High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2012: Chapter 233: Acting Captain Candidate

Zheng Qing barely remembers how the hunting team’s training last Friday night ended.

Because later that night, he went to the school hospital, where Lady Bella forced several doses of bitter magic potion down his throat, making his eyes glaze over and his consciousness blur.

Zheng Qing vaguely recalls that everyone else seemed quite satisfied with the training that night.

The other warlocks were satisfied because they displayed their gorgeous peacock feathers before the host of Greenhill Mansion, just like peacocks showing off their bright tails; Li Meng was also satisfied because Su Shijun signed her notebook before departing and invited her to the mansion for afternoon tea.

As for Jiang Yu and Su Shijun, since both ended up in the school hospital, they had no reason to be dissatisfied.

The only one not very satisfied was Zheng Qing.

Throughout the night, he felt his back alternated between dry and wet, his mind shifting between relaxation and tension, making him quite neurotic.

This chaos and the lingering confusion from the potion kept him dazed all day until Saturday evening when he finally came to his senses.

To be accurate, a magic aura forced him to clear his mind.

”What do you mean you have something and can’t attend tonight’s training?”

Xin Fat Man, cradling Tuan Tuan, scrutinized the serious young cost student with confusion in his voice: ”What could possibly be more important than meeting Su Daxu right now... Wouldn’t you agree, Doctor?”

He turned his head toward Xiao Xiao.

Xiao Xiao was sitting at the desk, carefully polishing his crystal ball with a red velvet cloth, aiming to make it shine brightly during tonight’s training.

Upon hearing the fat wizard’s shout, he seemed to snap out of his thoughts, adjusted his glasses vacantly, and replied, ”What? No time? That’s great... I can act as the hunting team leader! No problem, you can safely entrust the responsibility to me!”

”What do you mean you’re acting as hunting team leader?”

Xin Fat Man instantly forgot his doubts about Zheng Qing seconds earlier and became furious: ”In terms of position, I’m the pivot in the formation; in terms of seniority, Brother Xin is one of the team’s top hunters...rank-wise, we both definitely outrank you!”

”Precisely because neither of you would submit to the other, I’m the most suitable to act as team leader.” The Diviner of Absolution refocused on his crystal ball, his tone light: ”As the saying goes, when the snipe and clam fight, the fisherman profits; when the second fights the third, the fourth ascends...”

This reasoning, surprisingly, made some sense.

Indeed, Xin Fat Man intended first to confirm his top-three ranking, then at the hunting ground, discuss seriously with Zhang Ji Xin who should lead. Hearing the Doctor’s analysis now left him in a bind, even the Fat Cat enjoying a massage under his hand seemed to feel the change in force, angrily screeched, leapt out of his lap, and went straight into the bed.

The fat man couldn’t care about comforting the Fat Cat and looked at Xiao Xiao in distress: ”...How about you support me as acting leader this time, next time Mr. Zha has issues, I support you?”

”Who knows when next time would be.” The Doctor scoffed at such non-binding verbal agreements.

Xin Fat Man confidently patted his chest: ”Tomorrow! Monday night! I guarantee, he’ll have diarrhea so bad it’ll weaken his legs... Trust me, he sneaks my snacks every single day.”

Zheng Qing listened with a face full of confusion.

When did he ever sneak the fat man’s snacks! He just occasionally ate a bit... Occasionally... Can casually eating be considered stealing? Isn’t friendly sharing among roommates perfectly normal?

And what’s with the diarrhea!

”What do you mean I’m having issues, hey!”

The young cost student cracked his knuckles, visibly annoyed, forgetting to care about the ’Mr. Zha’ nickname, his gaze darting between the two roommates: ”While I’m still here, you’re already discussing drugging me? Is the next step picking out a coffin for me?”

It seemed at that moment that the two companions finally noticed their own leader’s presence.

Xiao Xiao looked shocked: ”Weren’t you busy? Why haven’t you left yet?”

”Go on, go on, don’t waste time,” the fat wizard waved dismissively, as if shooing away a fly: ”Don’t worry, we’ll take care of the hunting team for you.”

Zheng Qing gloomily pulled out his Colt silver python, loading it with charm bullets one by one.

The roommates instantly quieted down.

Just then, there were creaking sounds from Dylan’s bed beside them, and within moments, Mister Wolfman, pale-faced, with a messy head of hair, peeped out from his coffin.

”What time is it? Is it time yet? What’s going on?”

His sleepy voice was accompanied by a big yawn, revealing two sharp little fangs, giving a slightly cute yet menacing vibe: ”... Did I just hear someone mention buying a coffin? I’ve got connections, old family ties... Can help you pick the best quality coffins! They’ll last a hundred years without breaking!”

Zheng Qing was entirely exasperated.

He glared at the fat man, aggressively stuffed the charm gun into his belt, and dug out his pocket watch to check the time: ”Seven forty-nine, over an hour left until training... You can get some more sleep.”

”An hour?”

The vampire werewolf sprang fully awake, flipping the coffin lid open, and jumping off the bed in panic: ”Oh no, oh no, not enough time... Is an hour enough to powder my face? Will Su Councilor find me rude?”

He zoomed into the washroom like the wind, causing a clatter of noise inside. Sprites, seemingly buzzing like bees provoked, scrambled in, clutching various toiletries.

As he washed up, Dylan’s curious voice came from the washroom: ”I vaguely heard something about the team leader as I was in the coffin? Did something happen to Mr. Zha?”

Xiao Xiao and the fat wizard exchanged a glance.

Ultimately, it was Xin Fat Man, known for his eloquence, who spoke: ”Well, Mr. Zha mentioned he has something tonight, can’t attend training, so he wants someone to act as hunting team leader...”

His words were cut off as a wet head peeked out from the washroom doorway. Zheng Qing noticed a little sprite hanging on Mister Wolfman’s hair, diligently scrubbing it with bare arms.

”So, the person sending Su Councilor home after training isn’t decided yet?”

Dylan’s face lit up with excitement, waving his arms, eyes gleaming with an intimidating light: ”Don’t fight me over this; in the entire hunting team, I’m the only member of the Moon Council, more qualified than anyone to be acting leader...”

”Nonsense, I’m the pivot in the formation!” the fat wizard snapped.

”Everyone stop fighting, listen to me, my divination indicates that tonight’s hunting team leader is me,” Xiao Xiao stated with the most impartial voice, saying something entirely subjective: ”Merlin Above, it’s the magic choice... But as the fat man suggested, this can be rotated among everyone, next time someone else can take on the role.”
