Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1390: Chapter 1180: A Conversation in the Depths of the Soul

The Undead Tribe indeed did a great deed.

As soon as the witches’ prayers ceased, Black Eye’s body, which was almost solidifying, began to dissolve again bit by bit.

The witches born from the depths of the Styx have naturally strong souls; once they reach level 12 or above, they can even compete in spiritual power with Extraordinary Mages.

Therefore, although their numbers are not too great... in Toril, it really is enough to support a deification ceremony, providing very strong support for Black Eye.

So their failure actually implied Black Eye’s fate.

Edna revealed a very joyful smile: ”Ah... it seems the battle outside was won by our side!”

Midnight glanced at her: ”Then, can we turn her back into waste again?”

Edna’s mouth involuntarily twitched: ”Considering the future, we might need her Soul Shard to patch things up, so please refer to her as residue.

Calling her waste might inadvertently harm ourselves.”

”This is our biggest difference, isn’t it?” Midnight’s long eyelashes gently trembled, ”I... really don’t want this, impure Divine Soul.”

Black Eye, bitterly attacked by the past and future lives of the two conversing, suddenly sneered: ”Foolish!”

Then she completely gave up struggling, directly turning herself into specks of light, leaving behind a cold message: ”The future is very long! Don’t let me catch another chance!”

Midnight looked at the blue radiance filling the sky and revealed a brilliant smile: ”Huh? Does she expect someone to pray for her in the future?

years later, who will know who she is?

You think, right? Edna.”

Edna hesitated a bit before slowly saying, ”Do you still plan to attribute all of Mystra’s past lives to your achievements?”

”Achievements?” Midnight tasted these two words, showing a strange smile on her face, ”Isn’t that a desperate struggle?

A deity who cannot even decide her own stand, what kind of deity is that!”

”But... wasn’t your initial goal as Mystra to seek revenge against Cyric?” Edna asked puzzledly, ”If you just focused on dealing with him, even Kranvo could help you, instead of hinder you.”

”Maybe it’s because I also have ambition?

I don’t know what you will become in the future, but standing at the center of the Weave, with the whole of Toril in front, it seems like you can control it just by reaching out... that temptation to rule the world is too strong.

People will always change.

Hope you persist longer than I do, and don’t really let that bastard emerge again.” Midnight suddenly sat on the ground, patting beside her with one hand, ”Come chat with me, my time is limited, it all depends on when that big snake charges out!

Tch, if he really could succeed, it would be great, end this world quickly.

After a few more cycles of reincarnation in Toril, even that old Undead must go for a sleep, why not just sleep forever?”

Edna, of course, also has similar memories; she sometimes suspects that Mystree chose to dissolve her soul this century simply because she didn’t want to go through such turmoil repeatedly.

After all, she truly loves Toril.

If it were her, it might not be so painful, but if it were Midnight... forget it, Midnight wouldn’t choose to sacrifice herself like Mystree; even if she were living a fate worse than death, she’d drag a few down with her.

Mystree, a truly kind person, probably couldn’t stand AO’s torment: clearly full of joy watching the mortals thrive, and then, billions wiped out due to those experiments... how powerful was the original author of the Nyscroll, yet her entire race was wiped out.

In today’s Toril, the Path of Destiny always has various restrictions because of the lessons from previous eras.

Powerful individuals, and the deities who weren’t very controlled at the time... the Goddess of Fate, Tai Ji, and the God of Death, Jacob, are still high above!

When they encounter the blows from destiny, their resistance isn’t like the small actions nowadays.

Why Tai Ji had to die wasn’t just because she was a threat; she truly caused a lot of trouble.

If she hadn’t overplayed it, AO wouldn’t have allowed the Nine-Faced Dragon God’s descendants to become World Masters first, and there wouldn’t have been a need to introduce other races, like Elves and Dwarves, to limit the Giant Dragons.

You should know, Aber’s shadow world used to have only Primordials... Toril’s true Natives, eventually, almost exterminated by Dragons in that world.

If AO hadn’t personally intervened to tip the scales, huh~ how could Aber have two continents of equal strength?

”Why do I feel like your hatred for Cyric is not... as strong as I imagined.” Edna gathered her skirt, sitting cross-legged beside Midnight.

Midnight angrily slapped her own ample thigh: ”Of course I hate him!

I can understand him taking the Tablets of Fate, but... why did he have to kill Kranvo?

Even if he had some dissatisfaction with me and Kranvo, could such dissatisfaction warrant killing a teammate who shared life and death for so long?

It’s not like they never lived happily together.

But, ever since he went mad, I somewhat lost the will to fight sincerely.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have caused so many affairs.”

”Why?” Edna asked from the heart, she never understood why Midnight suddenly shifted from wholehearted revenge to uniting the divine authority, something she was never truly interested in.

”Because of despair.” Midnight propped one hand on her thigh, pressing her chin on that hand, and looked ahead with bewildered eyes. ”Cyric is a very cunning person.

The Cyrine Scripture, with his personality, he definitely wouldn’t open it to look himself... Such a stupid mistake, even someone like Ambori wouldn’t make.

Yet he foolishly opened it himself!”

Midnight turned to look at Edna: ”Maybe, others, other deities, might really think it was an accident, but who of his old teammates would believe it?

Kranvo, with such a straightforward mind, wouldn’t!”

She spread her hands wide: ”I thought the world was in my arms, only to find myself a helpless moth struggling in someone else’s web.

And beside me, that mantis I once hated so much, the mantis that ate my comrades, apart from frantically flailing the two blades on its arms, damaging everyone who passes by, the majority of its body had long been tightly bound by the web.

At any moment, it could be strangled by a single thought from the web’s owner.

From that day on, I knew, that the rampant and reckless one outside was no longer the Cyric of old.

For his own power, the deities he devoured, the divine authority he suppressed, all turned into spider eggs injected into his body.

And now... haven’t the spider eggs hatched?

Have you seen Cyric from my memories? Despite his perpetual gloom, would he ever do something like leveraging a woman’s face to seduce Heim? 2222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222

Edna pondered and said: ”But, this is the result of his own greed!

As long as he maintains himself within allowable bounds...”

”But why should he!” Midnight widened her eyes, ferociously said, ”If after becoming a strong divine power, I can only frolic within circles drawn by others, then what am I?

Such fake strength, I don’t crave it!”

”What if you were only a Lesser God?” Edna asked lightly, ”Looking at everything outside, inherently powerless Lesser God?

Would you still be so irritable?”

”If I didn’t have power, I... would probably be like Kranvo?” Midnight said slowly after calming down, ”Even though they all say Kranvo has strong divine power, but... that power is fake, Kranvo’s true strength should only be said to be stronger than some Lower Rank Divine Power.

Jacob is the real Netherworld Master, Kranvo can only act according to his will, the strength of Styx doesn’t belong to him.

This... there’s nothing much to say about it.

Cyric, losing his reason in giving up Death Divinity, isn’t really as... shrewd as those outside say, and chose his most yearned Divine Realm... utter nonsense!

Is that something he can take if he wants or throw away if he pleases?

Even Milko couldn’t do it!

Bane struggled for so long, even pledging to AO’s embrace, wasn’t it because he wanted his own power?

I don’t believe you can’t tell that the Years of Turmoil were essentially those two ancient Undead sparring spells.”

Edna shook her head helplessly: ”Then why can’t you regard yourself as Kranvo, how are Jacob and AO different?”

”Perhaps it’s because the mindset is different?” Midnight suddenly laughed, ”Borrowed power and power belonging to oneself, I can still distinguish the two.

Isn’t Black Eye the same?

Finding her strength couldn’t be suppressed, bound to surpass strong divine power, she surely did something that turned her into a headless ghost.

AO only suppressed us with strength, didn’t have the absolute control over Styx like Jacob.”

She pursed her lips at Edna: ”With your mindset, probably can last longer than us.

Ah, definitely stronger than me.

Then... be stronger than Black Eye~

But, can you guarantee you’ll never want to be the true master of the world?

The Weave... the feeling of overlooking the world from the center, truly too enticing.”

Edna watched her, seriously began, ”But you, don’t you not want it? Mystree would rather dissipate, right?”

”Mystree truly loves everyone, whether kind or evil.” Midnight suddenly spoke, ”I can’t do it, I only like kind people.

My heart, my soul tells me, if even my nature has to change, then... it’s better never to meet again.”

Edna sighed: ”But I also don’t really want to be influenced by you! Sometimes, your surging emotions are truly... Clearly I’m a very stable person!”

”Are you kidding?” Midnight was dumbfounded, ”Your mind full of ghost ideas, always thinking of eating melon while watching drama, dare to say this about me?”
