High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2009: Chapter 230: Meeting

”Qingniaoxianshu” is a more advanced magic communication method compared to Paper Crane, which Zheng Qing once saw on the Black Prison Battlefield. Unlike Paper Crane, the Qingniaoxianshu cannot turn into an ordinary letter after communication; it transforms into a burst of blue flame.

This is not only an effective method of secrecy but also an instant ”receipt” technique—when the Qingniaoxianshu turns into flames, the wizard who released it can easily know from the flames whether the message was heard by the recipient or if something went wrong along the way.

Noticing the envious glances around him, Zheng Qing instead breathed a sigh of relief.

”See, I don’t get letters from Su Shijun either.” He smiled exaggeratedly and quietly glanced at Jiang Yu standing at the edge of the hunting team.

The witch was seriously organizing the magic potions and the Bo Fu Clan’s blood that might be used during tonight’s training session, seemingly unaware of the small commotion here.

The boy breathed a small sigh of relief, clapped his hands, and shouted: ”Since Su Councilor will be arriving later, let’s do two runs of the Bo Fu Clan’s battle array in advance... Let the councilor see your solid basic skills.”

”Makes sense.” Zhang Ji Xin nodded in approval, rare praise coming from him: ”On the hunting ground, boring sweat is far more convincing than pale words!”

”What about my bowtie?” Dylan seemed a bit hesitant, wanting to make an impression in front of Su Shijun but also not wanting to mess up his appearance and clean hunting clothes.

The fat wizard stood by with his arms crossed, thoughtfully saying: ”I think Su Councilor should be accustomed to those impeccably dressed and polite Moonlight Nobles... so when a sweaty, disheveled, panting Blood Werewolf stands in front of her, it would surely leave a deep impression.”

”Hmm, makes some sense.” Dylan was somewhat interested but also a bit troubled: ”But my physique is rather special, it’s hard for me to sweat a lot...”

”Whether you sweat or not, what does that have to do with what I’m saying?” The fat wizard looked at Mister Wolfman with a speechless expression.

Dylan blinked: ”But you just said...”

”Focus! You need to grasp the key points when others are speaking!” Xin Fat Man took a deep breath, a blue hue flashing across his face: ”Was I talking about you sweating or not?”

”I just wanted to correct it; I can’t achieve a sweating level.” Dylan cautiously reminded, taking out a handkerchief and pretending to wipe sweat: ”... Really, I can’t.”

The fat wizard took another deep breath, his entire body expanding slightly, the moonlight casting a faint blue glow on him.

”Just joking, just a joke.” Mister Wolfman stopped while he was ahead, laughing dryly and waving frantically: ”I get it, it’s just to create a contrast... whether you sweat or not is not the point, the point is the contrast!”

”You two, hurry into the array!”

The principal hunter of the Absolution Hunting Team held the array diagram in his arms, frowning as he scolded: ”Everyone else is already in position... For the first round, let Fatty be the array eye, acting as the principal hunter, I’ll take the left auxiliary position, Doctor will be Right Aide, Swordsman will seek the hunting position, Gentleman will take the roaming hunting position, and Monitor and Captain take the substitute positions. Any other questions?”

There was a scattered chorus of ”no” from around.

”What about me?” Li Meng tiptoed, eagerly raising her arm.

”You?” The red-faced male wizard raised an eyebrow, glanced at the little witch, then at Jiang Yu before finally sighing, considering his answer: ”Hmm, you and Lin Guo can just act as supervisors... yes, supervise, see who in the hunting array is not performing properly, and take notes... here are a feather pen and parchment for recording, which can be reimbursed later...”

...

...

When Su Shijun arrived at the hunting ground, the Absolution Hunting Team’s training session was already halfway through.

A pale blue giant over a dozen meters tall was running, jumping, and rolling in the spacious hunting ground. Occasionally, it would pull up a big tree, strip the branches and leaves from the trunk, and wave it energetically, full of momentum.

”You performed better than I expected.” The Upper House Member of the Moon Council appeared silently behind Zheng Qing and chuckled softly: ”... Seems like, as your mentor, there’s nothing more I can teach you.”

The warlock was startled by the sudden voice, instinctively drawing the Colt silver python hanging at his waist, the magazine rotating with a crisp clatter, clear in the quiet night.

”Gave me a scare!” Zheng Qing exhaled and simultaneously realized the situation he was in, recognizing his inappropriate attitude, quickly trying to recover: ”You... you’ve arrived?”

”Weren’t you the one who called me here?” Su Shijun looked at him with a half-smile, tilting her head slightly, her eyes falling on the silver charm gun.

She wore a very ordinary black robe today, with a wide waistband, the collar and cuffs edged in red, her ponytail casually tied and tucked into the wide hood.

Zheng Qing quickly put away his charm gun, discreetly tucking it back into the grey cloth bag. In his memory, this was the first time he had seen Su Shijun with a ponytail.

He couldn’t help but want to look back at another ponytailed witch next to him, but the chilly breeze of late autumn stirred a fine layer of goosebumps, forcing him to stop this foolish thought.

”Please, I invited you, not called.”

The warlock softly corrected Su Shijun’s word choice and then finally mustered the courage to look back at Jiang Yu, tentatively asking: ”Cough... should we gather everyone for Su Councilor’s briefing?”

Jiang Yu held her gaze down, her expression indifferent: ”You’re the captain.”

Zheng Qing looked back imploringly at Su Shijun but found that the Upper House Member of the Moon Council was intently gazing at the sky, the moon resembling a potato, seemingly very interested in today’s lunar phase.

Resignedly, he tugged at his collar and was about to shout to gather his companions when out of nowhere came Li Meng’s scream: ”Ah! Su Shijun!”

This scream was like a rooster crowing, lighting up the entire hunting ground for an instant—more accurately, the giant of the Bo Fu Clan, initially in motion, suddenly shattered, causing the magic power and array formula to collide, erupting in bursts of pale blue light, illuminating over half of the hunting ground.

Amid the glow, the five hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team fell from the air like scattered balls.

”Binding Spell!”

The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team shouted loudly, summoning five thick vines from the void to catch the hunters who were dizzy from their fall.

”Is this the result of your training?” He furiously rushed towards them, fuming: ”Didn’t you all just perform well? Who made the mistake this time!”

Xin Fat Man climbed off the ground, swatting away the bothersome obstacles in front of him.

”Su Councilor, hello, I am the auxiliary hunter of the Absolution Hunting Team, Sinn Bana Schmidt-Bayer, code name Fatty, you can call me Xin Fat Man or Fatty.”

The fat wizard swiftly bypassed their captain, rushing towards the tall figure, ingratiatingly introducing himself while not forgetting to take out a new business card from his pocket: ”...I also work part-time for the campus newspaper as a journalist, and the headline today, ’Su Shijun’s First Hunting Team’, is my humble work, heh heh...”
