Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 298: Chapter 101 Outside the Light Gate, Stars Twinkle

Outside the Light Gate, there lies the starry sky.

In Hill’s opened eyes, all he could see was the black universe and the white stars.

It was an endless darkness sprinkled with specks of white light.

Only the violent nebulae twirled, their occasional flickers reflecting a deep blue luminescence.

After standing for what seemed like ages, the cosmos before Hill’s eyes slowly began to shimmer with flowing colors.

His soul power had finally surpassed the human limits, and he could directly perceive the true colors of the starry sky.

Multicolored stars formed various celestial maps.

Hill could see in the distant stars, the staircases formed by the nebulae, which seemed connected to longer stairways deep within the cosmos, suggesting to Hill that if one could reach there, a new world awaited.

But that was merely a beautiful illusion, the greatest falsehood of the starry sky.

The existence of other worlds deep in the starry space was indeed certain.

Yet, amidst this chaotic cosmos, not even the deities, nor the most powerful Legendary Mages, could find a path to that spiraling staircase.

For hundreds of thousands of years, the only known route to other worlds had been through the Elemental Realm.

And now, there was also the River of Time and Space.

Hill blinked his eyes, and he could clearly see the constellations, their unique yet bright patterns revealing the Divine Thrones of the deities of this world, the most direct manifestation of their presence.

But, at that moment, what Hill felt was the blazing red sun in front of him.

This enormous sphere generously showered light and heat without restraint.

The brightness illuminated Hill’s soul, driving away all darkness.

And that warmth also soothed his somewhat weary soul.

Hill silently experienced the eternal Life Light radiated by the sun. His life, in this spot closest to the sun, slowly doubled.

Such direct soul-shining light was a reward for the kind-hearted. If it had been an evil person standing in Hill’s place, their soul might have been burned to ashes.

If it were a human of the Kind Alignment, they could attain ten thousand years of life at this moment.

Hill knew that it couldn’t be just him, a Mage of the Kind Alignment, who had appeared here.

However, to become a Legendary Mage, one could not betray their own heart.

Even if they desired this reward greatly, most Mages would not dare stand so close to the sun.

Closer to Hill than the sun was the Divine Throne, made of spinning golden stars. If one gazed for long, they could perceive the shapes of various grains.

This was the Harvest Goddess.

Hill once thought She was the only Earth System deity in this world, but now, he suspected that this Goddess of Agriculture also had some connection with the sun.

Her golden hair, each strand representing the mature form of various plants,

was thus woven into Her Divine Throne.

In this world, She might be the only deity who stood in the Neutral Good alignment.

She believed humans were selfish, and if She had a Temple, She would definitely favor those who were more devout.

However, as the Goddess of Agriculture, influencing human survival, She did not want to act arbitrarily out of Her own likes and dislikes.

She only blessed those hardworking farmers with bountiful harvests,

and this only required a simple altar.

Her presence alone has told the other deities that staying away from the world of their worshippers would spare them from the influence of Faith Power.

Even if they ascended to godhood through faith, they could follow their own path without deviation.

The deeper the reliance on faith, the harder it becomes for a deity to maintain their self.

Should faith collapse, even the Divine Soul would be obliterated.

But deities have their own selfish desires, and most couldn’t give up their longing for greater power.

A bit further away lies the lengthy River of Time and Space.

Here, Hill could see more clearly,

countless stars, innumerable meteors, black holes, and nebulae, all dazzlingly beautiful beneath the illumination of a bright Main Star.

Hill realized that where he appeared was the foundation in the starry sky for those of the Kind Alignment who ascended to Legendary status. Being Neutral Good, he faced the sun, while next to him was the Divine Throne of the Goddess of Agriculture.

And the God of Time and Space, although standing in Neutral, leaned toward the Good side, which is why Hill felt it so closely.

Turning his head, he located the moon’s position; drawing a breath, Hill understood that it was far away on the side of Kind Alignment, a realm of Chaotic Good. A giant silver wolf sat quietly beside the silver celestial body.

That’s why the Silvermoon is rarely worshipped, isn’t it? The real reason is chaos, right?

He looked at the constellations of other deities in the distance, only the God of Knowledge and the God of Justice in the middle of the Neutral Faction.

Strangely, the Divine Thrones of the elves and dwarves felt to Hill as if, even though Neutral, they were very close to chaos.

Those not on the side of chaos were practically standing on the line of evil.

It felt as if he could reach out and touch the dwarves and the God of Smithing.

Hill looked curiously in that direction, wondering how the elves’ actions could be considered so evil.

Then he sensed the world and nature’s hatred towards them.

Whether or not they had taken action, the deeds of the elves and dwarves had harmed this world.

As Merkel had said, when the World Will awoke, the elves and dwarves were already in existence.

It did not immediately regard these two races as a cancer upon the world.

But these two races did not take the World Will’s tolerance seriously. Instead, they continued to deplete the world’s essence and even carelessly introduced the power of the Abyss.

Indeed, the Abyss had long since set its sights on this world, but it was kept outside the World Membrane.

With the Abyss’s power, it might take tens of thousands of years for the evil emanating from human hearts to aid the Abyss in opening the World Gate.

Yet while the world was still pure, just to prevent the resurrection of the Goddess of the Earth and the Goddess of the Silvermoon, the elves and dwarves lured the foolish Goddess of the Spring and carelessly opened the Abyssal Gate.

The Spring truly met the fate she deserved, but the World Will seemed to be slowly settling its scores with the elves and dwarves as well.

Hill did not know what final fate awaited these two races, but he had a feeling that these elves and dwarves would sooner or later be expelled from this world.

This was the true reason the World Will allowed the God of Time and Space to summon players.

Compared to the immediate threat of the elves and dwarves and the outstretched evil hand of the Abyss, the players, who were merely soul projections, were a burden the World Will considered bearable, no matter what chaos they might create.

Standing here, Hill could feel that both the golden sun and silvery moon were wounded, but those scars were slowly healing. Perhaps in not too many years, the sun and moon, once repaired, would awaken their slumbering Main Gods.

Hill sighed softly, perhaps it was because they were about to awaken that the World Will dared to deal with the elves and dwarves.

Hill lowered his head and looked at the four threads in his hand, each slowly splitting into many thin lines.

Most of these thin lines flew deep into the nebula, fluttering before Hill, telling him that the same laws existed in the depths of the starry sky. Even if Hill left his own world, as long as the threads in his hands could connect to the laws of another world, he would still be a powerful legendary warlock there.

But Earth, Wood, Water—three thin lines extended towards the same direction, towards that spinning Light Gate, which should be the location of the Elemental Realm, very close to where Hill stood.

The current Hill could just walk in. The thin lines would ensure that he wouldn’t get lost in the Elemental Realm.

No matter how far he walked, he would always find his way back.

Hill now understood why those Legendary Mages who had left had either perished or did not wish to return to this world.

Another thread, belonging to the Wind Series, along with the black Line of Destiny on Hill’s body, connected behind him.

The Wind Element of this world had not yet returned to the Elemental Realm. This thread pointed in the direction of Hill Valley.

Although it was only his soul that resided here, Hill still felt the urge to hold his breath. He slowly turned around to look back at where he came from.

Within the colorful glow of the World Membrane, lay a huge planet missing a small piece.

But the first thing Hill saw was the great tree propping up this world.

The World Tree showed itself to Hill for just a moment before it disappeared.

Then what Hill could see was the other side of the continent, full of holes and utterly ragged.

This was a shattered planet with only its upper half remaining.

The Goddess of the Earth, before her slumber, used her Divine Artifact, the World Tree, to uphold the entire world.

Perhaps because Hill had touched one of its branches, the World Tree allowed him a glimpse of its existence; Hill almost felt a greeting of ”hello.”

Hill, who almost suffocated at the sight, quickly discovered that the core of the planet was very well protected.

It was still growing.

But it was so large that tens of thousands of years had passed, the damaged sun and moon were about to heal, and yet this huge planet was still missing a little half.

Maybe it would take tens of thousands more years for this world to become whole again.

This was a broken world, one that even the Abyss would not bother expending too much effort on.

Thus, the Legendary Mages who had left seldom came back.

Therefore, it was difficult for the deities to align with the Kind Faction. A sense of crisis made every deity desperately strengthen itself.

Even before reaching the starry sky, they had love for the world, but upon seeing this dreadful outcome, their hearts could only consider their survival.

No deity wanted to perish alongside the world.

They knew the world was repairing itself, but they always prepared for the worst.

So the deities of this world all acted selfishly, and their demands for faith were either based on exploitation or just needed general believers.

Hill stared blankly at the planet.

Why did no one venture into the wilderness, where even deities fell?

Hill understood when he looked at the frayed edges of the planet, where the chaotic laws formed turbulent streams.

Unless one was born and raised in the wild, accustomed to that chaos, a deity would lose control over the laws upon entering.

And the demi-gods who grew up in those conditions were naturally incomparably strong.

Perhaps it was because its Core had finally properly repaired itself thousands of years ago that the World Will managed to stop these deities from entering.

The world was saving itself.
