High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2025: Chapter 246: Emperor Body Rises

It turns out, adopting a clever approach to a serious matter is incredibly foolish.

When the sixth wave of thirty-two ghouls arrived on schedule, the Absolution Hunting Team followed Zheng Qing’s idea and first used Binding Spells and Chaos Spells to disrupt the ghouls’ attack rhythm, attempting to buy time.

But this didn’t make things easier for them.

Instead, while these young hunters were tied up dealing with these thirty-two ghouls, the seventh wave of sixty-four ghouls quietly approached from another direction.

”Damn it!”

After receiving Dylan’s warning, the captain of the Absolution Hunting Team immediately noticed the sneaky figures and cursed under his breath: ”I knew it wouldn’t be that easy... Reform the pentagram formation, tighten the stance... Gentlemen, stop wasting time collecting those corpses!”

Before Dylan could speak, Xiao Xiao stopped Zheng Qing’s suggestion: ”No, collecting a bit more isn’t a bad idea... We might soon need their help.”

At the same time, Zhang Ji Xin also rejected Zheng Qing’s tactics, sternly shouting: ”Swordsman, Gentlemen follow me, go snipe the seventh wave ghouls... Mr. Zha and Doctor handle these guys right in front of us!”

Then he turned to Zheng Qing and confidently patted his chest: ”Less than a hundred ghouls, we don’t need to shrink the formation yet.”

Zheng Qing shrugged, acknowledging the tactic, but instinctively pulled out the charm gun from his waist and loaded it.

Just in case.

Xiao Xiao glanced at the charm gun in the public expense student’s hand.

”I recall the student council prohibited you from using charm guns in the hunting competition.” As he spoke, he commanded several sharp wooden spikes to pierce the hearts of the ghouls trapped in the vine mesh, shattering them one by one.

”They only prohibited ’that type’ of Fu Bullet,” Zheng Qing said while holding the law book, helping to strengthen the Binding Spell, and casually explained: ”... Regular Fu Bullets aren’t banned.”

During a patrol last semester, Zheng Qing had severely injured Sepulano with one shot, so when Absolution confirmed participation in this year’s school hunting competition, the student council and hunting committee issued a notification prohibiting Zheng Qing from using ’over-spec’ Fu Bullets during the competition upon Augustus’ suggestion.

Looking at it now, that notification was unnecessary.

These ghouls are too weak; aside from looking ugly, smelling bad, and having terrifying gazes, their actual combat strength is even inferior to Poseidon—Zheng Qing absolutely didn’t want to waste even the worst quality Fu Bullet on them.

Their feeble magic resistance and sluggish movements made them bogged down in the spells of the young hunters. Nearly a hundred ghouls lasted less than five minutes before being annihilated, forming a small mountain along with Dylan’s other spoils.

”I just feel something’s off.”

The young public expense student crouched beside a dead ghoul, poking its head with a stick, and an ugly face turned towards him under the stick’s force.

At that moment, Zheng Qing felt he had a deeper understanding of Quasimodo or Frankenstein’s appearance.

He calmly renewed the force on the stick, turned the face to another direction, then gathered his senses before continuing: ”Too weak... These guys are not as strong as the Arab ghouls, and they didn’t communicate with each other at all, using extremely crude tactics... Totally unlike the ghouls we encountered last time.”

At the end of last semester, when the Absolution Hunting Team entered Dreamland, they had brief encounters with Dreamland ghouls, which impressed Zheng Qing as being a group of cunning, fierce, and quite capable mercenaries.

Dylan nodded in agreement: ”Indeed, something’s off.”

As a creature with high undead lineage, Mister Blood Werewolf had the most authority on this matter. Since he also felt something was wrong, there must be an issue.

Xiao Xiao carried two wooden spikes as he walked to Zheng Qing’s side, handing him one.

”This is the first ghoul.” The diviner of Absolution poked a wooden spike into the ghoul, easily punching out a big hole.

Then he scanned around and quickly identified the second target: ”This is one from the second wave.”

This time, the hole made in the ghoul was slightly smaller.

”Here’s one from the third wave.”

The hole was even smaller.

Zheng Qing pondered while following behind the doctor, poking each one. Just as shown, the ghouls in each subsequent wave not only increased in number but also had stronger bodies. In the final wave, with sixty-four ghouls, Zheng Qing stabbed one, leaving only a tiny dent.

”Next, there should be one hundred and twenty-eight ghouls.” The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team muttered, stood up, looked into the distance, and tightened the charm gun in his hand.

The weapon thought to be unused today now seemed likely to get a lucky draw.

”It’s been less than an hour since the competition began,” Xiao Xiao calculated, quickly analyzing: ”Although each subsequent wave appears a minute later than compared to the previous ones... but at this current frequency, in the next hour, we might face as many as four thousand, even more than eight thousand ghouls.”

Hiss!

Even the boldest, Zhang Ji Xin, gasped along with everyone else. If the individual strength of the subsequent ghouls continued to increase, Absolution might be overwhelmed by two thousand ghouls.

”So the most frequently heard phrase this year is ’hold on’!” Zheng Qing felt some toothache and couldn’t help but rub his cheek with the hand holding the charm gun.

He was very doubtful whether this hunting ground could accommodate thousands of ghouls.

”It’s only in Dreamland that the school dares to play so extravagantly.”

Mister Blood Werewolf browsed over those ghouls with lingering eyes, repeatedly sighing: ”If it were outside, a specially conditioned Dreamland ghoul would cost at least a gold bean... Consuming hundreds or thousands in one match would bankrupt the school, no matter how wealthy it is.”

”No wonder it started so easily.” The red-faced male wizard tugged at his gloves, took out protection gear from his pocket, and started putting it on while mumbling: ”... Cheap stuff isn’t good, truly a wise saying.”

Is it possible to interpret that way?

Zheng Qing pulled at the corner of his mouth.

”If the calculations are correct, within five minutes, the eighth wave of the ghoul tide should appear.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, his gaze sweeping over the others: ”My suggestion is, have the gentlemen tie up part of them...”

He pointed at the mound of corpses, then said to Dylan: ”You need to familiarize with their command style before the real test arrives... Everyone else handle the remaining ghouls as quickly as possible.”

Dylan nodded slightly.

Then, under Zheng Qing’s puzzled gaze, Mister Blood Werewolf revealed the law book, cleared his throat, and lightly exclaimed: ”Emperor Body Rises!”

A dead ghoul swayed to its feet under the spell’s voice, drooping its head, as if about to fall at any moment, spinning slowly in place. Through the large hole in its chest, Zheng Qing clearly saw Doctor Xiao’s calm expression on the other side.
