting Team quickly clasped his hands, promptly abandoning that terrible idea.

”You didn’t schedule her for self-study today, and let her come along, that’s really surprising.” Zheng Qing turned to the other side and teased Jiang Yu with a smile.

The witch silently glanced at him, ”What’s so surprising about that, Meng Meng has always been fond of Councilor Su, even if you locked her in Black Prison tonight, she’d find a way to sneak out... Comparatively, you getting Su Shijun to appear in a competition like this is more shocking.”

These words sounded a bit off.

The young man pondered for a moment, and softly argued, ”I didn’t plan to collect extra paper cranes privately.”

”Is it necessary?” The girl raised her eyebrows, seemingly want to say more but eventually said nothing, just grumbled ’I’ll go check the preparation of training supplies,’ and then left straight away.

Zheng Qing was about to follow but was held back by another voice.

”Captain! Check if my bow tie is crooked?”

Student Dylan silently floated in front of Zheng Qing, blocking the young man’s view, muttering to himself, ”...Just now the Blue Bird asked me to hold the purple mink for a while, that little thing’s tail kept wrapping around my neck... Since then, I’ve felt the bow tie was crooked and haven’t been able to adjust it properly.”

While speaking, he continued to tilt his chin, slowly fiddling with the fabric tie on his neck.

Zheng Qing glanced at Mister Wolfman’s pale, bloodless face, felt like he had plastered a pound of powder on his face, a little impatient yet still patiently sighed, ”It looks fine to me... Close enough is good enough... This late at night, no one will care if the string on your neck is off by few fractions of a second. How did you tie it before?”

”In the dormitory before, with the help of the dressing mirror.” Dylan gave his captain a dissatisfied look, ”If you don’t want to help, just say so... You know nothing about manners!”

With that, his robe fluttered and he silently floated towards Jiang Yu’s direction.

The young funded student was speechless, not knowing why an unnoticeably crooked bow tie was linked to manners. Intent on following Mister Wolfman over, yet once again his path was obstructed.

”What’s up!” Looking at the Fat Wizard standing in his way, Zheng Qing appeared somewhat irritable.

”You haven’t evaluated how well I’ve written this report.” The Fat Wizard shook the newspaper in his hand, rattling it loudly, completely oblivious to the warlock’s agitation, sounding full of confidence, ”The editorial department told me this afternoon that this newspaper has already printed two extra editions today... I want to compete for this year’s ’Golden Feather Pen’ with this report, do you think it’s feasible?”

’Golden Feather Pen’ is a highly regarded award for journalists in the wizarding world, targeting the author of the most influential report within the year.

Whether it’s ’the whole wizard world’ or ’most influential’, Zheng Qing felt that the Fat Wizard’s article was still a bit distant from that – compared to it, last year’s investigative report on Northern District Wizard was more influential, in light of Korma’s promotion to Big Wizard and the emergence of Northern District Wizard.

”I’m not your Senior Linda, what good is asking me about this?” The young funded student stomped his feet impatiently, bluntly critiquing, ”Stepping back... Your article is full of praises, excellent for advertorial or promotion, but using it to win the Golden Feather Pen, I think it’s a stretch.”

These words dampened the sparkle on the Fat Wizard’s face a bit.

Zheng Qing felt a bit regretful, patiently adding two more lines, ”Did you see the ’Beta Town Post’ that came with the campus newspaper? It doesn’t outright attack Absolution, but it mentions the ’noise’ at the scene when Absolution won the championship at last year’s freshman tournament and questions why a student hunting team would appear in the dangerous Black Prison Battlefield... This challenging authority voice is something the Golden Feather Pen appreciates... I have some matters to attend, these words I heard from Doctor, you can talk more with him.”

With that, the warlock pushed the Fat Wizard, trying to direct him to Xiao Xiao.

Just then, a blue bird pierced through the night, flapped its wings landing on his shoulder, politely reminded him with a pleasant voice by his ear, ”Sorry, there was a small accident in the lab... might be a few minutes late... be there soon.”

The voice was Su Shijun’s.

In the tranquil night, it was quite clear.

The young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team collectively turned to their captain, all showing envious expressions. Even if they didn’t see Su Shijun in person tonight, hearing her apologize like this wouldn’t be a wasted trip.
