Chapter 378: Chapter 378: 66th General, You Are Not Worthy

Ning Jingjing’s gaze hardened, and then she said indifferently, ”Su Zhenglong was personally recruited by me from the Canglong Small Domain, he possesses a sixth-grade purple Martial Vein, who dares to challenge that?”

As soon as her words fell, a heavy series of footsteps suddenly erupted.

A Deputy General stepped out, he was one of the Deputy Generals belonging to the 66th Army’s 120,000 new recruits.

”General Ning, I am not convinced.”

”Or rather, I am voicing the injustice felt by many.”

”In our Long Night Black Burning Army, there are also many old soldiers from the Reserve Camp who have struggled all their lives, yet they have not been able to become official Black-armored Soldiers, of course, they are not convinced.”

Following this Deputy General’s speech, the noise around gradually grew louder.

”My father is one of them, he has always been in the Reserve Camp, but because of an injury he missed the chance to become a Black-armored Soldier, now he can only degrade to being a janitor, I am not convinced.”

”Right, my father reached the Innate Martial Scripture Realm at the age of forty, why can’t he become a Black-armored Soldier?”

”Exactly, this Su Zhenglong is probably also around forty, why then can he become one?”

The voices around grew more numerous.

Under the deliberate guidance of some, individuals strode forward, their expressions agitated, pressing heavily towards the platform.

”What do you think you’re doing? Rebelling?”

Deputy Generals who were trusted by Ning Jingjing immediately stepped out in response, issuing a stern shout at them.

However, another voice rose from within the crowd.

”Don’t throw big accusations at us, we’re just not convinced by this old man becoming a Black-armored Soldier.”

The noise grew louder, and the crowds glared at Ning Jingjing and her people.

In the blink of an eye, the 66th Castle split into two factions, one side with the aura of 120,000 people and the other with 80,000.

All of a sudden, another roaring voice emerged from the crowd...

”Ning Jingjing, you are so unjust, you do not deserve to be the 66th General.”

This roar instantly ignited the fury of both sides, and their voices became more intense, like water and fire clashing.

And all these voices were hidden among the 120,000 people, impossible to pinpoint, but they kept fanning the flames...

Su Zhenglong’s face was extremely ugly.

Su Yue Immortal and Su Yuexi, among others, also grew pale.

What was supposed to be a joyous helmet bestowing ceremony, how did it suddenly turn into this? Hadn’t the 66th Army been very united for the past month?

At this moment, Zhang Zhun stepped forward.

He looked at Ning Jingjing and said, ”General Ning, you might need to deal with this, otherwise it’ll get chaotic.”

Ning Jingjing’s expression was not as flustered as imagined, but instead she countered, ”Adviser Zhang, do you have any suggestions?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Zhun was taken aback.

Ning Jingjing, unexpectedly calm beyond anticipation.

At the same time, a glint of understanding flashed in Sikong Jing’s eyes from afar; it seemed that Ning Jingjing had anticipated this situation long ago.

Could she already have a countermeasure in mind?

With this thought, Sikong Jing decided to hold back from intervening for the moment. He moved towards Su Yuexi’s direction like a swimming fish; with his present realm, no one in the 66th Castle could detect his presence or movements.

Before being Demonized, he was at the peak of the Innate Fourth Realm, the Martial Soul Realm.

After leaving Wangyou Sect and withdrawing from the demonized state, he had reached the peak of the Innate Martial Sect Realm, of course, due to the expansion of his meridians after being Demonized and also because of swallowing the inner core of the Ice Soul Cold Eagle.

But more importantly, there was his understanding of the complex meridian system of the Dark Winged Dragon Eagle.

However, the True Qi from the middle-aged woman of the Wangyou Sect he had devoured had become a burden to him after he retreated from becoming demonized.

Therefore, during the half-month journey back from the Wangyou Sect, he had been expelling the True Qi from that middle-aged woman; otherwise, Sikong Jing would have already reached the Xuantian First Realm.

And his prowess at the peak of the Martial Arts Sect Realm was, of course, much stronger than that of others in the same realm.

For General Fei, an expert at the Xuantian First Realm, Sikong Jing could easily kill him across ranks, and his true combat strength had long reached levels unimaginable to ordinary people.

Just as Sikong Jing kept closing in on Su Yuexi...

On the Martial Arts Discussion Platform, upon hearing Ning Jingjing’s words, Zhang Zhun feigned contemplation before speaking, ”General Ning, I’m afraid we cannot let Su Zhenglong become a true Black-armored Soldier. Let’s end the helmet conferral ceremony here.”

This statement caused an immediate change in the expressions of Su Zhenglong’s family, who looked at Ning Jingjing nervously.

But Ning Jingjing, with her face still cold, replied without hesitation, ”That’s impossible. Whether in terms of realm or combat ability, Su Zhenglong has completely passed the assessment. He must become a Black-armored Soldier.”

Upon these words, a great uproar ensued among those around them.

”Ning Jingjing, you’re abusing your power for personal gain.”

”Indeed, who doesn’t know that Su Zhenglong’s son-in-law is in a deep relationship with you?”

”I am truly heartbroken. I held such great expectations for the new General of the 66th Army, diligently guarding the 66th Army every moment of this past month, only to be met with injustice.”

The voices grew increasingly sorrowful and tinged with anger toward Ning Jingjing...

And these words were all on the Righteous Path.

They didn’t deliberately mention any illicit affair between Ning Jingjing and Sikong Jing; instead, they appeared to stand on the moral high ground of the Long Night Black Burning Army, accusing Ning Jingjing of unfairness.

Such voices weighed so heavily on Ning Jingjing’s eighty thousand trusted black-armored soldiers that they felt suffocated.

The corners of Zhang Zhun’s mouth curled slightly; this was exactly the effect he wanted. He wasn’t pressing Ning Jingjing to claim her life or to insult her with words.

He aimed to make her crumble, fair and square.

With this in mind, Zhang Zhun continued, ”General Ning, I ask again that you retract the helmet conferral ceremony for Su Zhenglong.”

Cold light flickered in Ning Jingjing’s eyes, for she had long harbored suspicions about Zhang Zhun.

Just as Sikong Jing had analyzed, it was too strange for one hundred twenty thousand men to not make any disturbance; hence, she had been on guard against Zhang Zhun but hadn’t expected him to be so ruthless, using Su Zhenglong as a breakthrough point to strike at her.

And he had done so without leaving any flaws; among the clamoring of the one hundred twenty thousand, not a word carried any insult.

Suddenly, the morale of her eighty thousand trusted soldiers was completely undermined.

If she compromised now, she might get through this situation, but afterward, she would lose all her credibility, and even Su Zhenglong could not be protected, proving her incompetence. Even her trusted soldiers would doubt her.

She would also be ridiculed by the opposite one hundred twenty thousand new soldiers and scoffed at by the Long Night Black Burning Army.

The consequences would probably be more severe than the current situation.

If she didn’t compromise, war would have to be waged, suppression would be necessary...

But with eighty thousand trusted soldiers devoid of morale, they probably wouldn’t be able to suppress the one hundred twenty thousand new soldiers, and these one hundred twenty thousand were originally Black-armored Soldiers of the 66th Army, already stronger in quality than recent recruits.

Ning Jingjing gnashed her teeth in thought and then made her decision.

She shouted forcefully, ”I, Ning Jingjing, now confer upon Su Zhenglong the token and helmet of a Black-armored Soldier.”

As these words were spoken, the crowd was astounded!

Then, ignoring everyone, Ning Jingjing handed the token and helmet to the bewildered Su Zhenglong, her gaze resolute.

There could be no compromise, no concessions; war was the only option!

Even if defeat was the outcome, it would be better than compromising. Besides, she wasn’t without a contingency plan; over the past month, she had not passed on the Dark Wing Black Burning Sword, crafted by Sikong Jing, to those one hundred twenty thousand new soldiers.

So, they might not necessarily lose.
