High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2014: Chapter 235: It Won’t Come to That

Monk Shi Yuan is one of the initiators of the Forgiveness Knight Order. Few people know about this, while many don’t. However, it’s not difficult to dig out this information.

Initially, he was included because establishing a Hunting team required endorsement from a school-wide student organization, and to establish such an organization, students from all four colleges must jointly initiate it.

Zheng Qing and others, being newcomers, knew few people across different colleges. Especially Atlas, which is notorious for its exclusiveness and closed nature. They searched for quite a while, finally reaching out to Monk Shi Yuan through old connections from the admission flight.

The little monk is a reliable person, aware that he is merely a rubber stamp, and rarely gets involved in the affairs of the Atonement Hunting Team. Compared to hunting, he prefers to doze off while chanting scriptures under the ancient Buddhist light.

However, when he mentioned the term ”take the blame,” the first thing that flashed in Zheng Qing’s mind was another name, D&K.

This noon, Fox Five, who is responsible for running D&K, sent a paper crane to the young public student, mentioning that the invitation of the owner of Greenhill Mansion as the guide teacher for the Atonement Hunting Team led to a flood of idle gossip guests entering D&K, bringing great security pressure to the store. The message mentioned that next time the Atonement Hunting Team has a similar action, they should notify the store employees in advance, whether it’s temporarily closing the shop, or informing the Beta Town Management Committee to dispatch some sheriffs, or taking the opportunity of increased customer flow to stock up more goods, there needs to be a clear program — this was a subtle inquiry if the shop owner wanted to temporarily close the shop.

However, upon receiving the message, Zheng Qing was still in a dazed state after last night’s school infirmary trip. Seeing that the content of the message was not too urgent, he immediately dismissed it.

Recalling this at the moment, he felt slightly apologetic.

Of course, the sincerity of this apology is debatable — because besides needing to allocate a portion to those few employees in D&K, an additional small amount had to be shared with Monk Shi Yuan in front of him.

In a certain sense, the situations of Shi Yuan and Fox Five are so similar that they appealed to the same wizard on the same day with similar requests.

”Oh! How could I forget about this!”

The young public student stamped his foot in excitement, interrupting Shi Yuan’s relentless complaints. Upon recalling the message from Fox Five, he simultaneously realized that D&K was an excellent place for transformation.

The little monk was stunned for a few seconds, trying to convince himself that the guy in front of him realized his mistake, but judging by his expression, he wasn’t entirely sure.

”Are you talking about me?”

The little monk pointed to his nose, stammering with a bit of embarrassment: ”I didn’t specifically come to blame you for anything... it’s just that after you invited Councilor Su, many classmates on our side asked me for... of course, I have already rejected most unreasonable requests... but a few signatures shouldn’t be a problem, right... hey, slow down, slow down! I haven’t finished yet!”

He hadn’t even taken out the autograph book from his chest pocket when Zheng Qing grabbed him by the arm and started dragging him out.

As they walked, the young wizard promised earnestly, ”Rest assured, if it’s just a few signatures, I’ll lose face to help you get them!”

His words filled the little monk with a broad smile, and he repeatedly said, ”Not necessary, not necessary... what’s this?”

He took the talisman paper handed over by Zheng Qing.

”Invisibility Talisman.” The warlock explained briefly: ”If you don’t want to be ambushed lately, you’d better keep such useful talismans handy when you go out.”

”It shouldn’t be necessary, right...?”

Again, the little monk said a string of ”not necessary,” but this time, his voice carried less joy and more unease and vigilance.

A moment later.

Two blurred figures stood at the entrance of the D&K store on the pedestrian street.

As night fell, most of the shops on the street had closed, but this store was still lit. Through the glass window, you could see the slightly messy interior of the store — drink stains on the floor, scattered pieces of paper with messy footprints, tilted shelves, and the goods displayed chaotically on them.

Two mouse people employees were crouching down, tails up, diligently scrubbing the stains off the floor.

Accountant Hank, wearing glasses, sat behind the counter, slowly going over the bills with a steaming cup of tea in front of him, the pearly mist forming a faint rain cloud on his forehead.

The sound of the door opening startled the old fox behind the counter.

”Sorry, the shop has closed. Please come back tomorrow if you need anything.” Hank said without looking up, skillfully dealing with the situation, his voice hoarse: ”...our store has only a limited partnership with the Atonement Hunting Team and has no connection with the owner of Greenhill Mansion. I’m just an ordinary Qingqiu Fox who happened by chance to work here.”

”Hank, what do you mean by limited partnership?” Zheng Qing was a bit puzzled.

Having not visited for a few days, it felt like the store was no longer his own.

The old fox behind the counter immediately looked up, first showing surprise, then displaying a bit of nervousness. Without acknowledging the two unexpected guests, he instructed the two mice, ”Ding Dang, Ding Dong, lock the door, don’t let anyone see them here...”

”We kept Invisibility Talismans on before entering.” Zheng Qing guessed the accountant’s worries and immediately reassured him. This immediately put the old fox at ease.

Coming to his senses, he didn’t explain Zheng Qing’s confusion but instead started to complain endlessly: ”Did you receive our paper crane? Since that news came out yesterday, all sorts of people have been blocking the store looking for you — journalists, fans of the ladies, curious bystanders, and even a few black wizards! I bet they are definitely black wizards, no normal wizard would press their face against the window and grin at you with black teeth all day!”

Hearing this, Zheng Qing instinctively looked back at the window.

Thankfully, the terrifying face Hank described was no longer there.

”...Don’t worry, they’re gone now. The Beta Town Management Committee sent a few sheriffs over to take a look, which drove away quite a few people.” As he said this, the fox accountant took a sip from his cup and shook his head: ”It was a nightmare, even worse than the trouble after the Ears Brothers’ identity was exposed... At least, wizards looking for the Ears Brothers would weigh the influence of a Legendary Wizard before causing trouble.”

Monk Shi Yuan was listening in a daze, suddenly feeling that his troubles seemed not so big in comparison.

”Rest assured, we received the paper crane.”

The captain of the Atonement Hunting Team comforted his store employees: ”These things are just temporary hypes... after the hunting competition starts in a few days, no one will be blocking the door... If you’re still uneasy, you can temporarily close for a few days, wages will be fully paid, and any losses will be covered by us!”

He patted his chest, taking full responsibility on behalf of the other team members.

Then he pulled Monk Shi Yuan forward and snatched the autograph book from his hand, stuffing it into Hank’s: ”Shi Yuan needs some autographs from Councilor Su. I’ll write you a note to send to the mansion tonight or tomorrow... Don’t worry, it’s definitely not a problem!”
