Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 724: Chapter 469: Mounting the Great Cannon! (A 5100-word long Chapter!)_2

Moreover, it can explode internally, causing massive damage to its relatively weak internal organs!

Now, they have truly mastered a method to injure and repel the Lake Giant Python!

”Well done!” Xu Xin forcefully patted Ma Hongwei’s shoulder, ”Your contribution is immense this time!”

From Ma Hongwei’s explanation, he seemed extremely satisfied with this weapon.

At last, he no longer had to worry day and night about some huge creature emerging from the lake beside them!

”Well... I just had some ideas.” Ma Hongwei was a bit embarrassed, ”If it weren’t for the abundance of resources from our explorers, I probably wouldn’t even have the capability to conduct research. At this stage, only we can afford to use such resource-consuming heavy crossbows!”

Indeed.

Currently, only they, the explorers, could use this heavy crossbow.

Not to mention the massive resource consumption of the heavy crossbow, just one bolt required materials equivalent to ten purple-level resources, which was entirely out of reach even for the strong organizations in other areas!

As for them, they not only had Li Wenxi providing raw materials but also had hundreds of treehouse cores, recharging once every five days, thus barely supporting this.

Yet, at this stage, the consumption was still somewhat significant for them.

After all, their demand for purple-level materials was vast in other aspects as well.

One heavy crossbow bolt required five pieces of purple-level steel, enough to make a set of purple-level steel armor!

No wonder Li Wenxi was reluctant.

The consumption was astonishingly high!

The budget for other areas was directly under immense pressure!

However, was this thing really as powerful as Ma Hongwei claimed?

”By the way, Brother Xin, there are other purple-level steel heavy crossbows in that backpack, in various types, all prepared for you.” Ma Hongwei pointed to the backpack, ”I originally planned to trade them to you directly, but since you’re here, I’ll give them to you directly.”

Xu Xin nodded, then asked, ”Aren’t you planning to install one of these heavy crossbows for yourself?”

After all, he was the researcher of the heavy crossbow and had developed it following a crushing death by the Lake Giant Python, so it was only fitting for him to equip one as well.

While the material requirement was substantial, it wasn’t particularly excessive for them at the moment.

”No, no.” Ma Hongwei shook his head, ”You should install it, Brother Xin. Your treehouse is the most important. The attack range of this heavy crossbow is particularly long; it can cover at least several kilometers and can also provide protection for my area.”

”Also, my area is more of an outer perimeter, more prone to attacks compared to your treehouse, Brother Xin,” he continued, ”Such a heavy long-range weapon should be in the safest spot; otherwise, it’d be a pity if it gets destroyed after all that effort.”

Xu Xin nodded.

Indeed, that makes sense.

Ma Hongwei’s consideration in this regard was quite comprehensive.

”Do you have any other ideas about the deployment of the heavy crossbow?” Xu Xin asked.

Although he had some plans himself, Ma Hongwei, as the creator of the heavy crossbow, might have better solutions.

”Hmm...”

Ma Hongwei contemplated for a moment, then carefully chose his words and spoke.

”Brother Xin, my idea is to mainly install heavy long-range weapons on your treehouse to deal with possible giant beasts.”

”And on the surrounding treehouses, we should install relatively smaller, cost-effective weapons capable of covering more area, such as treehouse ballistae that can be loaded with hundreds of explosive bolts to deal with smaller mutative creatures and beast tides.”

”Just right, now around your treehouse, Brother Xin, there are already four of us: Qin Fu, Lou Fei’Er, Zeng Tao, and myself. We are positioned in different directions.” He calmly analyzed, ”With us here, even if a beast tide of that scale were to come, we could fend it off without your treehouse, Brother Xin, having to intervene.”

Xu Xin nodded.

What Ma Hongwei said was correct.

Currently, his own treehouse was centrally located among these individuals, so any attack on his treehouse would first need to pass over theirs.

Even if mutative creatures crossed their treehouses into the inner area, they would already be a depleted force, not worth mentioning.

Thus, the conventional heavy crossbows on his treehouse seem less important now.

”So, Brother Xin, my idea is as I previously mentioned; we should handle the many lower-tier creatures of a beast tide, while your treehouse should focus on heavy weapons output to threaten any arriving giant beasts!”

”Of course, we can’t completely lack the ability to combat giant beasts, so I plan to install some standard super heavy crossbows on our surrounding treehouses, with blue-grade heavy bolts at the ready. This way, we can inflict some significant threat to large enemies, at least delay them, even if we can’t grievously harm them, giving you more time, Brother Xin.”

After speaking, Ma Hongwei again handed the backpack over to Xu Xin.

Xu Xin nodded in agreement: ”Your suggestion is very reasonable.”

Ma Hongwei’s ideas largely aligned with his own.

”However, my treehouse should also be equipped with standard weapons. After all, if a powerful beast tide occurs and your treehouses are breached, you’ll all have to retreat into my treehouse. At that point, my treehouse will be the final fortress, and this last stronghold must have all means of attack.”
