Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 285: Chapter 88 Chaos Actually Affected Hill

Adrian sighed softly. Hill was about to become legendary, while he himself hadn’t even touched the edge of it.

Although Hill was a Nature Warlock and advanced faster, achieving legendary status wasn’t something that could be reached purely by instinct.

Even though Hill seemed gentle, he was, in reality, a person with strong inner resolve.

Adrian now realized that Hill valued his boundaries highly. He seemed to act freely and preferred to avoid trouble, but those things had never truly touched Hill’s heart.

Hill’s true firmness lay in his choice of life’s path.

He did not want to get involved between Fran and Adrian, so no matter how tempting something was, if it might cause doubt about Adrian’s status, Hill would not participate.

Just like this time with the Royal Palace renovation, Hill, who clearly had nothing to do, refused to take a single step in.

Over the past few days, Adrian had also noticed that if he worked on the same tasks with Hill, his status in the eyes of the nobles would not be as high as it was now.

Things wouldn’t be as easy either.

In the eyes of the nobles, bloodline still meant a bit more.

No matter how much he trusted Hill, encountering those embarrassing comments where others would rather listen to Hill and consider him Fran’s true heir, Adrian could not guarantee he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.

Hill had foreseen this early on. To ease his mind, Hill had even come back to spend time with him, showing their inseparable relationship in front of the mages in the Magic Tower.

Thus, Adrian had always felt uneasy. If it weren’t for him, Hill wouldn’t have been so unlucky.

And Hill had no hesitation dealing with the Undead Tribe. He even built a cathedral and dared to open a Teleportation Array.

To this day, in private territories, only Hill’s Space-Time Cathedral and Teleportation Array existed.

Adrian had to admit that Fran and he had actually benefited from it to some extent.

However, for most mages and nobles, dealing with a Neutral Good Alignment God of Time and Space was a troublesome matter.

As a ruler of a territory or a mage interested in researching various things, one couldn’t confidently say they’d always maintain a Neutral Good Alignment.

Many people wanted to open Teleportation Arrays like Hill’s, didn’t they? The Undead Tribe had so much money! Ordinary people in the Royal Family’s cities lived well because of it.

Most nobles’ territories lacked special products to attract the Undead Tribe’s shopping trips, only Teleportation Arrays could draw some tourists from the Undead Tribe.

But they just didn’t dare.

How many people could be as certain as Hill that their faction would never change?

Moreover, Hill never left room for socializing with people he didn’t like.

If it were Adrian, he wouldn’t refuse a beautiful admirer decisively.

Although he wouldn’t marry a woman he didn’t like, if someone just wanted to talk and express affection, Adrian didn’t think he would reject it so firmly.

These things sounded simple, but it wasn’t just inner resolve that could accomplish them.

Many people wanted to do it but couldn’t be so uninhibited. Ultimately, it boiled down to desire, an inability to suppress the greed within human nature.

Adrian sat on the sofa and sighed again.

That’s why Hill could become legendary while he didn’t even know where the door was, let alone step through it and walk the path.

Going forward, he really needed to think about his future path!

Hill had no idea Adrian held him in such high regard; his inner self wasn’t that lofty at all.

Compared to Adrian, who worried too much, Hill was still imbued with that unconventional era’s whimsy that bred caprice.

He hated trouble, was lazy about managing affairs, and did whatever he wanted.

Additionally, his family ingrained the concept of gender equality deeply in his mind.

His dad was a minor official; his mom was a strong woman. She always made him feel that women were highly admirable.

Even though his mom often complained that an older son was useless, she didn’t want him to marry someone he didn’t love just to get by.

It wasn’t that Hill had no suitors. With his well-off family and good looks, he did. But his nature was somewhat innocent, pampered by his family to be youthful, with little interest in dating. Given the choice, he would rather play video games.

So the suitors he liked the least were those ladies with a strong self-awareness, bringing a lot of shadows to his college life.

He always felt that his preference for skyscrapers and bridges was entirely their fault.

Thus, Hill had a very firm concept of love: ”If you love me, do I have to yield to you?”

If he didn’t love them, he wouldn’t give anyone he disliked any chance to push boundaries; that would only bring trouble.

Nevertheless, the trouble Hill hated most always found him diligently.

Hill lounged askew at his desk; he really did not want to deal with the mess in front of him.

”The villagers who went out with Olivia are all dead.” List also thought this woman had gone mad, ”Olivia wanted to climb up and handed them over to Obastian’s Saral Royal Family members as guards.”

”Why did she go to Obastian? And she must know that those Saral Royal Family members would have no impact on His Majesty the King or the Church, right?”

”She chose Obastian herself when she reported to the Temple of Time and Space in Kexlote. The influence of the Space-Time Church was lowest there, and they happened to need priests for the large cathedral, which many priests were reluctant to go to.

Thus, only the church there in Saral’s big city always had vacancies.

The Royal Family members of Saral, after the last rebellion, were willing to frequent the Space-Time Church to demonstrate their innocence.

Sir, the Space-Time Church never prohibits its priests from marrying.”

Hill, with a headache, understood List’s implication.

He had always thought Olivia was seeking career success, but he didn’t realize if she encountered a better opportunity, she wouldn’t mind getting married.

She previously just didn’t want to become a pawn for her parents and family, being married off to some man she couldn’t stand.

However, if becoming a Saral was possible, her career ambitions could be temporarily set aside.

Olivia did not mind being the woman behind a successful man.

Since William showed no interest in marriage or having children, Saral Royal Family members were quite excited, constantly trying to earn William’s favor.

So marrying a priest of the God of Time and Space was indeed a good choice. Olivia, coming from a prestigious noble family, was fully qualified.

So what about Olivia?

Did she think she might become the future Queen Mother of Saral?

”If those villagers followed Olivia out, they should have been mentally prepared for death.” Hill mused, ”But Olivia owes me an explanation. I don’t mind that people I’ve invested heavily in are protecting a Space-Time Church priest. But definitely not other nobles. Royal Family members of Saral do not hold such a high position in my eyes.

Especially when those knights from my realm, who are supposed to be of the Neutral Good Alignment, turned into Evil Alignment by oppressing citizens and were executed in such a short time?

Commission the Undead Tribe for a task! I need the truth about this matter!

They may have been ambitious and somewhat foolish, but they didn’t deserve to die in vain!

Hill stood up, looking at the sky outside, finding it hard to believe Olivia had turned so vicious so quickly when she was merely an ambitious girl!

”Send the Undead Tribe to investigate! Why did Olivia suddenly change! Ambition does not equate to evil! Even if she wanted to marry, she wouldn’t be foolish enough to exhaust her only remaining power!

If Olivia was controlled by someone, have the Undead Tribe rescue her and send her to Kexlote’s temple.”

After thinking for a while, Hill still believed Olivia wouldn’t change so quickly.

He knew Olivia was skilled in manipulation, adept at using people, but that was a tactic noblewomen learned from a young age.

She wasn’t the type who would foolishly sacrifice her subordinates’ lives.

Hill used to just dislike her causing trouble in his territory, but the knights’ ambition couldn’t be triggered by Olivia in just a few words; they had long harbored that intent, which was why they cooperated so well with Olivia.

If those male villagers hadn’t abandoned their wives, Hill wouldn’t have been so ruthless.

Hill never looked down on those who strived to climb up.

As long as they didn’t resort to unscrupulous means or harm others, having ambition wasn’t a bad thing.

Those who looked down on people climbing from the bottom were usually spoiled brats who didn’t need to inherit the family business.

Hill didn’t know what had happened in Obastian, but he didn’t plan to ignore it; he needed to know the truth.

There wasn’t anything he needed to do; just issuing the task to the Undead Tribe would suffice.

Those folks in Obastian would be in trouble if they didn’t cover their tracks, as the Undead Tribe would root it out!

List went out to arrange the task for the Undead Tribe.

Now in Hill’s territory, countless mages came daily to make money.

The Undead Tribe spent money lavishly and earned vigorously.

Hill was never worried about List not finding takers for the tasks assigned.

List issued bounty tasks that anyone could take; he only cared about the final result.

The faster someone completed the task, the greater the reward they received.

Those coming later could only supplement additional clues.

Once all the details were pieced together, the task would no longer offer any reward.

The Undead Tribe loved such tasks; more people participated in these than those with fixed rewards.

Hill stood up, gazing at the beautiful valley. Although he increasingly disliked the trouble these people brought, he absolutely couldn’t distance himself from the human world.

In the past, Hill had to struggle against the Earth Bear’s bloodline. He was very vigilant, and thus, he smoothly arrived at this point, without losing his human reason upon becoming legendary.

However, he tended to overlook the mental troubles brought by natural awareness.

He now needed to observe the human world more, so he wouldn’t live as if he were a Spirit of Nature instead of Nature’s Darling.
