Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 282: Chapter 85 The King who Lives in the Trees

Hill did not know how the Goddess of the Silvermoon would treat this clan after she fully awakened.

He truly was not sure whether the Goddess could forgive the Moon Elves.

After all, the Goddess of the Hunt had done so many foolish things and then let Hill, a Nature Warlock, nurture this Moon Tree.

When the Goddess of the Silvermoon’s consciousness blessed Hill, the seed had already entered the oak; perhaps it was not detected because of that?

Hill really did not understand how the Goddess of the Hunt could have virtually no faith in the Moon Goddess.

Looking at the loyalty of the Wolf Tribe, it would be all too normal for Silvermoon to abandon the Moon Elves.

Hill had not planned on asking for any help; the Moon Elves could only wait for their destiny!

Hill’s mind was filled with myriad thoughts; however, he had been under so much strain lately that once he finally lay down in his familiar bed, despite wanting to ponder more matters, he slowly drifted off to sleep.

He slept soundly and deeply, and when he opened his eyes, it was the sunrise of the next day.

Hill sat by the window basking in the warm sunlight as he ate his breakfast.

Ever since he became sure the Three Gods had not perished but were merely slumbering—not an altogether unresponsive slumber—Hill knew that many of the World Will’s actions were likely tied to the complete awakening of the Three Gods.

The earth had not collapsed, which meant that these three deities were still alive and well.

This statement seemed simple, but its implications were profound.

If this world exists based on the power of the Three Gods, then the Dwarves and Elves eyeing those two divine systems were definitely not for survival in this world.

The world would accept fugitives, but it would not tolerate invaders.

The blow Rose gave to William at that time, though revealing she was always watching this world and that the gaze of the Abyss never left, also suggested that those who truly coveted this world might be foreign deities.

For instance, the Elven God King Coron.

In the Dwarf Deity System, the Neutral Evil Faction was even more abundant.

Coron might simply be acting opportunistically, seeking a world for his bastards to conquer; the motives of the Dwarf Deity System were not so clear-cut.

Hill could not figure out who was behind it.

But at the very least, he could be certain that when they came to this world, they entered it in the guise of fleeing for their lives.

And at that time, the Three Gods were already slumbering.

It was the Moon Elves, the only ones left in the world, who generously accepted these outsiders.

Back then, the Human race might have just been born, still in a primitive tribal stage.

And now, after hundreds of thousands of years, the pure Moon Elves had been extinguished.

Humans were also the weakest of the three races; if it were not for the God of Time and Space summoning the Undead Tribe, humans would only have served as fodder for Demons relying on the God of Nobility.

Even if they had survived, it would have been a mere existence under the protection of the deities, clinging to life.

Under the rule of Demons, struggling humanity could only kneel and beg for a shred of mercy from the deities; what would become of human nature?

In the end, all human gods might become Great Demon Lords.

Elves and Dwarves would hardly care what this world turned into.

After grabbing their divinities, were they just waiting for the world to break apart and then leave for their own world?

Chilled by this thought, Hill felt a shiver, even in the sunlight.

Could it be that the World Will foresaw this terrible future and summoned the Undead Tribe as a last resort for salvation?

Did those Legendary Mages also sense the end of the world, which is why they were leaving in droves?

Even those who had not left, like the reclusive Legendary Mages of the Mages Association, did not express any objections to the appearance of the Undead Tribe.

Hill shook his head, casting off the disquieting thoughts.

Inside the Mages Association, there were probably those who wished to pledge allegiance to Elves to survive, but they did not dare to openly show it, so they had appointed that envoy.

William likely had known the truth of these events for a long time and did not need to slowly guess as Hill had to, which was why he was so discourteous to the Goddess of the Hunt.

Otherwise, given William’s character, he should not have spoken so rudely to a lady; he truly disliked the Goddess of the Hunt.

That’s why his apology was merely for having spoken too harshly, rather than for the content of his words.

And the Mages Association, with that envoy who was madly in love with the Elf Princess, William responded to his impudence by either ignoring him or sending him away, without any grievance against the whole Mages Association.

It was probably because he understood that there was something amiss within the Mages Association.

William neither paid attention to Dwarves nor showed interest in communicating with Elves; as a qualified King, he should not have adopted such an indifferent attitude of neither talking nor discussing matters.

Hill did not know what the future of humanity would be.

He had thought about it for a long time and understood why the God of Time and Space never struck down the God of Nobility fatally. Why the Silver Wolf was released at this time and was tacitly agreed to by Time.

As a deity of humans, the God of Nobility’s methods might be evil, but his goals were quite clear.

How could such a powerful Beast Kingdom appear near humans?

If he was willing to let the Wolf God ascend to the starry sky, then that would be really surprising!

The Dwarves and Elves might have done it to prevent the Goddess of the Earth and the Goddess of the Silvermoon from awakening, but the God of Nobility just wanted to kill the Wolf God.

With so many demigods among the magical beasts, the God of Nobility must have been struggling to cope already.

He couldn’t possibly be unaware of the problems with the God of Craftsmen. So many things, he had to deal with himself.

So even if his throne was sliding towards evil, he didn’t hide behind the veil with those few others. They weren’t accomplices, but had once cooperated for a common goal.

The Divine Kingdom of the God of Nobility was already on the brink of collapse, which was why he was also swept down by the World Will, he was never the main target of the World Will’s attack. Moreover, for the God of Nobility who was already on the continent, it was just a matter of an earlier slumber.

Just like the Goddess of Love, who meddled in many matters, had nothing happen to her except her Divine Kingdom shrinking a bit.

The Goddess of the Hunt is a fool! She actually believed the God of Nobility truly fancied the Lord of the Moon Elves!

The Lord of the Moon Elves himself probably didn’t believe it!

Why was it so easy for the Silvermoon Wolf God to ascend to the starry sky without any deity intervening, with the human deities just watching? Hill kind of understood: having several Beast Gods wasn’t bad, but they couldn’t be the only one.

Just like the ancestors of Merkel, deep inside they also harbored dissatisfaction with the Wolf God of the Moon Goddess’s line, but if that one became the only Divine King, they would definitely obey the orders.

Hill didn’t know whether the God of Nobility was aware or not that the opposing method Spring Water wanted to use was summoning demons. As Spring Water’s accomplice, it was inevitable he got dragged in.

He probably didn’t know, but he had to accept the outcome. Letting himself gradually slide towards evil until even his mind was muddled, his actions lacked logic.

Many things, Hill could only understand them after the fact. If he was to make judgments, there would definitely be many mistakes. Hill was now grateful that he had handed over all kinds of materials to William at that time.

At that time, William did indeed place more responsibility on Spring Water.

The God of Nobility had his share of responsibility, but he was just an instigator, when others cursed, they could only say he was evil.

Hill sighed lightly, he couldn’t contemplate too much on the affairs between deities. The big shot of Time squatting in mid-air most certainly thought things through more than he did.

For him, the most important thing now was to advance to Legendary. Hill planned to use a year’s time to construct another Wind Spell. Hill still hoped his Magic Ring would be more balanced.

He just hoped that this year, the world could pass peacefully.

No matter how tumultuous Hill’s life had been, the actual impact on the Saral Country wasn’t significant.

Perhaps because the soul he merged with was unique, hence his days, the troubles always exceeded Hill’s own capabilities.

That was something the Citizens of Saral could never touch.

So no matter how melancholy Hill’s life was, no one but Fran and Adrian would take notice of him.

People still pay more attention to the matters at hand, deities are not in the concern of the ordinary folk.

For the whole of Saral, Hill’s existence was actually not that important, what was important was now this person, sitting on the throne in a great thunderous rage.

If Hill saw it, he’d probably understand William a little better.

After all, he really was a King who lived in a tree.

William did not choose to live in the Temple of Time and Space. When he was still the King of Saral, he did not want to move the center of governance into the Temple.

Once the Gingko Tree became a Treant, it could move freely within the Royal Palace.

William saw the potential in this, and after using a few Alchemy Huts to house various government departments, he placed a small hut on the mighty Gingko Tree and secured it firmly onto its branches.

William who lived in this hut also placed a throne on a lower branch and had the Gingko carry him around, rushing to various departments every day.

Adrian stood in the corner of the courtyard, offering a tear of sympathy for these officials.

It’s one thing to know your King has omnipresence and can see everything.

It’s quite another when your King strolls over in his free time, stands outside your window, and peeks inside.

One can at least relax a bit, as long as you don’t do anything improper, no one thinks the King will watch you yawning or farting.

But now, if you’re doing just that and the King happens to pass by, you really want to sever all ties with society.

The feeling of social death is something no one wants to experience.

Even Adrian felt that when he discussed the prices of alchemical materials with the officials of the finance department, there was a sense of utter despondency on their faces.

Moreover, in the past, only the high-ranking officials and Royal Ministers faced the wrath of the King.

This was the first time everyone could directly see the King seated on the throne, consumed with anger.

Adrian had already seen someone faint in the neighboring hut.

An almost demigod-like figure, with the fury and the terrifying pressure, was enough to frighten these low-level professionals.
