Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 742: Chapter 541: Lynn Gets Scared

In the past two years in Toril, Hill’s heart was actually full of doubts, but here, he could find no one to answer them.

He knew many plots were going to unfold, but the question ’why?’ constantly lingered in his mind.

Although the Tablets of Fate were a good excuse, for some matters, as long as the outcomes were somewhat similar, there were many ways Hill could think of to avoid them.

The Tablets of Fate only contained a few dozen or even a few hundred words; the deities of Toril would definitely not be content to be mere puppets.

This wasn’t a novel or game background he had seen before; since it was reality, there must be reasons for many things.

Even if they seemed foolish, there must be some special reason.

What puzzled him the most was, ”I really don’t understand why Kelben dares to do this? Why is he so sure that Mystra will lend him a hand?

I’ve heard many versions, and it seems like the Tablets of Fate only confirmed his death.

But resurrection depended on Mystra’s mood, what if?

What if Mystra felt that bit of Silverfire wasn’t worth her great sacrifice?

And why is Mystra’s style of doing things so sloppy? What’s the rush?”

”The Goddess of Magic’s advisor has always been Azuth, the Guardian God of Mages.

But Azuth is very dissatisfied with the current Mystra insisting on staying in the Kind Alignment.

He thinks Mystra’s partiality will make many mages from the Neutral and even Evil Factions doubt the source of magic and the Weave.

This is very harmful to the Weave.

So Azuth has always opposed some of Mystra’s behaviors and stopped her from certain actions.

Mystra’s own considerations are very incomplete; she simply cannot understand how mages of the Neutral Faction think, let alone those of the Evil Faction.

Because of these issues, she has been warned by the Overgod AO many times.

Mystra is looking for a Subordinate God who will completely obey her yet understand those complex matters, not a Lesser God like Azuth who just ignores her if he says so.

Although Black Staff’s actions have offended many, she actually feels they are understandable.

Or perhaps, in her foolish mind, her idea of the Neutral Faction is like what Kelben is.

Azuth must be very angry now, probably does not even wish to leave the Divine Kingdom.

Actually, his relationship with the former Goddess of Magic was almost that of lovers.

Thus, he somewhat sees the new Mystra as his inexperienced daughter facing heavy and complex tasks, needing his guidance to perform her duties best.

However, others don’t think so; her plans for Kelben are a bit too obvious at this time.

Heh, she still thinks of herself as the Midnight Mage, not Mystra.”

Coron also liked the fruit wine Hill brewed himself, and while drinking, he chuckled and resolved Hill’s doubts.

Hill was stunned for a long time before he realized, no wonder since this year, the Deity of Mages, who had always been striving to mediate between mages, magicians, wizards, and the Goddess of Magic, had kept silent and stopped intervening in Mystra’s affairs.

The Chosen, no matter how powerful, their capabilities compared to deities and demigods are still far apart.

Mystra’s idea was not wrong in essence, building her own connections is an approach every leader would choose.

But compared to her slow yet effective succession to the position of the Goddess of Magic, her handling of divinity was somewhat too impatient.

Could it be because she was surrounded by those who missed the former Mystra, making it hard for her to bear?

Just like if the Archmage Elminster, secluded in Shadow Valley, would agree to help her, many things wouldn’t have been so difficult for her, yet he was simply unwilling to come forward for her.

If it’s said that he chose to remain silent out of loyalty to the first Goddess of Magic, Mystique, but for her predecessor, Elminster did not hesitate to assist.

It can only be said that she has not yet won the approval of these Chosen, except for Kelben, who is ambitious and eager to ascend to godhood.

The Seven Sisters of Elaströ seem to only obey the will of the gods, but have not actively done anything for this Goddess of Magic.

Hill nodded his head, finally understanding why Midnight, originally a mage, would suddenly become so foolish.

Even those of the Kind Alignment will not give up the power they hold.

Coron looked up and said, ”AO has come looking for me; I need to concentrate to deal with him, this guy has always been cunning.

You can start preparing for the arrival of the Undead Tribe; there’s definitely no problem there.

The Main Gods of the Gnomes and Dwarves will help me.

The Tablets of Fate are too biased towards humans.

They are actually a bit unwilling too.

Dear Hill, thank you for everything you’ve done for the Elves; this has made things much easier for me.”

He suddenly revealed a smile as radiant as spring flowers: ”The days of the Elves certainly need many changes, don’t they?”

”I only cherish their lives, not the power they wield.”

Although his words carried the aura of a ruler, his constant action of stowing away food and drink completely prevented Hill from feeling any respect.

As Coron vanished like a whirlwind before his eyes, Hill slowly sat down.

He needed to calm down.

”Sir, Mr. Lynn is here,” List inquired, ”Do you have enough reason to speak with him now? Moreover, he wanted to use the levitation disc, but found it was out of order.

Calls went unanswered and Marsha didn’t know what happened either.

Mr. Lynn was a bit anxious and rushed up the moment he found the levitation disc operational again.”

Leaning on his chin, Hill spoke somberly, ”The Undead Tribe will be here in seven days; how much longer can I keep the secret? Let him in!

He must have some urgent matters with me.”

”Hill,” Lynn entered briskly, concernedly scanning Hill, who sat low-spiritedly at his desk, ”What happened?”

”Coron was just here,” Hill stated plainly, ”He had some matters to discuss with me beforehand.”

Lynn stiffened.

He looked at his friend with disbelief.

Although he knew Hill held a high status, the direct communication with Coron was still somewhat unbelievable to Lynn.

After all, it had been a long time since Coron had responded to the calls of the elves.

Hill remained silent for a few minutes, then under Lynn’s stern gaze, he struggled to speak, ”I have a bit of Coron’s bloodline, so my relationship with him is still acceptable.

But don’t ask me where it came from, those things, even Coron probably doesn’t want to talk about.”

He quickened his speech, moving directly onto serious matters, ”Did you come here for something? You go first! Then I’ll arrange other things.

Don’t stand, sit! Coron was just sitting on the sofa beside you, you can feel it for yourself.”

Lynn rolled his eyes silently, bypassed the sofa Coron had sat on, and sat in a chair nearby, ”Hill, unlike you, I still hold a deep reverence for the deities.

You don’t need to explain, you showed no fear, but if it were me, the moment Coron appeared, I’d have to kneel on one knee.

I did hear that the elves of the Supreme Forest maintain close relations with the Father of Elves, but I come from Eternity Island, where traditions are stricter.”

Hill blinked, ”The elves of the Supreme Forest chat and gossip about the amusing tales of Coron.”

Lynn responded indifferently, ”So Eternity Island is doomed! They use their own reasoning to guess about deities, it’s normal to be abandoned.

Let’s not talk about those mood killers.

I’m here to inform you, at Mis Zhunuo, we still have two squads left, they were lucky, other than some of my cousins, they had no casualties.

They stayed to guard those ordinary elves who fought alongside the Crusaders and some bodies waiting to be claimed by their families.

Oste has already sent out the casualty lists to the major cities before he left, hoping their kin would come to retrieve them.

If there’s no news in half a month, I’ll probably have to use the magic ship again.

Outside the graveyard of the Crusaders, we will open another resting place for them.”

A hint of bitterness appeared on Lynn’s face, ”We originally planned to bury them in Mis Zhunuo, but since they can return to the embrace of the Elven Pantheon here, we definitely want to bring them back.

Hill, the last time this many elves died was during the Dawn Calamity.

The subsequent wars, though cruel, usually ended with elves just retreating injured, but not with so many deaths.”

Hill nodded, ”You handle these matters, Lynn.

Don’t be too heartbroken, for many elves, death is not too cruel a thing.”

Lynn’s expression remained impassive, ”If it weren’t for the blessings of the gods, Hill, it would be cruel. The Supreme Forest welcomes every elf back, but even Oste doesn’t dare guarantee safe passage.

Any elf can theoretically enter Eternity Island, but many choose not to return, preferring their souls to never find sanctuary, rather than go back.

If I died out there, I wouldn’t go back either.

Actually, the main reason I came up here was to thank you. If it weren’t for helping me, you wouldn’t need to get involved in many matters.

But...”

”It’s not much about Coron, Lynn, I’m here to help you,” Hill said decisively. ”Coron is fine, except he’s had many affairs, leaving a lot of trouble; I don’t see any benefits in being his descendant.”

Lynn looked hesitantly at Hill, uncertain about what he thought.

”Stop overthinking,” Hill sighed, ”Soon you’ll understand what’s going on. Agleya and I are originally from Teraxil, which harbors a group of very interesting adventurers from another world.

The deities of Toril have also dealt with them before, but that was in other worlds.

This time, Coron plans to bring them to Toril, and they’ll arrive in Agleya in seven days.”
