Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1069 - 586: Melee on the Ground

The flying mutated creatures were the first to charge into Crystal City.

From afar, these flying mutated creatures looked like raptors with wingspans exceeding two meters, with some even reaching four or five meters.

Fortunately, Xu Xin didn’t spot any existence similar to the previous pterosaurs among this group of flying mutated creatures.

Judging by this, there shouldn’t be any advanced mutated creatures in this beast swarm.

At least not yet.

This is good news.

Because at this level of beast swarm, they are fully capable of holding their ground!

”Everyone, pay attention to the sky, flying mutated creatures have entered Crystal City and are about to approach!” Xu Xin announced to the group.

The situation on the ground wasn’t optimistic either.

The beast tide that originally surrounded the outside of Crystal City has completely surged into the city,

and on the map in his mind, areas of Crystal City were entirely enveloped by red dots!

Under such a massive onslaught, the two hundred survivors defending Crystal City were already struggling to deal with the ground creatures, and now they also had to fend off the beasts that occasionally leaped up attempting to destroy the heavy crossbows.

Asking them to divide their attention to attack the flying creatures in the sky was indeed challenging.

”This...!”

”I might not be able to handle what’s happening above!”

”I’ll dedicate a heavy crossbow to attack the sky!”

Sure enough, after seeing Xu Xin’s message, there was a bit of chaos among them.

Xu Xin promptly said, ”Prioritize attacking the ground beast swarm, clear the number of ground beasts! I’m asking you to be mindful of the flying mutated creatures above, don’t let them damage yourselves, the tree houses, or the heavy crossbows!”

”Understood!”

”I still have half my ammunition! It’s enough to last for a while!”

”You’re using it too quickly! I still have more than half left!”

”Conserve ammunition! Aim for dense areas to make every shot as effective as possible!”

”I’ll handle this street on the east side! Let’s not overlap our bombardment zones!”

”Then I can spare one to attack the big birds above!”

Without needing instructions from the explorers, the survivors began the most effective attack and planning against the beast swarm!

Having survived until now, being top fighters from District 1 and District 188, these people were already veterans in the survival world.

What needed to be done didn’t require their direction at all.

The flying mutated creatures moved much faster than the ground creatures and far surpassed the speed of the underground mutants.

In just over ten seconds, they spanned half of Crystal City, drawing dangerously close to the World Tree.

However, when they flew into Crystal City, a small part of them crashed down directly.

They were the larger ones among this group of mutated creatures!

”Affected by Crystal City!” Xu Xin immediately realized the principle behind it and reminded in the [Explorers], ”These flying mutated creatures do not entirely lack giant beast blood!”

Apparently, the opposition couldn’t find enough flying mutated creatures without giant beast blood, hence they mixed in those with relatively sparse giant beast bloodlines.

Perhaps they too wanted to test whether they would be unaffected at high altitudes, but unfortunately, according to Afu’s tests, as long as you can see it, you’ll be affected. The vision range of raptors far exceeds that of humans and other mammals. Once they enter Crystal City’s range, they begin to fall en masse.

In just a few seconds after the entire flying legion entered Crystal City, a fifth of them were down.

But the remaining group of flying mutated creatures was unaffected, swiftly passing over the defensive line of two hundred survivors and diving straight toward the World Tree!

Their target was the trunk of the World Tree, not the crown.

The crown was too lush, too expansive, already nearly covering half of Crystal City. Completely destroying the crown was a gigantic project, not to mention it could self-repair—the rate of destruction might not even match the repair speed.

The opposition knew well that only by destroying the trunk could they ruin the World Tree; attacking the crown was futile.

Therefore, none of the flying mutated creatures paid any attention to the crown; they flew directly beneath it, diving straight toward the trunk.

Their speed was too fast!

And just at this moment, from the window of Wen Guixin’s treehouse, three raptors suddenly flew out, racing rapidly toward the airborne beast swarm!

Like three fighter jets taking off from the ground, they soared to meet the incoming enemy fighter squadron!

Moreover, their goal was simple—to collide!

Injuring the opponent was already a win!

The flying mutated creatures weren’t surrounding the World Tree like the ground creatures; they flew en masse from the north of Crystal City, their formation resembling a flock of geese flying south, presenting a standard V-shape.

This formation was to reduce overall flight resistance.

The one leading was usually the strongest and the most exhausted.

And the three birds flying out from Wen Guixin’s treehouse window targeted the tip of the V-formation!

In an instant, the three raptors collided into the opposing flying formation, and the overall formation of the flying mutated creatures was directly disrupted. Sharp bird cries sounded, and feathers flew everywhere!

In the Explorers group, Wen Guixin spoke up, ”What are you all standing around for? Attack them quick!”

As she spoke, the treehouse ballista on her treehouse roared to life, instantly firing dozens of explosive bolts into the sky!
