Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 254: Chapter 62: The Undercurrents Between Legends

Even though Fran could feel Miller’s Legend’s displeasure, he remained very calm and showed no sign of anger; he even smiled as he spoke, ”I really didn’t expect that in such a short time, Master Fran would already become legendary. Truly remarkable!”

”It’s just a pity that he wasn’t given enough attention during his Archmage period,” The Legend of Carl chimed in. ”Now, the people over at Obastian are all full of regrets, wishing they had treated Master Fran a little better back then.”

Fran’s expression was cold: ”Indeed, my Archmage period was overly long. Even becoming a Magister isn’t anything particularly noteworthy.

After all, for a mage with decent talent, as long as one doesn’t owe any debt to the world and works diligently, becoming legendary is just a matter of time.

Someone as ordinary as me truly isn’t worthy of any special treatment.”

Hill felt that the expressions of those listening to this conversation nearby were all rather unsightly.

So, those who haven’t become legendary either owe the world or are just lazy good-for-nothings.

Were these two legends intentionally provoking Fran’s hostility towards the Saral Royal Family?

They were actually thinking too much; how could Fran possibly give up his current freedom to compete with them for the favor of deities?

Miller nonchalantly steered the conversation back: ”Even upon becoming legendary, one must be careful not to get entangled in trivial matters.

Otherwise, the longer it goes on, the more it feels like a tangled mess that one can’t extricate oneself from.” Fran looked at him with a half-smile and slowly began to speak: ”I ascended to legendary through Alchemical Law. I only follow one principle, which is equivalent exchange. Whatever is given must be reciprocated in kind.”

”Of course,” he added, glancing at Carl, ”it’s also because I don’t have to worry about the younger generation that I can speak so casually.”

His only disciple, Adrian, his only kin, Hill, both had become Magisters and were now obediently standing behind him.

Fran certainly had the right to speak so confidently. The expression on The Legend of Carl’s face darkened instantly.

Miller smiled carelessly: ”Yes, a legend who just ascended certainly has the right to speak boldly.

As one of the more unsuccessful kinds, I can only wish that Master Fran does not gradually forget this sharpness as time slowly passes.”

Hill slightly lifted his eyes to look at Hensley’s mentor.

Miller’s Legend and his disciple were alike; as long as they obtained their benefits, they had no concern for dignity or reputation. A few criticized words couldn’t affect his mood.

Such people may seem well-connected, but eventually, everyone will keep their distance.

Therefore, although Miller’s Legend has a decent reputation, in the end, he could only struggle over a rough path together with the likes of Carl, who made enemies everywhere.

They knew well that the recently ascended Fran would not give himself over to deities, but still they came to Fran for reassurance, just in case.

Although Fran didn’t show them any good grace, he had after all made clear his disinterest in that path.

So, the atmosphere here obviously eased.

The Legend of Carl glanced at the two standing behind Fran and called over a few younger mages.

”Let the young ones interact on their own! What’s the point of them being with us?”

Looking at these mages, Hill and Adrian exchanged glances: At their highest, only Archmages, they really had no business to entertain Adrian and Hill.

What was The Legend of Carl thinking?

Fran frowned and glanced at them: ”They need to hear the experiences of legends right now.”

He turned his head to the Mage Association’s Saral branch president, who had been stewing silently to the side, and called out, ”Gerant! Come over, take a few young ones to chat with that envoy from the Mage Association.”

Branch President Gerant Lebrun glanced at the handsome and beautiful young mages by Carl’s side, his eyes nearly lighting up visibly: ”No problem.”

The Legend of Carl smiled and nodded, allowing the juniors to follow Gerant.

Actually, Adrian had already arranged for mages of various levels to entertain guests of corresponding levels in the great hall.

But at this moment, he also had to leave.

He had to stick close to these people, lest they cause any trouble.

Adrian respectfully bade farewell to the two legends, gave Hill another look to signal him not to wander off, then called over a puppet holding drinks. Adrian then called Boen over and led him towards the group.

Miller’s Legend glanced at the motionless Hill and couldn’t help saying to Fran, ”You’re being too protective of this child, aren’t you? It’s not like the elves are going to eat him.”

Fran was indifferent: ”Why should I offer them a chance when I know they’re coming to cause trouble?

Even using the same person who just tested His Majesty the King to probe Hill, I really don’t think it’s necessary to give them any face.”

Carl and Miller laughed together.

Legendary mages seemingly know more and don’t have a very good opinion of elves.

There were hardly any people left listening to their conversation nearby.

Miller looked at Carl: ”Are you planning to mix the younger generation with elven blood?”

Carl glanced at Fran and replied rather calmly: ”I know that you actually feel it’s regrettable that Polanio is a Magician.”

”I’ve also seen some of his Alchemy Products; if he weren’t a Nature System Magician, his achievements in that field would definitely be higher, it’s normal you would think that way.”
