Chapter 1189: Chapter 514: Middle Ages Army Building (Part 2)

”Of course.” Surya looked at the heavy snow outside the window, the gentle and charming female knight leaned compliantly against Laine’s chest: ”Laine, I always feel that your behavior today was a bit strange; you seem to be purposely distancing yourself from Lady Aurora.”

”How did I distance myself from her? I led my men to welcome her outside the winery and even applauded.” Laine said with a smile, holding his wife.

”That’s not what I mean, you followed all the proper etiquette. I meant that if it’s really like I understand, you have known Female Elder Aurora for over ten years, yet today you acted like you were just a guest who’d met her a few times, the sense of distance was quite apparent.” Surya took the chance to ask about the issue she was concerned about.

”I did it intentionally.” Laine’s fingers glided over the curly ends of Surya’s golden hair.

”Intentionally?”

”Yes, actually my relationship with Female Elder Aurora and Teresa is quite complex, as you probably know, Aurora once saved my adoptive father Norman during a war.” Laine nodded, the couple enjoying the hot milk and delicious mille-feuille sent by Surya, while listening to Laine’s storytelling: ”I used to speak humbly before her.”

”Laine, you don’t seem like the kind of person who’s petty.” Surya laughed: ”You’re not King Belgar.”

”I’m not exactly holding a grudge, just that my status has changed now, but it’s highly possible Aurora’s perception of me hasn’t changed; maybe in her mind, I’m still that young man who had to bow, speak standing, and be humble before her.” Laine said with a bitter smile: ”If I act very close, Aurora might truly feel she is still the untouchable Holy Sanctuary Witch, which would be troublesome. I merely want equality, that’s all.”

”So you act aloof intentionally to make her recognize the reality that you’re no longer the Little Knight she can mold at will?” Surya quickly grasped Laine’s thought.

”Sometimes a little distance isn’t a bad thing.” Laine nodded: ”I can’t let my subordinates feel I’m weak and easily bullied. Furthermore, I am a Divine Chosen Champion of the Lady.”

”Hmm.” Surya lazily leaned in Laine’s arms, the couple enjoying a tender moment: ”As long as you’ve thought it through.”

”Except for Lady Veronica, witches generally have this trait. They disdain overly weak men, and too strong men... never mind, I think you understand.” Laine’s expression was somewhat complicated: ”In fact, over the years, I’ve repaid a lot of Aurora and Teresa’s favors, I feel I owe them nothing. Teresa indeed serves as my female courtier, but if I lower my stance, Aurora will definitely seize the chance to make a host of demands, then if I refuse them all, it’d seem I’m overly cold—a violation of the Knightly Path.”

”No wonder you’re always so fond of Lady Veronica.” Surya seemed indifferent to Aurora’s matters; the female knight thought if Laine couldn’t refuse certain conditions, she as his wife would step in to prevent them, she wasn’t at all impressed by the Female Elder of Jialan Council.

The two were tender for a while, Laine finished the last piece of paperwork and stood up: ”Then I’ll head out.”

”Hmm, I’ll wait for you to return.” Surya nodded, the female knight knew the Lake Fairy’s oracle summoned Laine to meet her on Lily Flower Island at midnight.

Laine gently kissed Surya for a few seconds before turning and leaving the room, leaving only Surya inside.

Looking at the snow outside, Surya picked up the pen intending to write something.

A sudden wave of nausea surged through the female knight’s throat; Surya took a few deep breaths before regaining her composure.

Suddenly, it seemed like she realized something, her previously pale face was instantly flushed with red.

...This is the sudden nausea split line...

Deep within Charon Forest, the Brittania Holy Land, Lily Flower Island, beneath the lake’s heart.

Within the vortex condensed by the divine power of the Lake Fairy, quietly lie ten teenage boys, mostly confined within mysterious apparatuses, enveloped by a pure spiritual vortex, while the golden divine power of the Lake Fairy flowed around these boys.

The long absent Lake Fairy walked in front, holding a golden Holy Grail: ”These are all that remain of your offspring, only ten persisted till the end; the rest either perished failing the trials or couldn’t withstand energy explosions, while some were swallowed by the Chaos Domain, turning into ash.”

Today’s Goddess was adorned in an elegant high elf wavy textured knit silk dress, revealing long beautiful legs through the skirt slit, thinly wrapped in black pantyhose; the dress’s collar tightly stretched by the Goddess’s fullness, golden hair cascading down to her ankles like a waterfall, with a floral crown of Golden Iris on her head, her attire festooned with various jewels, especially the entire set of platinum jewelry obtained from Surya, the Lake Fairy’s favorite.

The Goddess, a national beauty, now had furrowed brows, taking measured steps, her black stockinged feet in fiery red high heels, complained somewhat: ”Laine, you better ensure your offspring are sufficiently powerful; otherwise, the cost of our experiment this time is quite substantial.”

”The survival rate of Grey Knights is traditionally very low, even with me as the Primarch present, having ten out of three hundred survive is a miracle.” Laine followed behind the Lake Fairy, eyebrows furrowed, checking each boy’s incubation chamber, the Grey Knight Primarch looked at his remaining ten offspring: ”My Lady, I recall I only asked you to assist me in transforming these boys, not to inject them with your divine power, right?”

”My Champion, please don’t doubt my intentions!” The Lake Fairy turned, stretching out a hand adorned with Emperor’s Blessing, a platinum bracelet and ring, pinching Laine’s face, she said with displeasure: ”Without my divine assistance, maybe only one or two boys out of three hundred could survive.”

After hearing the Lake Fairy’s words, Laine frowned even more deeply, opened his mouth but said nothing.

The secret Grey Knight military formation plan of this world had already started years ago, last Winter Festival, the Emperor and Clarkson brought dozens of Grey Knight Genetic Seeds to Laine, along with technology for cultivating new Grey Knights.

Laine immediately began his military formation plan.

With channels and help from the Lake Fairy, over the years, Laine secretly collected three hundred boys with sufficient spiritual talent, storing them deep within Charon Forest, at the lake heart vortex on Lily Flower Island, using the Ancient Saint’s secret relics for genetic seed implantation and incubation.

However, the success rate was atrociously low, by the end of the first month of modification experiments, over half of the three hundred boys had died.

Yet this was the cost of creating new Grey Knights; Grey Knights are the Emperor’s last genetic legacy, their powerful spirits and sacred bodies are the Emperor’s most precious gifts to the Grey Knight Chapter, even though the Great Sage of the Mechanical God Cult Belisarius Kaur had improved the technology using Primarch Laine’s blood, even though Laine’s spiritual energy could shield and guide the boys’ minds, forging them tougher and more resilient, these boys with spiritual talent continued to die en masse.

Thus it’s evident, without Primarch, how costly it is for Grey Knight Chapters to train new soldiers.

Incidentally, when the Emperor departed, he extracted nearly a thousand milliliters of blood from Laine, it took him several days to recover.

Nearly a year later, only ten of the three hundred boys remained, these precious survivors will be implanted with the Grey Knight Genetic Seeds and gradually grow in incubation chambers until the genetic seeds merge with their bodies and souls.

These boys will become the Honour Guard of the Grey Knight Chapter.

They will fight alongside the Primarch until the world’s end.
