Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 722: Chapter 521: The Suddenly Arriving Prince of Neverwinter

Mayor Lynn was actually quite helpless.

In just a few days, Terry managed to get all the information out of him, and Lynn understood that Lord Hill wanted him to stay in Agleya Town.

But even with the promotion to mayor, it didn’t mean much to Lynn.

If he stayed in Quelva, he was certain that he could eventually become a high-ranking official in Silvermoon City, or even the Silvermoon Alliance.

Of all the elves, the gold elves value their honor the most and often speak of their ancestors’ glory—most of the antiques in humans’ impressions are actually gold elves.

Lynn never denied that he wanted to leave his mark in this world.

Why wouldn’t a gold elf with no ambitions leave after their travels and return to the forest?

The days in the forest were so leisurely and happy!

Those who stayed outside were, of course, the ones who were not content with stillness.

With Lord Hill, he could only be a mayor. Although he would have considerable power, his career direction would have to completely change.

Lynn wasn’t very keen on changing the path he had diligently followed for over 100 years.

So, although Lynn stayed there all that time, he always played dumb.

But to Lynn’s surprise, to keep him, Lord Hill brought so many people into a town that was not meant to be opened!

Lynn felt helpless. He had heard from Terry all of Lord Hill’s various town proposals, none of which included managing the town.

Although he thought the busy Lord Hill brought it upon himself, Lynn could no longer keep silent. Considering the long life of an elf, changing one’s career path was not so unacceptable after all.

Luckily, Miliel supported his decision and didn’t want Lynn to remain confined to the Small Temple.

The God of Singing never had much ambition; music and poetry were his true loves. He preferred hearing new songs over dealing with the troubles of a harpist.

Yet, the evil gods of the Ferun Great Land wouldn’t even leave him that pleasure.

Miliel actually quite approved of Lynn coming to Lord Hill’s place and even wanted him to learn some otherworldly music or poetry. An elf with a mage’s knowledge couldn’t possibly be ignorant of everything.

Although a little unclear as to why his Main God said it was to prepare for an unpredictable future, Lynn promptly made his decision and took over all of Agleya Town’s affairs from Lord Hill.

In just a few days, Lynn had everything running smoothly. His only reflection was that Marsha was really very efficient.

Agleya Town hardly had any human employees, even the shops were all self-service; aside from puppets patrolling the area, with combat levels all above 12, one couldn’t expect any warm service.

Even the stores that helped the new town residents on consignment were the same—all with clearly marked prices. If you liked something, you’d simply drop coins into the counter, and everything operated automatically.

This was the mage’s choice for convenience. Lynn shook his head, no, it had to be a rich mage with hardly any place to spend money who could do this.

He looked at the mansion named ’Mayor Lynn’s House,’ and couldn’t help but sigh.

As a bard, he could actually live in a house with a Tower Spirit!

The Tower Spirit, whom he named ’Simo,’ was currently following List to familiarize himself with the Alchemy Workshop’s production line.

The first time Lynn saw this assembly line that could even manufacture low-level oddities, he understood that the world from which Hill came had abundant resources, though it probably lacked manpower.

In Ferun, such an assembly line could be replaced by dozens of Mage Apprentices, and it would be cheaper to use over the course of hundreds of years than to make a set of such things.

This kind of device usually would only occur to a giant dragon, but they would never waste so many precious materials to create such low-level items.

Ferun wasn’t without such technologies, but they were seldom used to make low-level oddities, even less so everyday items.

Cost was the key issue.

Lynn frowned. Sometimes the way Hill and Agleya spoke of the past gave the impression that they had plenty of manpower, as if it was easy for them to find people to do anything.

He shook his head. At least for now, Lynn had no interest in traveling to other worlds.

He just wanted to know the interesting stories, delightful music, and poetry from Hill’s side.

Hill generously supplied Lynn with books and sheet music said to come from different worlds, two copies of each, setting up a grand library for Lynn.

But what Lynn preferred was the circular hall for singing performances, with an adjacent room filled with various musical instruments.

He didn’t know how this singing hall was built, but when he sang there, the sound was especially full.

Lynn thought it might be a good idea to invite some friends over for a visit. If he performed there a few times, he could raise his bard level by another level.

Lynn had already sent thousands of poems, novels, and scores to his Main God.

Before Miliel even took a look, Lynn’s priest level shot up by two levels.

Moreover, the God of Singing emphasized before he left that if he was very satisfied, he would definitely reward Lynn again.

It seems that he had been interested in Hill’s world for quite some time, but it was not appropriate for him to directly contact Hill without going through Tyr first.

Although Lynn had long known that priest levels depended entirely on Divine Grace, he was still a bit surprised by how easily he had been promoted, considering how arduously he had managed to level up his bard to level 10.

He needed to be careful not to let his priest level surpass his primary occupation, as it could easily shake his beliefs.

He looked at the books beside his hand, and for some reason, Hill emphasized that he must read them carefully himself, and also said that Miliel had already read them and didn’t need to hand them in; the content was very interesting.

Lynn was curious and glanced at the books a few times. He would have almost finished the tasks at hand tomorrow, and he was determined to take a good look at these books.

He felt that Hill had an odd smile when he said this, a bit like someone eager to watch a lively scene.

Hill stood on the terrace, looking down at the bustling crowd. After they had settled down, they started to arrange their own houses.

List said from the side, ”Simo is now very adept at directing the puppets and the Alchemy Workshop. He is currently assisting Marsha in managing the town’s residential affairs.

All the cores of the shops have also set him as a level 2 manager.

Following your instructions, Simo has isolated and sealed off the core sections related to the Undead Tribe. If the Undead really come, we can just release the seal then.”

”Sir, do you think that Coron will really bring the Undead Tribe to the Ferun Great Land?”

”With the Elven God King around, he couldn’t possibly be unaware of the trouble that the Undead Tribe brings!”

”Coron has never been part of the Orderly Camp,” Hill replied softly, ”His patience is not that great, and he won’t give Mystra much room to grow.”

He glanced at the Sword Mountain Range. ”And why should he be patient? He is a powerful divinity that has transcended countless universes! Now, he also has a very good assistant.”

Hill laughed helplessly. Just because the Dragon God, Eo, kept silent didn’t mean he was happy about this year.

The thunder since the beginning of summer seemed to carry more anger than during spring.

”Sir.” Marsha appeared in haste, ”King Aragonda of Neverwinter City has sent a messenger who wishes to see you.

It is strange—he came here quietly on his own. If it wasn’t for the Silver Shield’s deputy commander vouching for him, I wouldn’t even be sure of his identity.”

Hill raised his eyebrows with interest and nodded in agreement to meet.

The fact that King Aragonda was a devout follower of Tyr and that the paladin of the Silver Shield was willing to help him was not surprising.

But under the rule of King Aragonda, Neverwinter City was always stable and prosperous, and its residents were mostly craftsmen and gardeners. During the tumultuous decades behind Ferun, the city, known as the Pearl of the North, remained invulnerable.

Even with constant harassment and invasion by the pirates from Luskan, Neverwinter City never had any problems thanks to its powerful defenses.

Hill really couldn’t think of anything that would make the king send someone to find him secretly.

A young and handsome messenger, looking weather-beaten, followed Marsha into the study. The deputy commander did not follow, such an obvious avoidance of conflict made Hill even more curious.

”Honorable Lord Hill, good day. I am Ban Aragonda, I hope I haven’t disturbed you, but I have no choice but to seek your help.”

Hill was surprised and his eyes widened—this was the future king of Neverwinter City!

He couldn’t help but look at the lush brown-black hair: ”Please have a seat, Prince Ban.

What is it that you need my help with? If I can, I will certainly do my best.”

Ban gave a bitter smile; he had obviously noticed Hill’s gaze at his hair. The Mage Lord did not bother to conceal his observation about his volume of hair.

With his father, Nasir’s infamous name as the bald warrior, Ban had long gotten used to it.

”Two years ago, a disease known as the ’Wailing Death’ emerged in Neverwinter City,” Ban’s face grew pale. ”For the first time, Neverwinter City lost many people not due to war.

Our people have never feared death, but they absolutely do not wish to die meaninglessly.”

He couldn’t help but glance out the window at the main road, where a group of Luskanese dressed in leather was passing by: ”Although the mages of the ’Cloak of Stars’ told my father that since the disease created by the Arcane Brotherhood had been cracked, they wouldn’t waste time doing it again, my father still wanted to be fully prepared.

Even if the mages are willing to help my father, they are short-staffed.

The only advantage is that the attention of the Arcane Brotherhood in Luskan is not on Neverwinter City.”

Hill hesitated, ”What can I do to help you? I’m only one person, after all.”

As for the problem of manpower, it would be even less use going to him, no?

That specific Potion to counter the disease, Hill’s Alchemy Workshop couldn’t possibly manage it, could it?

Ban sat up straight, speaking earnestly, ”We hope to receive assistance from Goddess Agleya.”
